Day 1 - Istanbul
Welcome to Istanbul! Once you arrive, well transfer you to your hotel, allowing you some time to settle in and relax. In the afternoon, make sure to check the boards at the hotel reception for essential information regarding the start of our tour. Enjoy your free time to explore the sights, sounds, and tastes of this vibrant city at your own pace. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Istanbul
Today, we explore the vibrant city of Istanbul. Our guided tour begins with a visit to the majestic Sleymaniye Mosque, the largest mosque in Istanbul, celebrated for its stunning architecture. We then delve into the rich history of the city by exploring the ancient city walls and the dynamic Golden Horn, before visiting the bustling fishing district. You'll have the chance to admire the magnificent exterior of Hagia Sophia, a significant architectural and cultural landmark. Our day includes a visit to Topkapi Palace, once the administrative centre of the mighty Ottoman Empire. Stroll through its impressive courtyards and explore the pavilions, with entry included in your tour. In the afternoon, you're free to discover more of this fascinating city, which uniquely bridges Europe and Asia. Later, we will organise a transfer to Taksim, Istanbul's lively commercial district. Here, you can enjoy dinner at one of its many restaurants and perhaps catch a glimpse of the charming old tram that traverses the area. You may also choose to visit the iconic Galata Tower, offering panoramic views of the city.
Day 3 - Istanbul
On the third day of our adventure in Istanbul, we'll embark on a two-hour boat trip on the Bosphorus. This private excursion will take us through the strait that connects the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara, uniquely dividing the city between its European and Asian sides. As we glide along the lively waters, we'll pass under the two impressive bridges linking Europe and Asia and admire the majestic Sultan's palaces, along with traditional wooden houses reflecting Ottoman architectural influences. Upon returning to central Istanbul, you'll have some free time to explore the city's many offerings at your leisure.
Day 4 - Istanbul - Ephesus - Kusadasi
Today, we'll depart from Istanbul early in the morning, continuing our journey through Turkey. By lunchtime, we'll arrive at Ephesus, the best-preserved ancient city of Asia Minor, which was once home to a thriving population of 250,000 people around two thousand years ago. Here, our visit includes the Basilica of St. John, the House of the Virgin Mary, and the fascinating archaeological site. As we delve into the rich history of Ephesus, marvel at the remnants of this once-great city. Our day continues with a journey to Kusadasi, a lively coastal town renowned for its vibrant atmosphere, bustling commercial life, and charming castle. We will stay overnight in Kusadasi, with dinner included. During the high season, from May to October, accommodations may be provided in the nearby town of Aydin instead. In this case, after our exploration of Ephesus, we will make a stop in Kusadasi from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., where you can enjoy a panoramic tour of the town before we proceed to Aydin.
Day 5 - Kusadasi - Bodrum - Marmaris
We begin our day early as we depart for one of Turkey's natural gems, Lake Bafa, where we pause to appreciate its tranquil beauty. Our journey then takes us to Bodrum, a fortified city with Greek origins. Here, you may choose to explore the impressive castle, wander through bustling streets teeming with visitors, or take a leisurely stroll around the marina. After lunch, we continue on to Marmaris, a scenic coastal destination famous for its charming castle, lively pier, and ornamental fountains, where we will enjoy dinner. Please be aware that during the summer months, accommodation may be provided in the nearby town of Mugla instead of Marmaris.
Day 6 - Marmaris - Rhodes
We start our day early, heading towards Greece as we catch the express ferry to Rhodes, a journey lasting approximately one hour. Upon arrival, we proceed through the customary border-crossing procedures. Once settled in Rhodes, we embark on a fascinating tour of its impressive walled city and historic quarter, showcasing a rich tapestry of cultural influences from Greek and Roman to Byzantine, the Knights of St. John, Ottoman, and Italian. The afternoon offers you the opportunity to explore at your leisure and immerse yourself in this city's unique charm. Please remember that the ferry schedule between Rhodes and Marmaris is subject to frequent changes and does not operate daily outside of the summer months, so this part of the itinerary might need adjustments.
