Day 1 - Barcelona
Welcome to your adventure in Barcelona! Upon your arrival, we'll arrange your transfer to the hotel, allowing you some time to settle in and explore at your own pace. As the day progresses, you may want to locate the information boards in the hotel reception area to get acquainted with your journeys itinerary. Enjoy your free time and immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of this captivating city. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Barcelona - Girona
On the second day of our journey, we begin by exploring the vibrant city of Barcelona, known as the City of Counts. Situated along the Mediterranean, Barcelona is celebrated for its magnificent modernist architecture by Gaud and the lively atmosphere of Las Ramblas. The city also boasts a rich history, having hosted both the Universal Exposition and the Olympic Games. Barcelona is often considered one of Europe's most captivating capitals. In the evening, we depart Barcelona, heading north into Catalonia. Our destination is Girona, where we will take a leisurely walk through its historic centre. Here, you'll discover colourful houses, the renowned old Jewish quarter, and the imposing Girona Cathedral.
Day 3 - Girona - Carrieres des Lumieres - Chambery
Today, we'll travel into France through the picturesque Provence region, starting our day with a stop in Arles. Known for its UNESCO World Heritage status and historical connections to Van Gogh, Arles offers the chance to explore its impressive Roman theatre and enchanting Romanesque churches. Enjoy time to wander at your leisure and perhaps have lunch in this charming town.Later, we'll make our way to the Carrires des Lumires, an extraordinary subterranean art experience in an ancient quarry, where you'll be treated to a captivating display of art and sound. In the event that tickets are unavailable due to high demand, we'll visit the Pont du Gard, a famous Roman aqueduct, as an alternative. Our journey will continue to Chambery in the evening, the historical capital of Savoy. This medieval-style city presents a beautiful historic centre featuring an impressive castle.
Day 4 - Chambery - Geneva - Gruyeres - Leysin
We'll travel into Switzerland today, arriving in the vibrant city of Geneva. Accompanied by our guide, we'll visit the Palais des Nations, the European headquarters of the United Nations. Afterwards, we'll stroll through the picturesque English Garden, famed for its vibrant flower clock, and take in the sight of the Jet dEau the tallest fountain in Europe. Our journey continues to the quaint village of Gruyres, renowned worldwide for its cheese. Before we depart, indulge in a sweet tasting experience at the Maison Cailler Chocolate Factory, where admission is included.The journey then takes us along scenic routes, where striking mountain vistas and charming wooden villages provide a picturesque backdrop. Our next highlight is the Chillon Castle, majestically positioned on the shores of Lake Geneva. This historic site is included in your itinerary. By mid-afternoon, we'll reach Leysin, a delightful holiday village offering spectacular views over the Rhne Valley and the distant Mont Blanc. Known for its winter sports facilities and hiking opportunities, Leysin promises a memorable stay. Dinner is included this evening. Note that accommodation might occasionally be in another idyllic Swiss town nestled within the Alps, such as Martigny, depending on availability.
Day 5 - Leysin - Interlaken - Lucerne - Zurich
Today, we invite you to indulge in the breathtaking alpine landscapes that Switzerland is famous for. Prepare your winter attire as we embark on an exhilarating journey up to Glacier 3000. By cable car, we'll ascend to this magnificent site, where snow and ice grace the scenery all year long. Here, you can seize the unique opportunity to walk across a suspended bridge linking two mountain peaks, venture into the enchanting Ice Cathedral, or enjoy some fun at the park. Following this, we'll take a leisurely stop in the charming town of Interlaken for lunch. Next, we continue our journey to the picturesque city of Lucerne, renowned for its stunning waterfront and medieval architecture. Our day concludes as we make our way to Zurich, where you'll have a bit of time to explore the vibrant city centre before settling into the hotel for the evening. Please note, should adverse weather conditions necessitate the closure of the Glacier 3000 cable car, we will ensure a similarly spectacular experience to explore the captivating alpine landscapes.
Day 6 - Zurich - Bellinzona - Como - Milan
Departing Zurich early in the morning, we will journey into the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland, crossing the Alps. Our first stop is Bellinzona, known for its trio of remarkable medieval castles, which are recognised as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These fortifications, perched majestically on the hills, underline Bellinzonas historical importance as a vital alpine stronghold. You will have some free time to explore the quaint streets of the city centre at your leisure. We then continue into Italy, stopping for lunch in the enchanting town of Como. This charming locale, often described as the jewel of Lombardy, captivates with its stunning lakeside gardens and majestic cathedral. Our journey proceeds to Milan, where our guide will lead you to the marvellous Piazza del Duomo. There, you will have some personal time to explore the area before we head to our hotel for the evening.
Day 7 - Milan - Pisa - Rome
Today, we embark on a journey to the historic city of Pisa. We will travel by a charming tourist train to the renowned Piazza dei Miracoli, where you will have the opportunity to admire one of Italy's most remarkable architectural ensembles, including the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa. After exploring the artistic wonders of Pisa, well continue our journey towards Rome, reaching the Eternal City later in the day.
