Day 1 - Madrid
Upon your arrival in Madrid, we'll arrange your transfer to the hotel, ensuring a smooth start to your journey. Once settled, you'll have some free time before the tour officially kicks off. Be sure to check the signage at the hotel's reception for details about the welcome meeting, where you'll get the chance to meet your guide and fellow travellers. As evening approaches, we'll take you to the vibrant Plaza Mayor and the lively La Latina neighbourhood, famous for its nightlife and tapas restaurants. Here, you're free to explore and dine at a restaurant of your choice, with a variety of cuisines available including Indian, Chinese, Spanish, and Middle Eastern. Enjoy your first night in this captivating city. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Madrid
In the morning, we'll embark on an enriching tour of central Madrid, taking in iconic sights such as Paseo del Prado, Cibeles, Neptuno, Puerta de Alcal, Plaza de Coln, and Plaza Mayor. This journey through Madrid's architectural and cultural highlights provides a comprehensive view of the city's vibrant heart. Following the city tour, we'll retreat to the lush surrounds of Retiro Park a tranquil oasis amid the urban hustle, complete with a scenic lake and the elegant Palacio de Cristal. Included in today's experiences is a visit to the Santiago Bernabu Stadium, the prestigious home of Real Madrid, widely regarded as one of the finest football clubs globally. The afternoon is yours to enjoy as you wish, whether that means delving further into Madrid's allure or relaxing at your pace. In the evening, we'll arrange a transfer back to the hotel, concluding a day rich in exploration and excitement.
Day 3 - Madrid - Granada
On our third day, we'll set off early from Madrid, venturing south through the scenic region of La Mancha. Our first stop will be the quaint village of Puerto Lpice, whose setting is reminiscent of the tales of Don Quixote. As we continue our journey, we'll cross into the vibrant region of Andalusia, passing through the Despeaperros canyon before arriving in Granada, where lunch will be provided. In the afternoon, those who have opted for the visit to the Alhambra will explore the stunning Alhambra Palace and its serene Generalife Gardens. These architectural marvels, crafted during the Moorish period, will be brought to life by our knowledgeable local guide. Please be aware of important ticketing details, as access to the Alhambra is strictly controlled, requiring accurate personal information at the time of booking. Tickets are non-refundable, and in the rare event that a visit to the Alhambra cannot be accommodated, we will instead tour the historically rich Royal Alczar of Seville.
Day 4 - Granada - Malaga - Marbella - Ronda - Seville
Following our departure from Granada, we'll make our way to the stunning Costa del Sol. Our first destination is Mlaga, where you'll have the opportunity to explore its historic centre, known for its impressive cathedral and the acclaimed Picasso Museum. We will then continue our journey along the scenic coastal highway, offering splendid views of the Mediterranean, and stop at Puerto Bans in Marbella a striking marina renowned for its elegance. In the afternoon, we'll venture into the mountains, where you'll hear tales of local bandits, before arriving at Ronda. This picturesque town is famed for its dramatic cliffside setting and the deep gorge that splits it in two. Our day will conclude as we arrive in Seville in the evening, where dinner is provided at the hotel.
Day 5 - Seville
Today we delve into the vibrant city of Seville. Our morning begins with a guided tour, showcasing the city's impressive cathedral and the iconic Giralda tower. Explore the banks of the Guadalquivir River and wander through the lively neighbourhoods of Santa Cruz and Triana, alive with local charm. Following the tour, we embark on a relaxing cruise along the Guadalquivir River, offering splendid panoramic views of the cityscape. As evening falls, you have the opportunity to experience an authentic flamenco show at a local tablao, allowing you to immerse yourself in the passionate rhythms of this traditional Spanish dance form.
