Day 1 - Madrid - Granada
We depart from Madrid early in the morning, heading south through the expansive landscapes of La Mancha. Our first stop takes us to Puerto Lpice, a quaint Manchego village that may remind you of the adventures of Don Quixote. From there, we continue our journey into Andalusia via the Despeaperros natural pass, eventually reaching the historic city of Granada. Here, lunch is included. You will have the afternoon free to explore the city at your own pace. We suggest visiting the impressive Cathedral, where the Catholic Monarchs are interred, or taking a leisurely walk through the Albaicn neighbourhood to enjoy stunning views of the Alhambra from the Mirador de San Nicols. Please note that admission to the Alhambra is not included in your tour, so we recommend securing tickets through the official Alhambra website or through a local tour provider if you wish to visit. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Granada - Malaga - Marbella - Ronda - Seville
Departing from Granada, we journey towards the sunny Costa del Sol. Our first stop is Mlaga, where you'll have the opportunity to stroll through its historic district, renowned for its impressive cathedral and the fascinating Picasso Museum. We then continue along the scenic coastal highway, where you'll enjoy breathtaking views of the Mediterranean. Our next destination is the glamorous Puerto Bans in Marbella, a sophisticated marina known for its luxury yachts and vibrant atmosphere. In the afternoon, we traverse the mountains while listening to tales of the region's infamous bandits. Our day concludes in the charming town of Ronda, famed for its dramatic location perched above a deep canyon that splits the town. We then make our way to Seville, arriving by evening, where we will enjoy dinner at the hotel.
Day 3 - Seville
In the morning, we will set off on a guided tour of Seville, showcasing the city's remarkable highlights. You will witness the grandeur of the Seville Cathedral, crowned by the iconic Giralda tower. We will also explore the scenic banks of the Guadalquivir River and wander through the enchanting neighbourhoods of Santa Cruz and Triana, each with its own unique charm. Following the tour, enjoy a delightful boat ride on the Guadalquivir River, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the cityscape. As the evening unfolds, you might choose to attend a lively flamenco tablao performance, immersing yourself in this captivating Spanish tradition.
Day 4 - Seville - Merida - Evora
We'll depart from Seville, travelling through enchanting landscapes of rolling hills and expansive pastures as we make our way towards Extremadura. Our first stop is Mrida, where entry to the Archaeological Ensemble is included, allowing us to marvel at the well-preserved Roman Theatre and Amphitheatre, both recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for their historical significance. Youll have time to enjoy lunch and explore the vibrant pedestrianised historic centre, which is bustling with enticing restaurants. As we cross into Portugal, well arrive in vora, yet another UNESCO World Heritage Site that captivates with its charming whitewashed streets, Renaissance palaces, and imposing cathedral. You will have some free time to discover the town at your leisure.
Day 5 - Evora - Marvo - Castelo de Vide - Tomar - Fatima
Today, we'll journey through the captivating Alentejo region. Our first stop is Marvo, a picturesque walled town offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Well then proceed to Castelo de Vide, where you'll have the chance to explore its remarkable castle and wander around the historic Jewish quarter. Here, you might visit the medieval synagogue, now a museum, or enjoy a leisurely stroll through the town's winding streets. After lunch, our journey continues to Tomar, famous for the Convent of Christ, a stunning castle-convent with historical ties to the Order of the Templars. Entry is included, allowing you to explore this architectural gem. Before reaching Ftima, well visit Aljustrel, the birthplace of the three young shepherds who witnessed the apparitions of the Virgin Mary. You have the opportunity to see Lucias house. Upon arrival in Ftima, youll have free time to explore the Sanctuary of Ftima at your leisure. If you wish, you can participate in the candlelight procession, although this is not available during the winter months. Dinner is included today.
Day 6 - Fatima - Porto
Today, we journey to the north of Portugal, arriving in Porto, the country's second-largest city, around 11:00 a.m. Upon our arrival, we will embark on a 50-minute cruise along the Douro River on a traditional "Rabelo" boat, offering a unique view of the city's stunning riverside. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to wander through the vibrant Ribeira district, famous for its narrow streets brimming with historic merchant buildings and charming cafs, before we head to our hotel for the evening.
Day 7 - Porto - Braga - Guimares - Bom Jesus - Pinho - Coimbra
On the seventh day, we will embark on a captivating journey through the picturesque landscapes of northern Portugal. Our first stop is Braga, often referred to as Portugals religious capital, where we'll explore the historic cathedral. We will then journey to the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus, ascending via the worlds oldest cable car to enjoy the majestic views. You might wish to descend the impressive staircase to fully appreciate its magnificence. Next, we head to Guimares, the first capital of Portugal, renowned for the remarkable Palace of the Dukes. After lunch surrounded by picturesque vineyards, we'll enter the stunning Douro Valley, passing through Sabrosa, the birthplace of the explorer Magellan. In Pinho, you'll find its charming train station, beautifully decorated with traditional tiles. Here, we will enjoy a one-hour cruise along the Douro River, admiring the breathtaking scenery (note: from November to March, this will be replaced with a scenic drive featuring stops at various viewpoints along the Douro). We will conclude our day's journey by continuing to Coimbra, where we will arrive in the evening. Dinner is included.
Day 8 - Coimbra - Batalha - Nazare - Obidos - Lisbon
We will begin our day exploring Coimbra, Portugal's third largest city, celebrated for its historic university and charming, steep streets. Heading south, our next stop is the Batalha Monastery, an impressive medieval mausoleum of kings where the entrance fee is included. Following this, we will enjoy lunch and take a leisurely stroll in Nazar, a traditional fishing town that doubles as a delightful seaside resort. Here, we'll ride the lift to the old city, where splendid views of the ocean await. As our journey progresses towards Lisbon, we'll also stop in bidos, renowned for its picturesque white streets adorned with flowers. We'll conclude our travels for the day by arriving in Lisbon around 7:30 p.m.
Day 9 - Lisbon
Today, we begin our exploration of Lisbon, the renowned Portuguese capital spread across seven hills. Our morning sightseeing tour will take us through the city's picturesque alleys, showcasing its iconic tile work and the nostalgic ambiance known as "saudade." We will also visit the historic Belm neighbourhood, the starting point for the great Portuguese explorers of the 15th century. In the afternoon, youll have free time to explore at your leisure. You might choose to wander through Bairro Alto, with its stunning viewpoint, or opt for an excursion to the charming towns of Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril. Well meet back at our hotel later in the evening, after enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of Restauradores Square, where numerous lively bars and cafs await.
Day 10 - Lisbon
As your journey concludes, start your day with a hearty breakfast before cherishing the wonderful memories youve made throughout this adventure. Although it marks the end of the tour, the experiences and moments shared during this journey will surely linger fondly in your memory.
