Backstreets of Istanbul

Embark on a journey through the backstreets of Istanbul, exploring its historic landmarks, colorful districts, and hidden gems on this immersive full-day city tour!

Your day begins at 9:00 AM when your friendly local guide meets you at the hotel for a short briefing. From here, we head to Suleymaniye Mosque, an exquisite blend of Islamic and Byzantine architecture overlooking the Golden Horn estuary.

Next, enjoy a coffee break at Pierre Loti Hill, soaking in panoramic views of the city. After a short break, we explore the Fener–Balat districts, once home to Muslim, Christian, and Jewish communities. Discover traces of all three cultures as you wander through some of the area’s lesser-known monuments and hidden buildings.

Following a lunch break (own expense), we cross the Golden Horn Bridge to begin a walking tour of old Taksim. Starting on Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), a bustling hub of activity any time of day or night, we weave through the backstreets - an often-overlooked route dotted with historic buildings, crumbling churches, hip cafés, trendy restaurants, and lively market stalls. This vibrant area is one of the city’s most colorful districts.

Continuing downhill, we arrive at Karaköy, cross the Unkapani Bridge, and make our way to the Egyptian Spice Market. Here, enjoy free time to sample or purchase Turkish delights, baklava, dried fruits, nuts, or salted fish, or simply grab a fresh simit (breadstick toasted with sesame seeds) and soak up the bustling atmosphere.

The tour concludes here, and we return to your hotel at around 5:00 PM, leaving you with a rich taste of Istanbul’s history, culture, and flavors.

Please note: Flights must arrive in Istanbul before 5:00 AM on Day 1 to join this tour. We strongly recommend arranging pre-tour accommodation.
