Day 1 - Istanbul
Upon arriving in Istanbul, we'll ensure a smooth transfer to your hotel, allowing you the rest of the day to unwind and soak in the city's unique atmosphere. As you settle in, feel free to explore at your own pace or simply relax and take in the vibrant surroundings. Later in the afternoon, information regarding the beginning of our tour will be conveniently posted on the boards at the hotel reception. This will give you an overview of the exciting adventures that await us. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Istanbul
On our second day in Istanbul, a day of exploration awaits as we dive into the city's rich history and vibrant atmosphere. We will start with a visit to the impressive Sleymaniye Mosque, the largest mosque in Istanbul, reflecting the grandeur of Ottoman architecture. Our journey will also take us to see the ancient city walls and the vibrant Golden Horn, where the lively fishing district thrives. A highlight of our day, we will stand in awe of the iconic exterior of Hagia Sophia.Our itinerary includes a visit to the Topkapi Palace, a significant historical site that once served as the centre of administration for the Ottoman Empire. As we wander through its magnificent courtyards and pavilions, you'll gain insight into its storied past.The afternoon offers you free time to wander and soak up the unique atmosphere of this city that straddles two continents. As evening approaches, we will head to Taksim, known for its dynamic commercial hub and a place where modernity meets tradition. You'll have the opportunity to dine at one of the many restaurants and perhaps take a ride on the charming old tram that adds to Taksim's character. Alternatively, you might choose to visit the nearby Galata Tower to complete your day's adventure.
Day 3 - Istanbul
Today, we'll set sail on a delightful two-hour cruise along the Bosphorus, with tickets already sorted for you. A private boat will allow us an exclusive experience as we glide through the strait, a vital waterway linking the Black Sea with the Sea of Marmara. This journey offers remarkable views of both the European and Asian sides of Istanbul. We'll witness the bustling activity of various boats and pass under the impressive bridges that unite two continents. Along the way, marvel at the splendour of the Sultans palaces, the traditional wooden houses, and the grandeur of Ottoman architecture. Following our return to central Istanbul, you'll have some free time to explore the city at your own pace.
Day 4 - Istanbul - Ephesus - Kusadasi
On our fourth day, well set off early from Istanbul to continue our exploration of Turkey. By midday, well arrive at Ephesus, a marvel of ancient civilisation and the best-preserved city in Asia Minor, which was once home to a thriving population of a quarter-million people. Well delve into history with visits to the Basilica of St. John, the House of the Virgin Mary, and the archaeological site, all included in our adventure. Post exploration, well move on to the lively coastal town of Kusadasi, renowned for its bustling atmosphere, vibrant shopping areas, and charming castle. Here, well enjoy an overnight stay with dinner included. Please note that during the high season (from May to October), accommodations may be arranged in nearby Aydin instead of Kusadasi. In this case, we will pause in Kusadasi from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., include a city panorama tour, and then continue to Aydin for the night.
Day 5 - Kusadasi - Bodrum - Marmaris
On the fifth day, we begin our adventure with an early departure to discover one of Turkey's natural masterpieces, Lake Bafa. This remarkable spot offers a moment of tranquillity amidst its serene and captivating landscape. Our journey continues to Bodrum, a striking city with Greek origins that is fortified and brimming with life. Here, you are free to explore the notable castle, wander its lively tourist-filled streets, or visit the marina. After enjoying lunch, we head to Marmaris, another charming coastal destination known for its castle, pier, and inviting fountains. Your evening includes a delightful dinner. Please note, especially during summer, our accommodation may be arranged in Mugla, a town nearby, instead of Marmaris.
Day 6 - Marmaris - Rhodes
Today, our journey takes us towards Greece as we set off from Marmaris in the early morning for a ferry crossing to Rhodes. The express ferry ride lasts approximately an hour, during which we will go through standard border-crossing procedures. Once on the island of Rhodes, we will embark on an exploration of its historic walled city and ancient quarter. This area is a fascinating tapestry of diverse cultural influences, ranging from Greek and Roman to Byzantine, the Knights of St. John, Ottoman, and Italian periods. After soaking in the rich history during our morning tour, the afternoon is yours to uncover the enchanting streets of Rhodes at your own pace. Please bear in mind that ferry schedules between Rhodes and Marmaris are subject to change and may not run daily, except for during the summer months. As a result, this segment of our itinerary may need occasional adjustments.
