When to visit Austria
Our recommendation
We recommend visiting Austria in the springtime (from March to May). During this time the weather is pleasant, with perfect conditions for nature walks and city excursions. There also tends to be fewer crowds than summertime and blossoming scenery that you don’t get in autumn or winter. Though there is no real ‘bad’ time to visit Austria, we think spring is the best time to take a tour.

Austria is known for its magical Christmas Markets, if you want to experience the festive joy for yourself it’s best to visit between mid November until the end of December to visit the markets.

If you’re visiting during the winter it’s advised to bring warm clothes, layers and sturdy footwear.

The comfortable weather and blossoming foliage make this the perfect time to explore the lakes and mountains. It is also a great time to explore cities like Vienna with fewer crowds and pleasant weather.

Austria’s summers have warm days and cool nights with plenty of sunshine perfect for touring the country. Temperatures tend to sit around 77 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer making for pleasant days. The warm weather is great for hiking or taking boat rides along Austria’s beautiful lakes.
