Day 1 - Madrid
Welcome to Madrid! Upon your arrival at the airport, we will be ready to transfer you to your hotel. You'll have some free time to relax until the tour officially begins. To get acquainted with your guide and fellow travellers, please check the information signs in the hotel reception for details about the welcome meeting. Later in the evening, we will provide a transfer to the lively Plaza Mayor and La Latina, renowned for their vibrant nightlife and enticing selection of tapas restaurants. You may choose to dine at a restaurant of your preference, with options including Indian, Chinese, Spanish, and Middle Eastern cuisines. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Madrid
On day two, we begin with an in-depth exploration of central Madrid. Our tour showcases the city's iconic landmarks, including the Paseo del Prado, Cibeles Fountain, Neptune Fountain, the grand Puerta de Alcal, Plaza de Coln, and the bustling Plaza Mayor. Following our city tour, we take a leisurely stroll through Retiro Park, Madrid's beautiful green haven, where we'll admire both the tranquil lake and the stunning Palacio de Cristal. Our morning culminates with a visit to the revered Santiago Bernabu Stadium, home to the legendary Real Madrid football club, where entry is included as part of our tour. The afternoon is yours to spend as you pleaserelax, explore further, or perhaps discover more of Madrid's charms at your own pace. As the day winds down, we'll provide convenient transport back to your hotel, allowing you time to reflect on your experiences in this vibrant city.
Day 3 - Madrid - Granada
On the third day of our journey, we will set off early from Madrid, heading south through the historic region of La Mancha. Our first stop is Puerto Lpice, a picturesque village that conjures images of the legendary Don Quixote. From there, we'll travel onward to Andalusia, passing through the Despeaperros gorge. Our destination is Granada, where we will have lunch upon arrival. In the afternoon, those who have opted to visit the Alhambra will discover this magnificent palace and its enchanting Generalife Gardens, which date back to the Arab period, accompanied by a knowledgeable local guide. Its crucial to note that visitor numbers are carefully controlled at the Alhambra, necessitating advance ticket purchase with precise personal details provided at booking. Please be aware that tickets are non-refundable. In extraordinary cases where the Alhambra visit is not feasible, an equally enriching tour of the Royal Alczar of Seville will be arranged instead.
Day 4 - Granada - Tangier - Asilah - Rabat
Leaving Granada behind, we journey along the scenic Costa del Sol to Algeciras or Tarifa, where we board a modern ferry to Morocco. During the ferry crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar, you'll need to manage your own luggage as the bus stays behind. On arrival in Morocco, we traverse the captivating landscapes, making our first stop in Asilah. This charming, fortified town on the Atlantic coast was once a prolific port and pirate haven, now thriving with activity. You'll have some time to enjoy lunch here before we continue our journey to Rabat. Upon reaching Rabat, a delightful dinner awaits us, ending an exciting day of travel.
Day 5 - Rabat - Casablanca - Marrakech
Our day begins with a panoramic tour of Rabat, where you'll discover the grandeur of the Royal Palace, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the imposing Kasbah of the Udayas. Around midday, we'll set off for Casablanca, where a local guide will lead us on a brief city tour. Here, you'll have the opportunity to view the exterior of the splendid Hassan II Mosque, one of the world's most significant mosques. Our journey then continues to Marrakech. Upon arrival at our hotel, you'll have the chance to enjoy a traditional Kalesa ride, leading you to the vibrant Jemaa el-Fnaa square. A delightful dinner is included, allowing you to savour the local flavours.
Day 6 - Marrakech
Today, we will delve into the captivating city of Marrakech, a place renowned for its vibrant history and rich cultural tapestry. Our city tour will guide you through its ancient walls and lively spots such as the bustling Jemaa el-Fnaa square, the historic Medina, and the iconic Koutoubia Mosque. We'll also visit the exquisite Bahia Palace, with all entrance fees covered. After our tour, you'll have the freedom to enjoy an included lunch and choose how to spend your afternoon. Perhaps unwind by the hotel pool or in the garden, or dive into the lively souks for a bit of shopping. As the day winds down, there's an opportunity to experience the enchanting Fantasy Party, an optional evening event that promises a memorable night.