Day 6 - Seville - Merida - Evora - Lisbon
Today, we set off from Seville, traversing the charming landscapes of rolling hills and vast pastures on our way to Extremadura. Our destination is Mrida, where you'll have the opportunity to explore the Archaeological Ensemble of Mrida, a remarkably preserved Roman site renowned for its ancient theatre and amphitheatre, both recognised as a World Heritage Site. You'll also have time to enjoy lunch in the city's vibrant pedestrianised historic centre, which is brimming with local eateries and charm. Later, we travel onwards to Portugal, making a stop in vora. Known for its whitewashed streets, elegant Renaissance palaces, and impressive cathedral, vora is also a World Heritage Site. Our day concludes as we arrive in Lisbon in the evening, ready to explore the delights of this Portuguese gem.
Day 7 - Lisbon
In the morning, we embark on a sightseeing tour of Lisbon, Portugals iconic capital known for its distinctive seven hills. As we wander through the city's charming alleys adorned with iconic tiles, you'll experience the unique feeling of "saudade" and see the captivating Atlantic light that embellishes the cityscape. Our exploration includes the historic Belem neighbourhood, famed as the departure point for the intrepid Portuguese navigators of the 15th century. The afternoon grants you free time to explore further perhaps visit the vibrant Bairro Alto with its renowned viewpoint. Alternatively, you could opt for an excursion to the enchanting towns of Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril. In the evening, we reunite at Restauradores Square, a lively area brimming with bustling bars and cafes, before making our way back to the hotel.
Day 8 - Lisbon - Fatima - Porto
Today, we journey northwards from Lisbon to explore some of Portugal's most significant cultural sites. Our first stop is Ftima, a revered pilgrimage destination known for its sanctuaries dedicated to the Virgin Mary. You'll have the opportunity to experience the spiritual atmosphere of this important site. Afterwards, we continue to Porto, Portugals vibrant second city. Here, we'll enjoy a delightful lunch followed by a 50-minute cruise on the Douro River. Aboard a traditional "Rabelo" boat, you'll take in stunning views of the citys iconic bridges and colourful riverside architecture. After the cruise, you'll have some free time to wander through Portos historic Ribeira district. This lively area is perfect for exploring its narrow streets, charming cafs, and old merchant houses before we make our way to the hotel.
Day 9 - Porto - Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary - Cambados - Santiago de Compostela
Today, we'll traverse picturesque scenery as we journey towards Braga. Here, we will experience the oldest water-operated cable car in the world, taking us up to the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus, renowned for its stunning vistas. Following a visit to the sanctuary, you may wish to take the scenic walk down its iconic staircase. Our travels then lead us into Galicia to explore Cambados in the Ras Baixas region. We'll embark on a captivating glass-bottom boat tour along the Ra de Arousa, gaining insights into local mussel and oyster cultivation. Onboard, indulge in a tasting session featuring regional wine and fresh mussels. At lunchtime, we'll arrive in the historic city of Santiago de Compostela. A local guide will take us on a tour, navigating its medieval streets and illuminating the significance of its pilgrimage sites, which date back to the Middle Ages.
Day 10 - Santiago de Compostela - Lugo - O Cebreiro - Leon - Oviedo
On the tenth day of our journey, we will traverse the historic Way of St. James, beginning with a visit to Lugo. Here, you can explore the town's historic centre, surrounded by its impressive Roman walls, which are recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our next stop is the quaint Galician village of O Cebreiro, known for its traditional stone buildings. Continuing on to Len, we'll arrive in time for lunch. In Len, you'll be captivated by the majestic Gothic cathedral, famous for its stunning stained-glass windows. Take some time to wander the charming historic town centre before we cross the Cantabrian Range, heading into Asturias. By evening, we will reach Oviedo, where we will enjoy a guided tour, either tonight or in the morning. This tour will introduce us to the citys landmarks, including the 9th-century cathedral, the Calatrava Congressional Palace, Campoamor Theatre, and the bustling Calle de la Rua. We will conclude our day with a traditional Asturian dinner in a typical cider house.
