Day 1 - Madrid
Welcome to Madrid! Upon your arrival at the airport, we will arrange your transfer to the hotel. You will have some free time to relax until the tour officially begins. Please check the signs in the hotel reception area for details about the welcome meeting with your guide and fellow travellers. In the evening, we'll take you to experience the lively atmosphere of Plaza Mayor and La Latina, Madrid's renowned hotspot for nightlife and tapas dining. Here, you're free to choose from a variety of restaurants offering Indian, Chinese, Spanish, and Middle Eastern cuisines for your dinner. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Madrid
We start the day with an engaging tour through the heart of Madrid, exploring renowned sights such as Paseo del Prado, Cibeles, Neptuno, Puerta de Alcal, Plaza de Coln, and the bustling Plaza Mayor. We'll then head to Retiro Park, a tranquil retreat in the city, to view its charming lake and the iconic Palacio de Cristal. Following this, we visit the Santiago Bernabu Stadium, home to Real Madrid and widely acclaimed as one of the top football clubs globally. Admission is included for this visit. After the morning's activities, you'll have some free time to explore Madrid at your own pace or relax before we provide a return transfer to your hotel in the evening.
Day 3 - Madrid - Merida - Evora - Lisbon
On our third day, we will depart from Madrid towards Mrida, the capital of the Extremadura region. In Mrida, we will explore the magnificent Roman Theatre and Amphitheatre, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its remarkable preservation. Following our cultural immersion, you'll have time to enjoy lunch in the town's vibrant pedestrian-friendly historic centre, bustling with life and local eateries. Our adventure then takes us to Portugal, where we pause in vora. This city, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, is famed for its picturesque white streets, elegant Renaissance palaces, and impressive cathedral. We will conclude our day's journey with an arrival in Lisbon by evening.
Day 4 - Lisbon
In the morning, we will embark on a tour of Lisbon, exploring the vibrant Portuguese capital renowned for its seven hills. Meander through charming alleys adorned with iconic tiles, feel the poignant "saudade," and take in the citys beautiful Atlantic light. Our visit will include the historic Belm neighbourhood, where legendary Portuguese explorers set out on their 15th-century ocean voyages. The afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure; consider venturing to the Bairro Alto for stunning views, or perhaps partake in an optional trip to the picturesque towns of Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril. As the day draws to a close, well make our way back to the hotel, departing from the lively Restauradores Square, where vibrant cafes and bars abound.
Day 5 - Lisbon - Fatima - Porto
On the fifth day of our journey, we venture north through Portugal, visiting the revered pilgrimage destination of Ftima. Known for the reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary in 1917, Ftima has since become a site of deep spiritual significance. Our travels continue to Porto, the second-largest city in the country. After a leisurely lunch, we board a traditional Rabelo boat for a scenic 50-minute cruise along the Douro River. This offers a distinct perspective of Portos charming riverside views. Later in the afternoon, you'll have free time to explore the historic Ribeira district, known for its quaint alleyways and vibrant atmosphere, before we head to the hotel for the evening.
Day 6 - Porto - Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary - Cambados - Santiago de Compostela
Today, we set off through breathtaking landscapes towards Braga. Here, we will experience the oldest water-operated cable car in the world, which will transport us to the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus. This site offers stunning panoramic views, and after our visit, we recommend descending via its charming staircase. Our journey continues into the region of Galicia, where we explore Cambados, a historic town nestled in the Ras Baixas. Well board a glass-bottom boat for a tour along the Ra de Arousa, gaining insights into local mussel and oyster farming, while enjoying a tasting of these delicacies paired with wine. Come lunchtime, we arrive in Santiago de Compostela. A local guide will lead us on a tour through its medieval streets, delving into the citys significance as one of the worlds renowned pilgrimage destinations, steeped in history dating back to the Middle Ages.
Day 7 - Santiago de Compostela - Lugo - O Cebreiro - Leon - Oviedo
We will journey along the famed Way of St. James, starting with a visit to Lugo, where you will have the opportunity to discover the charming town centre and its remarkable Roman walls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our next stop is O Cebreiro, a picturesque Galician village featuring traditional stone buildings. As we continue our adventure, we will arrive in Len around midday. Here, we will take in the splendour of the Gothic cathedral, celebrated for its stunning stained-glass windows, and enjoy a leisurely walk through the historical town centre. Crossing the Cantabrian Range, we will make our way to Asturias, reaching Oviedo by the evening. Upon arrival, or the following morning, a local guide will offer insights during a tour of the city, including visits to the 9th-century cathedral, the Calatrava Congressional Palace, Campoamor Theatre, and the vibrant Calle de la Rua. To conclude the day, we will experience a traditional Asturian dinner at a local cider house.
