Day 1 - Madrid
Welcome to Madrid! Upon arrival at the airport, we will be ready to transfer you to your hotel. You'll have some free time to relax before our tour officially begins. Look for information signs at the hotel reception for details about the welcome meeting with your guide and fellow travellers. In the evening, we will whisk you away to the lively Plaza Mayor and the vibrant La Latina district, renowned for its nightlife and delightful tapas bars. Here, you can savour dinner at a restaurant of your choice options include Indian, Chinese, Spanish, and Middle Eastern cuisines. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Madrid
Begin your day in Madrid with a guided tour that introduces you to the architectural and cultural landmarks of the city. We'll explore the bustling centre to take in iconic sites such as Paseo del Prado, Cibeles, Neptuno, Puerta de Alcal, Plaza de Coln, and Plaza Mayor. Our next stop is the tranquil Retiro Park, where you can admire the serene lake and the striking Palacio de Cristal. We'll ensure entry to the renowned Santiago Bernabu Stadium, home to the esteemed Real Madrid football club, regarded as one of the best globally. Following these explorations, you will have the afternoon free to discover Madrid at your own pace. In the evening, we will arrange transport back to your hotel.
Day 3 - Madrid - Granada
We'll start our third day with an early departure from Madrid as we journey south through the historic region of La Mancha. Our first stop is the quaint village of Puerto Lpice, where the spirit of Don Quixote lingers in its charming streets. Continuing our travels, we'll traverse Andalusia via Despeaperros and arrive in Granada, where lunch will be provided. In the afternoon, if you have opted for the visit to the Alhambra, we will be guided through this extraordinary palace and its exquisite Generalife Gardens, both stunning examples of Moorish architecture from the Arab period. Please note that visitor numbers to the Alhambra are strictly controlled by law. To confirm your admission, tickets will be issued once your tour is booked, and it's vital to provide accurate personal information, including your full name and passport or ID number, at the time of booking. Ticket costs are non-refundable upon cancellation. On rare occasions where an Alhambra visit isn't possible, we will explore the Royal Alczar of Seville instead, another site of comparable historical and architectural significance.
Day 4 - Granada - Malaga - Marbella - Ronda - Seville
We set off from Granada towards the Costa del Sol, with our first destination being Malaga. Here, we'll have time to wander through its historic district, where you can explore the stunning cathedral and the famous Picasso Museum. Our journey continues along the beautiful coastal highway, offering scenic views of the Mediterranean Sea. We'll stop at Puerto Bans in Marbella, renowned for its sophisticated and stunning marina. In the afternoon, as we drive through the mountains, you'll hear intriguing stories of the region's famous bandits before arriving in Ronda. This picturesque white town is dramatically perched above a deep canyon that splits the town into two. Our day culminates in Seville, where we'll arrive in the evening for a lovely dinner at the hotel.
Day 5 - Seville
We begin our day in Seville with a guided tour showcasing the citys vibrant heart. Youll explore the stunning cathedral, where the iconic Giralda bell tower showcases exquisite Moorish architecture. We'll then stroll along the banks of the Guadalquivir River, discovering the enchanting neighbourhoods of Santa Cruz and Triana, each offering its own unique charm. Later, delight in a relaxing boat ride on the Guadalquivir, where panoramic views of Seville unfold before your eyes an experience not to be missed. In the evening, consider visiting a traditional flamenco "tablao" to witness the passionate rhythm and vibrant culture that is synonymous with this captivating city.
Day 6 - Seville - Merida - Evora
As we depart Seville, prepare to be enchanted by the serene landscapes of rolling hills and vast pastures as we journey into Extremadura. Our first stop will be in Mrida, where admission is included to the Archaeological Ensemble of Mrida. This site, celebrated for its outstanding preservation, houses a Roman theatre and amphitheatre and is recognised as a World Heritage Site. You'll have time to enjoy lunch and explore the dynamic historic centre, teeming with lively restaurants. Our journey continues as we cross into Portugal, arriving in vora, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known for its charming streets, Renaissance palaces, and impressive cathedral, you'll have free time to wander and soak in its rich history and culture.