Day 11 - Oviedo - Covadonga - Santillana del Mar - Santander
Today, we embark on a journey to the breathtaking Picos de Europa, our first destination being the Basilica of Covadonga. This significant religious site is nestled in a stunning natural setting, offering awe-inspiring views. Following this, we continue along the picturesque northern coast, leading to the medieval town of Santillana del Mar, known for its well-preserved historical charm. We'll also visit the nearby Altamira Cave Museum, where entry is included. Our day concludes with a drive to Santander, the region's capital. Here, you'll enjoy a panoramic tour with a local guide, exploring the elegant city renowned for its scenic bay and beautiful coastal views.
Day 12 - Santander - Bilbao - Foronda Service Area - La Rioja - Zaragoza
After leaving Santander, well drive along the scenic Cantabrian coast, where the hills meet the sea, creating a picture-perfect backdrop. Our destination today is Bilbao, the vibrant heart of the Basque Country. Well embark on a brief exploration of the city, guided by a local expert. Highlights include the Guggenheim area, rich in modern architecture, the charming old quarter where history unfolds at every corner, and the impressive Cathedral. Once the tour concludes, you'll have time to wander the city and perhaps enjoy some authentic "pintxos," the Basque tradition of tapas. Our journey then takes us through Spains renowned wine country, La Rioja. Here, well delve into the rich history of winemaking with a visit to the Wine Culture Museum in Briones. As evening approaches, well arrive in Zaragoza, ready for a restful night before another day of exploration.
Day 13 - Zaragoza - Poblet - Barcelona
On the thirteenth day of our journey, we begin with a captivating morning tour of Zaragoza, expertly guided by a local. Our exploration will include the impressive Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, celebrated for its architectural splendour and religious significance. You will also have the chance to learn about the illustrious painter Goya as we uncover some of his renowned works. The tour will take us past the ancient Roman theatre and a grand Renaissance palace, concluding with a leisurely walk near the Aljafera Palace.After enjoying a meal, our route leads us to Catalonia, where we will visit the magnificent Poblet Abbey, nestled amidst scenic landscapes. Known as one of the best-preserved medieval monasteries, the Abbey offers a glimpse into monastic life, and tickets are included for your visit. In the evening, we will arrive in Barcelona, ready to embrace the vibrant culture of this iconic city.
Day 14 - Barcelona
This morning, we'll set off on an engaging panoramic tour of Barcelona, celebrated as one of Europes most captivating capitals. Situated along the beautiful Mediterranean coastline, the city is renowned for the imaginative modernist architecture of Antoni Gaud, the lively atmosphere of Las Ramblas, and its rich historical tapestry, which has hosted events such as the Universal Exposition and the Olympic Games. After the tour, you will have free time in the afternoon to explore at your own pace. In the evening, we'll provide transportation to Maremagnum, a dynamic seafront complex near Plaza de Coln, offering a wide selection of entertainment and dining options. Here, you can enjoy a leisurely evening, taking in the vibrant atmosphere and choosing from a range of enticing culinary experiences.
Day 15 - Barcelona - Peniscola - Valencia - Madrid
We embark on a scenic drive southward along the Mediterranean coast, pausing in Pescola, a captivating fortified town by the sea. Take a stroll and soak in the picturesque surroundings. We then continue to Valencia, a lively port city on Spain's Levantine coast, arriving around lunchtime. Perhaps you'll sample the renowned paella, a local culinary delight. In the afternoon, approximately 4:30 p.m., we resume our journey to Madrid, with a quick stop to admire the innovative architecture of Valencia's City of Arts and Sciences. Expect to reach Madrid between 8:30 and 9:00 p.m. Please note that the return leg from Valencia to Madrid may involve a high-speed train depending on the number of travellers.
Day 16 - Madrid
As your journey concludes, enjoy a leisurely breakfast to recount the wonderful experiences and unforgettable memories you've gathered along the way.