Day 8 - Oviedo - Covadonga - Santillana del Mar - Santander
Today, we journey through the picturesque landscapes of the Picos de Europa, beginning with a stop at the Basilica of Covadonga. Nestled amidst the mountains, this historical site marks the starting point of our travels along the northern coastline. We trace our way to Santillana del Mar, renowned for its well-preserved medieval quarter. Strolling through the cobbled streets, youll feel transported back in time as you take in the charm of this historic town. The nearby Altamira Cave Museum, where we've included tickets, offers a glimpse into prehistoric art and life. In the afternoon, we head to Santander the capital of Cantabria, known for its stunning coastal vistas. Our day concludes with a guided panoramic tour to uncover the elegance and rich maritime heritage of this vibrant city.
Day 9 - Santander - Bilbao - Foronda Service Area - La Rioja - Zaragoza
Today, we will follow the motorway along the Cantabrian coast, where stunning landscapes meet the sea as we make our way to Bilbao, the vibrant heart of the Basque Country. Upon arrival, we'll enjoy a brief city tour with a local guide, taking in notable sites such as the Guggenheim area, the charming old quarter, and the impressive Cathedral. After the tour, you'll have some leisure time to explore at your own pace and perhaps indulge in some authentic "pintxos", the Basque Country's renowned tapas. Our journey then continues towards La Rioja, a region celebrated for its exceptional wines. Here, we will visit the Wine Culture Museum in Briones, where you can immerse yourself in the rich history of winemaking. We'll end the day arriving in Zaragoza in the evening, ready for another day of exploration.
Day 10 - Zaragoza - Poblet - Barcelona
Today, we'll commence with a panoramic tour of Zaragoza, led by a local expert. Our first visit will be the Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, a remarkable Baroque edifice with deep religious significance. The itinerary includes exploring some of the masterpieces by the celebrated painter Goya. We'll also take in the Roman theatre and a Renaissance palace, followed by a leisurely stroll around the Aljafera Palace, known for its impressive Moorish architecture.After lunch, our journey continues towards Catalonia, where we will visit the renowned Poblet Abbey. Set against a serene backdrop, this UNESCO World Heritage site is one of the best-preserved medieval monasteries globally. With tickets included, we'll have the opportunity to appreciate its historical significance and architectural beauty. Later, we will proceed to Barcelona, where we anticipate arriving by the evening.
Day 11 - Barcelona
In the morning, we'll embark on a panoramic tour of Barcelona, celebrated as one of Europe's most captivating cities. Located on the Mediterranean coast, Barcelona is renowned for Gaud's distinctive modernist architecture, the lively atmosphere of Las Ramblas, and a rich history highlighted by hosting the Universal Exposition and the Olympics. The afternoon is yours to explore the city at your own pace. In the evening, we'll provide a transfer to Maremagnum, a contemporary entertainment and dining hub by the sea, close to Plaza de Coln. Here, you can take a relaxing stroll along the lively waterfront and choose from a variety of dining options for your evening meal.
Day 12 - Barcelona - Peniscola - Valencia - Madrid
We'll set off southwards along the Mediterranean, pausing at the charming coastal town of Peniscola. This enchanting walled town, framed by picturesque scenery, offers a delightful place for a stroll. After exploring Peniscola, we'll journey onwards to Valencia, a lively port city on Spain's Levantine coast, arriving around midday. It's the perfect time to indulge in the renowned local dish, paella. At about 4:30 p.m., we'll resume our journey to Madrid. Before we depart, we'll make a brief visit to Valencia's City of Arts and Sciences, a striking example of modern architecture. We'll aim to reach Madrid between 8:30 and 9:00 p.m. Please note that, depending on passenger numbers, the leg from Valencia to Madrid may be by high-speed train.
Day 13 - Madrid
Following breakfast, our tour concludes, leaving you with cherished memories of your journey.