Day 7 - Rhodes - Heraklion
Today, we depart from the city of Rhodes for an excursion around the island, a journey that is included in our itinerary. Our adventure begins with a visit to Filerimos Hill, where you can explore its serene monastery set against stunning landscapes. We will then proceed to Lindos, famous for its ancient fortress and Acropolis. Here, you can take in the breathtaking sea views, wander through the picturesque whitewashed streets, find a moment of relaxation on its beaches, or, if you choose, ride a donkey up to the Acropolis for a traditional experience. After enjoying lunch, we will return to Rhodes city, where you'll have free time in the afternoon to explore at your leisure. As evening approaches, we will arrange a transfer to the airport for a flight to Crete, eventually transporting you to your accommodation in Heraklion. Please be aware that direct flights between Rhodes and Crete are infrequent and can change; occasionally, flights may be rearranged for Friday morning or include a stopover in Athens.
Day 8 - Heraklion
On the morning of our eighth day, we'll set off along the scenic coastline of Crete, heading westward. Our first destination is Rethymno, a charming city with Venetian roots, renowned for its medieval castle. After exploring the quaint streets and absorbing the unique atmosphere, we'll continue our journey to Chania. This captivating city, with its impressive fortress and stately old mansions, has a history shaped by numerous cultural influences, including Romans, Byzantines, Venetians, Turks, and Egyptians. The blend of architectural styles and vibrant local life makes Chania a fascinating spot to visit. We'll return to Heraklion by the end of the day, filled with the rich cultural tapestry and scenic beauty of Crete.
Day 9 - Heraklion
Today, well explore the ancient wonders of the Palace of Knossos, immersing ourselves in the fascinating world of Minoan culture that flourished here around four thousand years ago. Our insightful guided tour will unveil the intriguing architecture and history of this significant archaeological site (admission included). Once weve absorbed the splendours of Knossos, well venture across Cretes mountainous landscapes, heading south to the charming coastal town of Agia Galini. Known for its picturesque winding streets and vibrant fishing port, Agia Galini offers a delightful setting for lunch and, should you choose, a chance for a refreshing swim in the Libyan Sea. As the day concludes, well make our way back to Heraklion, the capital of Crete. Please note that from November to April, when the summer season draws to a close and local businesses may shut, our itinerary will instead take us to the enchanting town of Matala. This area is famous for its spectacular beach and the striking cliffs, which are dotted with unique carved caves.
Day 10 - Heraklion
Today, we head east along the coast of Crete, with our first stop in the charming village of Kritsa. Here, we'll visit Panagia Kera, a 13th-century church famed for its remarkable frescoes, and your admission is included. Continuing our journey, we'll arrive in Agios Nikolaos, a picturesque town with a beautiful natural harbour. You'll have the opportunity to explore the town at your leisure and enjoy lunchthis is your time to unwind. Our day continues to Elounda, once a city-state, now a delightful tourist spot. From here, we embark on a boat trip to Spinalonga Island to explore the Fortress of Spinalonga, a former Venetian stronghold and later a leper colony. After our visit, we return to the mainland by boat and make our way back to Heraklion for the night.
Day 11 - Heraklion - Santorini - Athens
We start the day early with a transfer to the port in Heraklion, where we'll catch the high-speed ferry to the stunning island of Santorini, arriving between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. On arrival, we'll travel by bus through the island's breathtaking scenery to Oia. Known for its iconic whitewashed streets and dramatic cliffside views, Oia is simply enchanting with its castle remnants and windmills. Here, you'll have some time to enjoy lunch and take a relaxed stroll through the charming town. Later, we'll make our way to Fira, the island's bustling capital. For those keen on an adventure, you may descend to the port by cable car or donkey, where you can observe the majestic cruise ships. After soaking up the views, we'll return to the port to board our high-speed ferry around 3:15 p.m., with an expected arrival in Athens around midnight. Please note, from November to mid-April, the ferry service is suspended, and we will instead fly from Heraklion to Athens.
Day 12 - Athens
In the morning, we will set out on a panoramic tour of Athens, where you'll discover the fascinating blend of ancient and modern the city offers. Our exploration includes a visit to the historic Panathenaic Stadium, famous as the only stadium in the world built entirely of marble and the host of the first modern Olympic Games. We'll also pass by the Royal Palace, now serving as the presidential residence. Afterwards, you'll have the afternoon free to delve into Athens at your own pace, perhaps exploring its vibrant neighbourhoods, visiting one of its many museums, or indulging in the local culinary delights.
Day 13 - Athens
Following breakfast, our adventure concludes, leaving you with cherished memories of your journey.