Day 7 - Evora - Marvo - Castelo de Vide - Tomar - Fatima
Today, we journey through the scenic landscapes of Alentejo, beginning with a stop in Marvo, a charming walled town renowned for its breathtaking panoramic views. Next, we explore Castelo de Vide, where you can take a leisurely stroll through its historic Jewish quarter, perhaps visiting the medieval synagogue, now a museum, or ambling through its charming streets. After our visit, we continue to Tomar, famous for the Convent of Christ a castle-convent once held by the Order of the Templars, which youll have the chance to explore. We make a brief stop in Aljustrel to see the birthplace of the three young shepherds who experienced the apparitions of the Virgin Mary. Upon our arrival in Ftima, you will have free time to visit the Sanctuary of Ftima and, should you wish, attend the candlelight procession (not held in winter months). We conclude with dinner, included as part of today's journey.
Day 8 - Fatima - Porto
Today, we venture northward to the charming city of Porto, arriving around 11:00 a.m. Our day begins with a delightful 50-minute cruise on a traditional Portuguese "Rabelo" boat along the Douro River, providing a unique vantage point to admire the city's stunning riverside scenery. After the cruise, youll have free time to explore the vibrant Ribeira district. This area is known for its narrow streets, lined with historic merchant houses and cosy cafs, perfect for unwinding and soaking in the local atmosphere. Later, well make our way to the hotel where you can relax and reflect on the days experiences.
Day 9 - Porto - Braga - Guimares - Bom Jesus - Pinho - Coimbra
We'll begin our exploration of northern Portugal with a leisurely walk through Braga, celebrated as the country's religious heart due to its historic cathedral. We then ascend to the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus on the world's oldest cable car, offering marvellous vistas. For the adventurous, consider descending on foot via the notable staircase. Our next destination is Guimares, renowned as Portugals first capital and home to the impressive Palace of the Dukes. Following lunch, set amidst the enchanting scenery of vineyards, well journey into the Douro Valley, passing the town of Sabrosa, known as the birthplace of the explorer Magellan. In Pinho, well visit its picturesque train station, decorated with traditional tiles, and enjoy a one-hour cruise along the Douro River, highlighting the region's picturesque beauty (note: from November to March, the cruise is replaced with a scenic drive, including stops at viewpoints along the Douro River). Our day concludes in Coimbra, with an arrival in the early evening and a delightful dinner to end the day.
Day 10 - Coimbra - Batalha - Nazare - Obidos - Lisbon
We'll begin our day in Coimbra, renowned as Portugals third largest city and celebrated for its ancient university and charmingly steep streets. As we make our way south, we will visit the Batalha Monastery, a stunning medieval mausoleum of Portuguese kings admission included. Lunchtime offers us an opportunity to explore Nazar, a quaint fishing town and seaside retreat. Here, the elevator ride to the old city is a highlight, offering captivating ocean views tickets are included. Before reaching Lisbon, we'll stop at bidos, one of Portugal's most picturesque towns famed for its whitewashed, flower-adorned streets. We expect to arrive in Lisbon at around 19:30.
Day 11 - Lisbon
On this day, we begin with a sightseeing tour of Lisbon, a city renowned for its unique charm, winding alleys, iconic tiled facades, and the distinctive 'saudade' atmosphere. As we traverse this capital of the seven hills, bathed in a beautiful Atlantic light, we'll delve into the historic Belem neighbourhood. This area is celebrated as the departure point for the great Portuguese navigators who embarked on their ocean-bound adventures in the 15th century. The afternoon offers you the freedom to explore furtherwander through the Bairro Alto district or enjoy panoramic views from its renowned viewpoint. If you fancy, you could opt for a trip to the picturesque towns of Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril. In the evening, we reconvene and head back to the hotel from Restauradores Square, a lively hub of bars and cafs, perfect for rounding off your day with some local flair.
Day 12 - Lisbon
On your final day in Lisbon, enjoy a leisurely breakfast and reflect on the unforgettable experiences from your journey. With memories to cherish, your tour concludes, marking the end of an enriching adventure. Safe travels as you continue on your way.
