Frequently asked questions
What is the average age of your travellers?
Our average passenger age is in the 40s bracket, though group trips attract a wide age range from those in their 20s to those in their 70s! It’s likely you’ll be travelling with those of a similar age to you, with others of different generations to add a little spice to the group demographic.
What is the average group size of the tours?
On most group trips, the average group size is between 16 and 18 passengers with a mix of nationalities and ages. Group size does vary between destinations and across departure dates, so you may find yourself travelling in a group as small as 4–6 passengers or in a group of up to 28 on popular festival departures.
How fit do I have to be to join one of the tours?
Many trips include days when you’ll be actively exploring, visiting local sites on foot and using a mix of transportation to get from place to place, whether that’s a tuk-tuk or a modern van. This is balanced with enough free time to take things at a gentler pace, so only a moderate level of fitness is generally required.
For more active itineraries, such as trekking holidays, a higher level of fitness is needed to manage longer walking days and higher altitudes. It’s advisable to consult your doctor before booking. If you’re concerned about the pace of group travel, a tailor-made itinerary may be a better option, giving you full control over how fast or slow you want to go.
Will I have to pay more as a solo traveller?
Many group trips offer a competitively priced single-room option for solo travellers. In some destinations — including Africa, Iceland, Morocco, Central and South America, Greenland and Antarctica — room sharing or private rooms may be available at no extra cost. Travellers who prefer their own space can usually choose a private room, and on certain tours and departure dates, this may even be offered without additional charges.
What sort of accommodation is included on your trips?
Group trips typically use well-located 3–4* hotels, with occasional 5* properties in destinations where accommodation offers excellent value. To make each journey distinctive, itineraries often combine modern hotels with heritage stays, such as havelis in India or riads in Morocco. In some regions, travellers may spend the night in unique settings like floating lodges in the jungle or courtyard mansions in colonial cities, all selected for comfort and essential amenities.
In destinations where the natural environment is the highlight, accommodation may be simpler. Permanent desert camps in places such as the Sahara or Wadi Rum are good examples, offering an authentic stay close to the landscapes being explored.
I don't want to travel in a group, do you offer Private tours?
Yes — private travel is available. If the existing group itineraries suit your plans but you’d prefer to travel independently, a private tour option can be arranged. This typically includes private transportation and the dedicated services of local English-speaking guides.
I'd like to organise a trip with my own group of friends and family. Is this possible?
Absolutely. Private tours can be arranged for large groups in most destinations, and itineraries can be tailored to suit the needs of your travelling party. There are no minimum or maximum group sizes, making this a flexible option for groups of any number.
