Day 1 - Istanbul
Upon arriving in Istanbul, we will ensure your smooth transition from the airport to your hotel, giving you a chance to settle in. Spend your free time as you wish, whether it's relaxing or beginning to explore the vibrant streets of this fascinating city. In the afternoon, keep an eye on the information boards at the hotel reception for details regarding the start of our adventure. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Istanbul
Today, we embark on an exciting city tour of Istanbul, offering a glimpse into its rich history and culture. Our journey takes us to the awe-inspiring Sleymaniye Mosque, the largest in the city, which stands as a testament to the architectural prowess of the Ottoman era. We'll also explore the ancient city walls and the bustling Golden Horn's fishing district. Taking in the impressive exterior of the Hagia Sophia, you'll understand why this structure has captivated visitors for centuries. Included in our tour is a visit to the Topkapi Palace, once the grand administrative centre of the Ottoman Empire, where we can wander through its magnificent courtyards and pavilions.In the afternoon, enjoy some leisure time to further explore this vibrant metropolis that gracefully spans two continents. As evening approaches, we will provide a transfer to Taksim, the lively commercial heart of Istanbul. Here, you have the opportunity to dine in one of the many restaurants, watch the charming old tram in action, or perhaps explore the historic Galata Tower nearby.
Day 3 - Istanbul
Today, we set sail on an exclusive boat excursion along the captivating Bosphorus Strait, with all tickets included. This approximately two-hour journey offers a unique perspective on Istanbul, famously split between Europe and Asia. As we navigate this bustling strait littered with vessels, youll have the opportunity to witness the vibrant activity on the water. Our route takes us under the iconic bridges linking two continents, and past the beautiful Sultans palaces, traditional wooden homes, and examples of striking Ottoman architecture that grace the waterfront. After the cruise, well return to central Istanbul, where youll have some free time to further explore this fascinating city at your leisure.
Day 4 - Istanbul - Ephesus - Kusadasi
We depart early from Istanbul and set off on our journey through Turkey. Around midday, we arrive at Ephesus, renowned as the best-preserved ancient city in Asia Minor. Once bustling with a population of 250,000, this city offers a fascinating glimpse into the past. Our visit includes entry to the Basilica of St. John, the House of the Virgin Mary, and the impressive archaeological site. After delving into the rich history of Ephesus, we continue to Kusadasi, a lively coastal town celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere, bustling trade, and charming castle. We'll be staying the night in Kusadasi, with dinner included. Please note, during high season from May to October, accommodation will be provided in Aydin instead of Kusadasi. In that case, after exploring Ephesus, we'll stop in Kusadasi from approximately 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., where you'll enjoy a panoramic tour of the city before we journey on to Aydin.
Day 5 - Kusadasi - Bodrum - Marmaris
We set off early to encounter one of Turkeys natural wonders, Lake Bafa, taking a moment to appreciate its calm and beauty. Our travel continues to Bodrum, a picturesque fortified city with Greek origins. Here, youll have the opportunity to explore its impressive castle, wander through lively streets filled with tourists, or discover the marina's charm. After lunch, we proceed to Marmaris, another delightful coastal spot known for its historic castle, pier, and fountains. Dinner is included in this vibrant setting. Please be aware: during the height of summer, accommodation might be arranged in the nearby town of Mugla instead of Marmaris.
Day 6 - Marmaris - Rhodes
Today, we venture to Greece, leaving Marmaris early in the morning to board the express ferry to Rhodes. The journey takes approximately one hour, during which we'll undergo standard border-crossing procedures. Upon arrival in Rhodes, you'll be greeted by the island's stunning walled city and historic quarter that showcase a fascinating blend of Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Knights of St. John, Ottoman, and Italian influences. After our guided tour, you will have the afternoon free to explore more of the island at your own pace. Please note that ferry schedules between Rhodes and Marmaris can be subject to frequent changes and do not operate daily, except during the summer months, meaning adjustments to this part of the itinerary may be necessary.
Day 7 - Rhodes - Rhodes - Athens Ferry
Today, we set out from Rhodes city on a delightful excursion to uncover the island's treasures. Our first stop is Filerimos, perched serenely atop a hill, where you will have the opportunity to explore its peaceful monastery and take in the stunning surrounding landscapes. From here, we journey on to Lindos, home to an impressive fortress and Acropolis. You can take in the breathtaking views of the sea, wander through Lindos' charming whitewashed streets, or simply relax on one of its sun-kissed beaches. For the adventurous, there is an option to enjoy a traditional donkey ride up to the Acropolis. Later in the day, we regroup at Rhodes port to embark on an overnight ferry to Athens, giving you a chance to reflect on the day's discoveries. Please ensure you arrive at the port in good time for boarding.
Day 8 - Rhodes - Athens Ferry - Tripoli - Olympia - Patras
We arrive at Athens-Piraeus promptly at 7 a.m. and disembark, ready to explore the Peloponnese. Our first stop is the historic Corinth Canal, a remarkable feat of 19th-century engineering. Continuing through the mountain scenery, we soon reach Tripoli, the capital of the Arcadia region. Here, we'll pause to enjoy some free time in Aeros Square, a vibrant hub where you can relax in one of the cafes and watch the world go by. Our journey then takes us to Olympia, an ancient site steeped in history. With a local guide, we'll explore the grounds where the first Olympic Games were held in 776 B.C. Discover the remains of the Temple of Zeus, the Stadium, the Gymnasium, and the Arena, each telling stories of a glorious past. Our adventure continues to Patras, Greece's third-largest city, known for its striking medieval fortress and the country's largest cathedral. Adjacent to the cathedral is the quaint church of St. Andrew, an important site of pilgrimage. The day concludes with a hearty dinner, included as part of our memorable journey.
Day 9 - Patras - Nafpaktos - Mycenae - Corinth - Athens
Following breakfast, we will traverse the impressive Rio-Antirrio bridge, a stunning feat of modern engineering. This magnificent cable-stayed bridge connects the Peloponnese with mainland Greece. Our first destination is Nafpaktos, a charming town situated on the Gulf of Corinth. With its picturesque harbour and enchanting old town, Nafpaktos offers a perfect spot to wander at your leisure. Keep an eye out for the Venetian fortress, a testament to the town's historical significance known as Lepanto, where a pivotal battle took place between Christian and Ottoman forces an event in which famed writer Cervantes famously lost his arm.Our journey continues along the scenic Gulf of Corinth until we arrive at Mycenae. This formidable citadel, dating back to the 18th century BC, is considered the birthplace of European civilisation. You will have free time to explore this archaeological wonder and enjoy lunch. We will then proceed to the impressive Fortress of Acrocorinth, where remnants of an ancient temple dedicated to Aphrodite reside at the settlement's highest point. Admission to both sites is included. Our route will include a brief stop at the striking Corinth Canal, an engineering marvel of the late 19th century. We end our day arriving in Athens in the evening, ready for another day of exploration.
Day 10 - Athens
Spend the day at your leisure, immersing yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of Athens. This is your opportunity to explore the city's renowned landmarks and hidden gems at your own pace. You might choose to wander through the ancient streets of Plaka, visit the iconic Acropolis for breathtaking views and a glimpse into ancient history, or indulge in the delectable local cuisine at one of the many traditional tavernas. Whether delving into the rich history or simply soaking up the local culture, today is yours to embrace all that this fascinating city has to offer.
Day 11 - Athens
After breakfast, our journey concludes, leaving you with fond memories of the experiences and sights you've enjoyed.