Day 7 - Rhodes - Heraklion
Today, we depart from the city of Rhodes to explore the wider islandan experience included in your itinerary. Our first destination is Filerimos, perched on a hill offering stunning views and home to a monastery that you are welcome to visit. We will then proceed to Lindos, where you can explore its ancient fortress and Acropolis, both boasting breathtaking vistas of the surrounding sea. You might choose to meander through the charming whitewashed streets, relax on its inviting beaches, or even partake in a traditional donkey ride up to the Acropolis. After a leisurely lunch, we'll make our way back to Rhodes city, allowing for some free time in the afternoon to further explore or relax as you wish. As evening approaches, we will coordinate your transfer to the airport for a flight to Crete, upon which you will be transported to your hotel in Heraklion. Please note that direct flights between Rhodes and Crete are limited and may involve a stopover in Athens or be scheduled for Friday morning, depending on availability.
Day 8 - Heraklion
Well start our day with a scenic drive along the coast, heading westward on the island of Crete. Our first destination is Rethymno, a charming coastal city with a rich Venetian heritage, where you'll appreciate the medieval castle and historical atmosphere. Continuing our journey, we'll make our way to Chania. This city is a captivating blend of history and culture, with its impressive fortress and elegant mansions that have witnessed centuries of conflict and influence from a myriad of civilizations, including Romans, Byzantines, Venetians, and more. After a full day of exploration, we'll return to Heraklion in the evening.
Day 9 - Heraklion
Today, our adventure begins with a visit to the Palace of Knossos, where we will explore the fascinating Minoan culture that flourished around four thousand years ago and significantly influenced the development of Greek civilisation. Admission and a guided tour of this historic site are included. Following our tour, we will journey through Crete's majestic mountains, making our way south to the shores of the Libyan Sea. Our destination is Agia Galini, a charming town characterised by its meandering streets, a delightful fishing port, and bustling taverns. Here, you'll have some time to enjoy lunch and perhaps a refreshing swim in the sea. As the day draws to a close, we'll return to the capital, Heraklion. Please note, from November to April, due to seasonal business closures, we will instead visit the picturesque town of Matala, famed for its stunning beach and the unique cliff-side caves.
Day 10 - Heraklion
On day 10, we will set off along the eastern coast of Crete, first visiting the quaint town of Kritsa. Here, we explore Panagia Kera, a 13th-century church celebrated for its remarkable frescoes, with entry included in your tour. Our journey then continues to Agios Nikolaos, a charming town with a natural port. Enjoy some time to wander around and savour lunch at your leisure in this picturesque setting. Afterwards, we make our way to Elounda, once a city-state and now a beautiful tourist destination. From Elounda, we'll take a boat trip to Spinalonga Island to visit the Fortress of Spinalonga, a former Venetian stronghold later known as a leper colony. Following our visit, we return by boat and make our way back to Heraklion for the night.
Day 11 - Heraklion - Santorini
We begin our day bright and early with a transfer to the port, where we will board a high-speed ferry bound for the enchanting island of Santorini. Our arrival is expected between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. Once on the island, well travel by bus through scenic landscapes to reach Oia, renowned as Santorinis most picturesque town. Its characteristic whitewashed streets offer exhilarating cliffside views, dotted with charming castle ruins and traditional windmills. Here, you will have the opportunity to explore at your own pace and savour a leisurely lunch in this stunning setting. Next, we make our way to Fira, Santorini's bustling capital. While in Fira, we highly recommend embarking on a boat trip to the hot springsa wonderful way to relax and experience the islands natural beautyand later, witnessing the breathtaking sunset from a traditional Mediterranean boat. This is a perfect way to conclude a delightful day on Santorini.