Day 7 - Marrakech - Ait Benhadou - Ouarzazate - Boumalne Dades
We will embark on a breathtaking journey across the Atlas Mountains, where snow-capped peaks provide a stunning backdrop as we leave behind the lush palm groves of Marrakech. As you admire the rugged beauty, you'll catch glimpses of quaint Berber villages perched along deep gorges. Our travels include a visit to the fortified village of Ait Benhaddou, famous as a filming location for many renowned movies. Travelling through landscapes reminiscent of ancient times, we'll arrive in Ouarzazate, famed for its impressive Kasbah. Our journey then continues through the Valley of Roses, culminating in our arrival at Boumalne Dades, where we will enjoy a delightful dinner. Please note that winter conditions may sometimes lead to road closures; if this occurs, we will adjust the itinerary accordingly. Access to the Sahara Desert is dependent on road conditions.
Day 8 - Boumalne Dades - Todgha - Erfoud
As we set off from Boumalne Dades, our adventure today takes us through the mesmerising Sahara Desert. Our travels will lead us through the Valley of the Kasbahs, with its waving palm trees bordering the river valleys, and across expansive rocky plains transitioning into verdant oases and adobe villages. You will also encounter impressive fortresses that once safeguarded ancient trading routes. A highlight of our day will be the visit to the stunning Todgha Gorge, where the towering canyon walls rise over 100 metres on either side, offering a spectacular sight. Our journey includes a stop in a small adobe town near Khorbat, where you can immerse yourself in the life of the local desert community supported by a foundation (note that access might be weather-dependent). Well continue to Erfoud, where you will have the opportunity to indulge in an exciting off-road excursion to the sand dunes of the Sahara Desert, providing an unforgettable sunset view. Today's travel also includes lunch, allowing you to savour local flavours.
Day 9 - Erfoud - Fez
Departing early from Erfoud, we'll make our way through the Atlas Mountains, experiencing their dramatic gorges and awe-inspiring landscapes. Our journey takes us across a high plateau where nomadic shepherds dwell. We'll pause at Midelt, a significant agricultural hub in the region, for a brief look around before continuing. Lunch is included today as we stop amidst the natural beauty of the Middle Atlas, by a picturesque lake. As we proceed, the scenery transforms dramatically, leading us into a lush forested area where snow often graces the ground in winter.Our next stop is near Azrou in a national park, where we'll visit the "House of Cedars." This small museum offers insights into the area's natural history. Be prepared to meet some lively colonies of local monkeys during our visit. Onwards to Bhalil, a quaint town in the Middle Atlas, known for its colourful streets and unique cave houses integrated into the architecture. We'll continue to Fez, where, before settling into our hotel, we'll enjoy sweeping views of the ancient city from the Marinid Tombs. Dinner will be provided.
Day 10 - Fez - Tangier
Today, we delve into the heart of Fez, entering the city through the impressive Bronze Gates of the Royal Palace. Our exploration includes the vibrant Jewish quarter, bustling souks, and the historic Tanners' Quarter, each offering a glimpse into the rich cultural tapestry of Morocco's cultural capital. The Medina of Fez holds a special place, preserving the traditional Arab essence with unmatched authenticity. Our tour concludes with a delightful lunch at a historic palace nestled within the Medina, allowing you to savour the local flavours and ambience. In the afternoon, we make our way northward along Morocco's modern highways, enjoying the changing landscapes en route to Tangier. By evening, we'll arrive in this historic port city, where we will be treated to a delicious dinner.
Day 11 - Tangier - Seville
In Tangier, enjoy some free time for any last-minute shopping before we make our way back to Spain by ferry. As before, the bus will not be accompanying us on the ferry, so please remember to bring your luggage on board. We'll reach either Algeciras or Tarifa upon our return and continue our journey towards Seville. Upon arrival in the evening, a delightful dinner will be provided.
Day 12 - Seville
In the morning, we will set off on a guided tour of Seville, where you will have the opportunity to admire the grandeur of the Cathedral, famed for its iconic Giralda tower. As we stroll along the banks of the Guadalquivir River, you will be introduced to the vibrant districts of Santa Cruz and Triana, each offering their own unique charm. Following the tour, you can unwind on a scenic boat cruise along the Guadalquivir, providing stunning views of the cityscape. In the evening, you have the option to experience the passionate art of flamenco at a local tablao an unforgettable cultural experience.
