Day 1 - Madrid - Granada
On the first day of our journey, we will set off from Madrid early in the morning, travelling south through the renowned region of La Mancha. Our initial stop is in Puerto Lpice, a quaint village that beautifully captures the spirit of Don Quixote. As we venture onwards into Andalusia via the scenic Despeaperros pass, we will reach the historic city of Granada. Here, you can relish a delicious lunch that is included with your tour. In the afternoon, for those who have opted for the Alhambra visit, we will explore the stunning Alhambra Palace and its serene Generalife Gardens, both remarkable examples of architecture from the Arab period, with insights from a knowledgeable local guide. Please note, access to the Alhambra is strictly controlled, and tickets are issued upon confirming your reservation. It is essential to provide precise personal details, including your full name and passport or ID number, at the time of booking. Be aware that ticket costs are non-refundable in the event of cancellation. In the unlikely event that a visit to the Alhambra is not possible, an equally enriching tour of the Royal Alczar of Seville will be arranged, offering similar historical significance. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Granada - Malaga - Marbella - Ronda - Seville
Departing from Granada, we make our way to the sunny Costa del Sol, starting with a visit to Malaga. Here, youll have the chance to wander through its historic district, renowned for its cathedral and the Picasso Museum. After exploring Malaga, we continue along the coastal highway, where you'll enjoy breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea. Our journey leads us to Puerto Bans in Marbella, a chic and elegant marina famous for its luxury yachts and stylish atmosphere. In the afternoon, we venture into the mountains, immersing ourselves in tales of infamous bandits, before reaching Ronda. This picturesque white town is dramatically set on a cliffside, split by a deep canyon. As the evening sets in, we arrive in Seville, where a delightful dinner awaits you at the hotel.
Day 3 - Seville
Today, we start our adventure in Seville with a guided city tour, where we will explore the magnificent cathedral featuring the renowned Giralda tower. As we traverse the city, we'll pass by the graceful Guadalquivir River and delve into the vibrant neighbourhoods of Santa Cruz and Triana, rich in character and history. Afterwards, we will relax on a delightful boat ride along the Guadalquivir, providing you with unbeatable panoramic views of the cityscape. In the evening, you have the option to immerse yourself in the local culture by attending a captivating flamenco performance at a traditional tablao.
Day 4 - Seville - Merida - Evora
Departing Seville, we will traverse scenic landscapes with gentle hills and expansive pastures as we journey towards Extremadura. Our first stop is Mrida, where you can explore the Archaeological Ensemble, including the well-preserved Roman Theatre and Amphitheatre both recognised as World Heritage Sites. You'll have time to enjoy lunch and stroll through Mrida's vibrant pedestrian centre, bustling with eateries. Continuing our journey, we cross into Portugal, arriving in vora. Known for its striking whitewashed streets, Renaissance palaces, and grand cathedral, vora is another UNESCO-listed city. There's ample free time for you to wander and soak in the historic charm of this delightful city.
Day 5 - Evora - Marvo - Castelo de Vide - Tomar - Fatima
Today, we'll traverse the scenic landscapes of the Alentejo region. Our first stop is Marvo, a charming walled town offering spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Following this, we'll explore Castelo de Vide, home to an impressive castle and a historic Jewish quarter. Here, we can visit the medieval synagogue, now a museum, or enjoy a leisurely walk through the town's winding streets.After lunch, our journey continues to Tomar, a city famed for its Convent of Christ. This former castle-convent once belonged to the Order of the Templars, and admission is included. Before reaching Ftima, we'll pause in Aljustrel, the birthplace of the three young shepherds who witnessed the apparitions of the Virgin Mary. We'll have the chance to visit Lucias house.Upon arrival in Ftima, you'll have free time at the Sanctuary of Ftima, where you may wish to attend the candlelight procession, available outside of the winter months. Dinner is included, providing a perfect end to a day rich in history and culture.
Day 6 - Fatima - Porto
On day six, we'll journey to the northern part of Portugal, arriving in the vibrant city of Porto, the country's second-largest city, by approximately 11:00 a.m. After our arrival, we'll take an enchanting 50-minute cruise along the Douro River aboard a traditional Portuguese Rabelo boat. This unique experience will provide us with wonderful views of Porto's beautiful riverside architecture. Following the cruise, you'll have free time to explore the lively Ribeira district. Stroll through its narrow streets, which are lined with historic merchant houses and quaint cafs, before we make our way to the hotel later in the day.
Day 7 - Porto - Braga - Guimares - Bom Jesus - Pinho - Coimbra
Today, well delve into the picturesque landscapes of northern Portugal. Our journey begins in Braga, often referred to as the religious heart of Portugal, where well explore its historic cathedral. We then ascend to the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus using the worlds oldest cable car, offering us stunning views. For those who wish, descending via the grand staircase is a recommended experience.Next, we proceed to Guimares, recognised as Portugal's first capital, to visit the splendid Palace of the Dukes. Following lunch among the scenic vineyards, we descend into the enchanting Douro Valley. Passing through Sabrosa, known as the birthplace of the explorer Magellan, we stop at the charming train station in Pinho, famous for its traditional tiled decoration. Here, well enjoy a leisurely one-hour cruise along the Douro River, revealing the areas great natural beauty. From November to March, when the cruise is unavailable, we will instead embark on a scenic drive with stops at viewpoints overlooking the river.We conclude the day by continuing to Coimbra, where well arrive by evening. Dinner is included, providing a delightful end to an enriching day.
Day 8 - Coimbra - Batalha - Nazare - Obidos - Lisbon
Today, well start by exploring Coimbra, the third largest city in Portugal, famed for its historic university and picturesque, steep streets. From here, we continue south to visit the remarkable Batalha Monastery, a medieval mausoleum for Portuguese royalty entrance is included. After immersing yourself in the architectural beauty, enjoy a leisurely lunch and a stroll in Nazar, a charming fishing village and popular seaside resort. Well ascend to Nazar's old town by elevator (tickets included) for sweeping ocean views.As we journey towards Lisbon, we'll pause in bidos, a town renowned for its picturesque whitewashed streets adorned with vibrant flowers. We plan to reach Lisbon by around 7:30 p.m., concluding a day filled with exploring some of Portugal's most enchanting locations.
Day 9 - Lisbon
Today, we set off on an enthralling journey through Lisbon, a city renowned for its seven hills, quaint alleys, and iconic decorative tiles. As we meander through the streets, youll experience the unique ambiance of saudade a nostalgic longing that is deeply embedded in Portuguese culture under Lisbons enchanting Atlantic light. Our morning includes a visit to the Belem district, a historic area from where intrepid Portuguese explorers once embarked on their oceanic voyages in the 15th century.The afternoon is yours to explore further. We suggest visiting the Bairro Alto, known for its vibrant atmosphere and splendid viewpoint. Alternatively, you might consider an optional excursion to the picturesque towns of Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril. In the evening, absorb the lively spirit at Restauradores Square, brimming with bustling bars and cafs, before we return to the hotel.
Day 10 - Lisbon
On the final day of our tour, as you enjoy breakfast, our shared journey will conclude. Reflect on the wonderful experiences and lasting memories you've gained throughout your travels. Safe onward journey!