Day 12 - Santorini - Mykonos
Following breakfast, well set sail on a ferry to the enchanting island of Mykonos. Upon our arrival, well organise a transfer to your hotel. According to Greek mythology, this island was the site of the epic battle between Zeus and the Titans. Once settled in, you'll have ample free time to explore Mykonos's charm. Meander through its enchanting narrow streets, soak in the sights of Little Venice, and admire the iconic windmills that have made this island famous. Whether you choose to relax by the sea or delve into its vibrant atmosphere, Mykonos promises an inspiring and enjoyable experience.
Day 13 - Mykonos
Following breakfast, you have the entire day free to explore the enchanting island of Mykonos at your own pace. We suggest making a visit to Delos, a significant archaeological site revered as the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis, offering a unique glimpse into one of Ancient Greece's most sacred sites. Alternatively, you might choose to unwind on the renowned Paradise and Super Paradise beaches, celebrated for their clear waters and lively atmosphere. Whether you decide to delve into the island's rich history or simply bask in the sun, Mykonos promises a day of delightful leisure and discovery.
Day 14 - Mykonos - Athens
After breakfast, we will handle your transfer to the port, where you'll board the ferry bound for Athens. Expect a late-night arrival at the Port of Piraeus, around 11:00 p.m. This journey offers a scenic transition from island charm to the historical allure of the Greek capital.
Day 15 - Athens - Tripoli - Olympia - Patras
Today, we embark on a journey through the Peloponnese, with our first stop at the Corinth Canal, an awe-inspiring feat of nineteenth-century engineering. As we travel across the mountainous terrain, we arrive in Tripoli, the capital of the Arcadia region. Here, we'll pause to explore Aeros Square, a lively spot teeming with cafes and restaurants. Our adventure continues to Olympia, the birthplace of the ancient Olympic Games, which first occurred in 776 B.C. A guided tour of this historic archaeological site awaits us, where we'll discover significant landmarks like the Temple of Zeus, the Stadium, and the Gymnasium. Our journey then takes us to Patras, Greece's third-largest city, home to a stunning medieval fortress and the country's grandest cathedral. Adjacent to this cathedral is the small yet significant church of St. Andrew, a noted pilgrimage site. Dinner will be part of our experience today, enhancing the richness of our day.
Day 16 - Patras - Nafpaktos - Mycenae - Corinth - Athens
Following breakfast, well make our way across the impressive Rio-Antirrio bridge, linking the Peloponnese with the Greek mainland. Our day begins in Nafpaktos, a charming town on the Gulf of Corinth. You'll have time to wander around its picturesque harbour and explore the historic old town. This area is famously known as Lepanto, the site of a significant naval battle where the Christian and Turkish forces clashed, resulting in the iconic Cervantes losing his arm. Our journey continues along the scenic Gulf of Corinth towards Mycenae. Here, you can visit the ancient citadel that stands as a testament to early European civilisation, with its origins in the 18th century BC. You'll have the opportunity to enjoy some free time to explore the archaeological site and have lunch.In the afternoon, well visit the majestic Fortress of Acrocorinth. This ancient site includes remnants of a temple dedicated to Aphrodite, perched on the settlements highest point. A brief stop at the engineering marvel of the Corinth Canal will follow as we make our way to Athens, where we will arrive in the evening.
Day 17 - Athens
Today offers you the perfect opportunity to explore Athens at your own pace. Delve into the enticing charm of this historical city, where ancient landmarks like the Acropolis and the Parthenon await your discovery. Stroll through the vibrant neighbourhoods of Plaka and Monastiraki, where bustling markets, charming cafes, and rich architectural heritage greet you at every turn. Whether you're a history enthusiast or simply wish to soak in the lively atmosphere, Athens promises a day filled with unforgettable experiences and discoveries.
Day 18 - Athens
After breakfast, our adventure reaches its conclusion in Athens, leaving you with cherished memories of an unforgettable journey.
