Welcome to Madrid! Upon your arrival at the airport, we'll arrange for your transfer to the hotel. You'll have some leisure time until the tour officially starts. Please check the hotel reception area for details about the welcome meeting with your guide and fellow travellers. Day 3 - Madrid - Zaragoza - Poblet - Barcelona
In the morning, we depart Madrid and set off for the Aragon region, passing through the scenic lands of Castile. Our first stop is Zaragoza, where you can admire the splendid Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar. We then continue our journey to the tranquil Poblet Abbey, one of the world's most beautifully preserved medieval monasteries entry is included. By evening, we will have reached the vibrant city of Barcelona.
Day 4 - Barcelona - Girona
We begin our day in Barcelona, the vibrant City of Counts, nestled along the Mediterranean coastline. Known for its stunning modernist architecture by Gaud, bustling avenues like Las Ramblas, and a rich tapestry of history from events such as the Universal Exposition and the Olympics, Barcelona is a city brimming with cultural allure. After a morning of exploring this magnificent European capital, we set off in the evening and travel north through Catalonia. Our journey leads us to Girona, where we'll enjoy a leisurely walk through its historic centre. With its colourful houses, ancient Jewish quarter, and impressive cathedral, Girona's enchanting atmosphere provides a perfect end to our day before we check into our hotel.
Day 5 - Girona - Carrieres des Lumieres - Chambery
Today, we cross the border into France, traversing the picturesque Provence region. Our first stop is the charming city of Arles, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its Roman heritage and its strong connection to the artist Vincent van Gogh. Here, we can explore the Roman theatre and enjoy the serene atmosphere of its Romanesque churches, with ample time to savour a leisurely lunch. Following Arles, we'll immerse ourselves in the mesmerising art display at Carrires des Lumires, an extraordinary underground venue where artwork is projected across vast quarry walls, creating a stunning visual and auditory experience. By evening, we'll find ourselves in Chambry, the captivating capital of the Savoy region. Our adventure continues as we travel to Switzerland, reaching the cosmopolitan city of Geneva. Here, we explore the Palais des Nations, the European headquarters of the United Nations. We also take time to enjoy the serene English Garden, where you'll find the famous flower clock, and marvel at the Jet dEau fountain, the tallest in Europe. Our journey then leads us to the picturesque, fortified village of Gruyres, known worldwide for its delicious cheese. Not far from here lies a selection of major Swiss chocolate factories, including Nestl. We visit the Maison Cailler Chocolate Factory, indulging in a delightful tasting experience.Our scenic drive continues, revealing the charm of Switzerlands mountains and quaint wooden villages, culminating in a stop at Chillon Castle, gracing the shores of Lake Geneva. Admission is included to this captivating fortress. By mid-afternoon, we reach the idyllic village of Leysin, set against the backdrop of the Rhne Valley and Mont Blanc. This mountain resort, celebrated for its winter sports and hiking, offers breathtaking views. We will enjoy an included dinner here. Note that depending on availability, you might stay in an equally charming Swiss town nestled in the Alps, such as Martigny.
Day 7 - Leysin - Interlaken - Lucerne - Zurich
Prepare yourself for a day of breathtaking alpine beauty. We'll begin our ascent to Glacier 3000 by cable car, a marvel in Switzerland offering spectacular views of year-round ice and snow. Here, you can walk across the suspended bridge linking two mountain peaks, visit the enchanting Ice Cathedral, or indulge in the thrills at the Fun Park. After soaking in the awe-inspiring scenery, well pause in Interlaken for lunch, where you can admire the stunning mountain backdrop. Our adventure continues to Lucerne, renowned for its picturesque setting and rich history, before we make our way to Zurich. Explore Zurichs vibrant city centre in the evening, unwinding in this lively Swiss city before resting at the hotel. Please note that should weather conditions close the Glacier 3000 cable car, we will ensure an equally captivating alpine experience.
Day 8 - Zurich - Bellinzona - Como - Milan
Our journey on day eight begins with an early departure from Zurich as we make our way across the majestic Alps to reach the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland. Our first destination is the historic city of Bellinzona, famed for its three striking medieval castles. These UNESCO World Heritage Sites, perched dramatically above the city, were crucial in Bellinzonas role as a strategic alpine stronghold. Youll have some free time to wander through the atmospheric streets of its charming centre.After exploring Bellinzona, well cross the border into Italy and arrive in the delightful town of Como for a lunch break. Nestled in Lombardy, Como is celebrated for its stunning lakeside gardens and impressive cathedral. Post-lunch, we continue to Milan. Our guide will lead us to the breathtaking Piazza del Duomo, where youll also have some time to relish the surrounding area before we settle into our hotel for the night.
Day 9 - Milan - Pisa - Rome
We'll embark on a journey to Pisa today, where you'll have the chance to marvel at the Piazza dei Miracoli also known as the Square of Miracles. From there, you can explore one of Italy's most captivating art complexes, featuring the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa. After taking in the sights, we'll continue our travels to Rome, arriving later in the day.
Day 10 - Rome
In the morning, we'll embark on a comprehensive three-hour guided exploration of Rome, often hailed as the Eternal City due to its profound historical and cultural significance. Our tour combines a stroll through Imperial Rome with a panoramic bus ride, offering you a glimpse into one of the oldest and most influential cities in Western civilisation. During our exploration, we'll encounter iconic landmarks, including the Arch of Constantine, the exterior of the Colosseum, and the Imperial Forums. We will then make our way to the historic city centre, providing some free time for you to enjoy lunch before continuing with a guided walking tour.