Day 13 - Seville - Merida - Evora - Lisbon
Today, we leave Seville, travelling through picturesque landscapes of rolling hills and wide pasturelands as we journey towards Extremadura. Our first stop is in Mrida, where we include a visit to the Archaeological Ensemble of Mrida. This site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is famed for its well-preserved Roman Theatre and Amphitheatre. You'll have time to enjoy lunch and wander through the lively pedestrian area of the historic centre, filled with inviting restaurants and local charm. Following this, we continue on to Portugal, arriving in vora. Also a World Heritage Site, vora captivates with its whitewashed streets, Renaissance palaces, and grand cathedral. We aim to arrive in Lisbon by evening.
Day 14 - Lisbon
On the morning of Day 14, we will set off on a guided tour to explore the captivating city of Lisbon, often referred to as the city of the seven hills. The tour will provide a glimpse into the citys unique charm, characterised by its quaint alleyways, iconic tilework, and the distinctive feeling of "saudade"all illuminated by the stunning Atlantic light. Our itinerary includes a visit to the historic Belm neighbourhood, well-known as the departure point for Portugal's great navigators of the 15th century as they set off to explore new worlds. The afternoon offers you the freedom to roam at your own pace, with an opportunity to explore the vibrant Bairro Alto area and take in the panoramic views from its renowned viewpoints. If you wish, there is also an option to join a trip visiting Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril, some of the region's most intriguing destinations. As the day winds down, we will regroup and return to our hotel from Restauradores Square, a lively hub brimming with lively bars and cafs, perfect for soaking up the local atmosphere.
Day 15 - Lisbon - Fatima - Porto
Today, we'll venture north through Portugal to visit Ftima, a site of profound spiritual significance, renowned as one of the world's major Catholic pilgrimage destinations. Afterward, we'll continue our journey to Porto, the vibrant second-largest city in the country. Upon arrival, we'll pause for lunch before embarking on a 50-minute river cruise along the Douro, aboard a traditional "Rabelo" boat. This excursion provides an excellent vantage point to admire the citys stunning waterfront. After the cruise, you'll have some free time to wander through Porto's medieval Ribeira district, known for its intricate web of narrow streets, historic merchant houses, and delightful cafs. In the evening, we'll proceed to check in at our hotel.
Day 16 - Porto - Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary - Cambados - Santiago de Compostela
Our day begins with a scenic journey through lush landscapes as we head towards Braga. Here, we'll experience a ride on the world's oldest water-powered funicular, taking us to the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus. The sanctuary not only offers breathtaking views but also features a magnificent baroque staircase. Consider taking some time to descend this beautiful stairway, taking in its intricate design.We then travel to Galicia, arriving in the historic town of Cambados, located in the picturesque Ras Baixas region. Here, we'll embark on a fascinating glass-bottom boat trip along the Ra de Arousa, offering insight into the area's mussel and oyster cultivation. You'll enjoy a tasting of local wine and fresh mussels onboard, enhancing the experience of this unique maritime culture.As the day progresses, our destination is the city of Santiago de Compostela, steeped in history as a major pilgrimage site since the medieval era. A local guide will lead us on a tour of the city, revealing its charming medieval streets and significant cultural landmarks. With its rich past and vibrant atmosphere, Santiago de Compostela offers a perfect blend of historical exploration and modern-day appeal.
Day 17 - Santiago de Compostela - Lugo - O Cebreiro - Leon - Madrid
Today, we'll embark on a journey along the historic Way of St. James, beginning with a stop in the ancient town of Lugo. Here, you'll have the chance to explore the well-preserved old town and the Roman Walls of Lugo, a remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our route then takes us to O Cebreiro, a quaint stone village in the heart of Galicia, offering a glimpse into the region's traditional architecture.By midday, we'll reach the city of Len, where we will visit its magnificent Gothic cathedral, famed for its stunning stained-glass windows that paint the interior with vibrant colours. Afterward, you'll have some free time to meander through the charming historic centre at your leisure.We'll depart Len around 5:00 p.m. and aim to arrive in Madrid by approximately 9:00 p.m. Please note that the journey from Len to Madrid may be by train or coach, depending on the size of the group.
Day 18 - Madrid
After breakfast, our journey concludes, leaving you with cherished memories of your travels.