Day 8 - Rome
In the morning, we will delve into the heart of the Eternal City on a three-hour guided tour. Our exploration of Imperial Rome includes a walking tour combined with a panoramic bus journey, showcasing one of Western civilisation's most ancient and influential cities. We will visit renowned landmarks such as the Arch of Constantine, observe the exterior of the Colosseum and the Imperial Forums, and view the Circus Maximus, the Baths of Caracalla, the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, the Pyramid of Cestius, and Castel Sant'Angelo. The tour concludes at Vatican City around 11:00 a.m. Afterward, our guide will present an optional visit to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel. As the day winds down, we will take you to the lively neighbourhood of Trastevere, celebrated for its inviting restaurants and vibrant atmosphere. Our return to the hotel is scheduled for around 8:30 p.m.
Day 9 - Rome - Florence
Today, we bid farewell to Rome and embark on a scenic drive northwards. Our journey will take us through the picturesque landscapes of Italy, leading us to the historic city of Florence. Upon arrival, we will head to Piazzale Michelangelo, where you'll be greeted by spectacular panoramic views of the city. Here, the beauty of Florence truly unfolds before your eyes.After soaking in the stunning vistas, we will walk towards the city centre. Once we've had some time for lunch, a local expert will guide us on an enriching walking tour of Florence's historic heart. We'll visit iconic sites such as the Ponte Vecchio, the majestic Duomo, and the lively Piazza della Signoria, each a testament to the city's rich artistic and architectural legacy.Following the tour, you will have the opportunity to explore Florence at your leisure. Wander through its charming alleys, uncover hidden gems, or simply relax in one of its delightful squares. As evening falls, you'll find yourself spoiled for choice with a plethora of dining options, as this area boasts a diverse range of international cuisines to suit every palate. Enjoy a delightful evening before we settle in for the night.
Day 10 - Florence - Venice
Today, we will journey through the beautiful Apennine landscapes en route to Venice. Upon arrival, we will take a scenic boat ride across the Giudecca Canal to reach the enchanting island of Venice. A local guide will lead us through St. Marks Square, a jewel of Venetian architecture and history. You will have the opportunity to learn about the intricate art of glassmaking with a visit to the renowned Murano Glass Factory. Afterward, you'll have some free time to explore Venice at your own pace, soaking in its unique charm. Our accommodation for the night will be in the Mestre district.
Day 11 - Venice - Innsbruck - Salzburg
We will depart Venice and make our way to Austria, with our first stop being Innsbruck. Known as the capital of the Tyrol region, Innsbruck offers a charming blend of medieval history and modern life, set against a stunning Alpine backdrop. You'll have time to explore the city centre and enjoy lunch at your leisure in this picturesque Austrian town. Afterward, we'll continue our journey through the captivating mountain landscape to the renowned ski resort village of Kitzbhel, where you can discover its quaint charm and enjoy the alpine scenery. Our day concludes as we travel onto Salzburg, arriving by the end of the day, ready for tomorrow's adventures. If we have a smaller group, we may opt for a picturesque train ride from Venice to Innsbruck instead.
Day 12 - Salzburg - Lake Traunsee - Vienna
In the morning, we will explore the beautiful city of Salzburg, famously known as the birthplace of Mozart. The city's stunning Renaissance and Baroque architecture is nestled beneath an imposing castle, offering a rich cultural backdrop. Following this, we will travel through Austria's scenic lakes and mountains to the charming village of St. Wolfgang, a well-known pilgrimage destination. Our journey continues to Traunkirchen, where we will enjoy a leisurely cruise on the clear waters of Lake Traunsee. This cruise will allow us to admire the area's picturesque castles before we disembark in Gmunden. In the evening, we will arrive in Vienna, the magnificent capital of Austria, where our day concludes.
Day 13 - Vienna
We'll begin our day in Vienna with a panoramic tour led by a local guide, taking in the city's grand avenues, stunning palaces, expansive parks, and bustling city centre. In the afternoon, you're free to explore at your own pace and uncover Vienna's many charms. As evening falls, we'll transfer you to the Grinzing district, an area once a wine-growing village and now a part of the city, famed for its traditional taverns. You'll have free time here to enjoy a meal and experience its unique atmosphere.
Day 14 - Vienna - Budapest
On the fourteenth day of our journey, we travel for approximately three hours to reach Budapest, Hungary's vibrant capital. Upon our arrival, we'll begin by visiting Vci utca, a bustling area where you can enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of the local eateries. Post-lunch, we'll embark on a scenic boat trip along the Danube River, offering spectacular views of the city. With the historic Buda on one side and the lively, modern Pest on the other, this river cruise presents an unrivaled perspective of the "Queen of the Danube." After our cruise, we continue with a panoramic tour of Budapest, showcasing its architectural and cultural splendour. The rest of the afternoon is yours to explore the city further at your own pace. In the evening, you have the option to attend a traditional Magyar show, complete with dinner, for a truly immersive cultural experience.
Day 15 - Budapest
On the final day of our journey in Budapest, we will have breakfast together before concluding our adventure. As we part ways, you'll take with you a collection of cherished memories and the many experiences we've enjoyed during our travels. Feel free to spend the remainder of the day exploring Budapest at your leisure, whether revisiting favourite spots or seeking out new corners of this vibrant city.
