Day 1 - Madrid
Welcome to your tour in Madrid! Upon arrival, we'll provide a transfer to your hotel, allowing for a smooth start to your adventure. You'll have some free time to explore the city at your own pace and perhaps enjoy a leisurely stroll through Madrid's vibrant streets or relax at a local caf. Later in the afternoon, you'll find essential information about the commencement of your tour displayed on the boards at the hotel's reception area, ensuring you are well-prepared for the upcoming days. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Madrid - Leon - Oviedo
We set off early in the morning, leaving Madrid behind as we cross the region of Castile and Len. Our first stop is Tordesillas, where we'll enjoy a coffee in the heart of this town, steeped in history. Our journey continues to the city of Len, a key site on the Camino de Santiago, featuring a stunning Gothic cathedral renowned for its impressive architecture. Here, you'll have time for lunch and to explore at your leisure.After Len, we continue our journey across the Cantabrian Range, heading into the lush region of Asturias. Our day concludes in Oviedo, where we'll take a one-and-a-half-hour guided tour of the city. During this tour, which might take place this evening or the following morning, we will visit Oviedo's 9th-century cathedral, the modern Congress Palace, the Campoamor Theatre, and stroll along the vibrant Calle Ra. To round off your day, we'll enjoy a traditional Asturian dinner at a typical cider house, an experience sure to delight your taste buds.Please note, if the number of travellers from Madrid to Len is quite small, the journey may be undertaken by train or regular transport, and we might not be able to stop in Tordesillas.
Day 3 - Oviedo - Covadonga - Santillana del Mar - Santander
On the third day, our adventure takes us to the stunning landscapes of the Picos de Europa. Our first stop is the impressive Basilica of Covadonga, nestled in a picturesque setting. From here, we journey along the scenic coastline to Santillana del Mar, acclaimed as one of Spains most beautiful towns for its well-preserved medieval quarter. During our stay, we will visit the Altamira Cave Museum, where your tickets have already been arranged. As the day progresses, we head towards Santander, the capital of the region. This elegant coastal city, with its blend of mountain and sea views, offers an inviting panorama. A guided tour of Santander will reveal the citys charm and its captivating bay.
Day 4 - Santander - Bilbao - Foronda Service Area - La Rioja - Zaragoza
Today, we will journey along the picturesque Cantabrian coast, where the mountains dramatically meet the sea. Our destination is Bilbao, the vibrant capital of the Basque Country. Here, we will enjoy a guided tour, taking in notable sights such as the Guggenheim district, the charming old town, and the impressive Cathedral. Following the tour, you'll have free time to indulge in Bilbao's renowned pintxos, savoury and inventive Basque-style tapas. Our adventure continues as we head towards La Rioja, a region celebrated for its exceptional wines. We will explore the Wine Culture Museum in Briones, where you can deepen your appreciation for the age-old craft of winemaking. As evening falls, we will arrive in Zaragoza, concluding a day filled with cultural and culinary delights.
Day 5 - Zaragoza - Poblet - Barcelona
On the fifth day of our journey, we'll embark on a morning panoramic tour of Zaragoza, guided by a local expert. Our first stop is the magnificent Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar. We'll then explore the artistic legacy of the renowned painter Goya, viewing some of his masterpieces. Continuing our exploration, we'll visit the Roman theatre and a Renaissance palace before taking a leisurely stroll around the impressive Aljafera Palace. After lunch, we'll head towards Catalonia to marvel at the Poblet Abbeya beautifully preserved medieval monastery nestled amid stunning scenery, with entrance tickets included. Our day concludes with an evening arrival in the vibrant city of Barcelona.
Day 6 - Barcelona
Our day in Barcelona begins with a panoramic tour of this captivating city, regarded as one of Europe's most intriguing capitals. Situated along the Mediterranean coastline, Barcelona is celebrated for its vibrant blend of past and contemporary allure. We will explore the visionary works of Antoni Gaud, the lively atmosphere of Las Ramblas, and the city's distinguished history, marked by events such as the Universal Exposition and the Olympic Games. In the afternoon, you will have free time to immerse yourself further in the dynamic culture or relax at your leisure. As evening falls, we will provide a transfer to Maremagnum, a modern hub of entertainment and dining located splendidly by the sea near Plaza de Coln. Here, you can wander through the bustling area and enjoy a diverse selection of dining options.
Day 7 - Barcelona - Peniscola - Valencia
Today, we will journey south along the Mediterranean coast, stopping at the enchanting town of Pescola. Renowned for its medieval walls and idyllic beaches, this picturesque spot invites you to wander and explore its charming streets. Our next destination is Valencia, where we will arrive around lunchtime. In the afternoon, enjoy an insightful tour with a local guide who will reveal the city's rich tapestry of history spanning over two millennia. Marvel at the harmonious blend of monuments from various eras alongside the striking modern architecture of the City of Arts and Sciences. After our guided tour, you'll have free time to delve further into the city at your own pace. Day 8 - Valencia - Alicante - Caravaca de la Cruz - Granada
On the eighth day of our journey, we head towards the delightful coastal city of Alicante. Here, you will have ample time to explore and enjoy a leisurely walk along the scenic coastline, taking in the refreshing sea air and vibrant atmosphere. Post-lunch, we proceed to the region of Murcia to visit Caravaca de la Cruz, acknowledged as a Holy City by the Roman Catholic Church. Its church is renowned for housing a sacred relic of the Cross. We'll enhance our visit with a ride on a tourist train, taking you through the rich history of this area. Following this, we embark on a picturesque drive through beautiful landscapes as we venture into Andalusia. The day concludes in the lively city of Granada, where a delightful dinner awaits.
Day 9 - Granada
We spend a full day in Granada, where, if your tour includes tickets, we explore the iconic Alhambra Palace and the enchanting Generalife Gardens, both stunning examples of Arab architecture. These sites are steeped in history, offering a glimpse into the region's past. In the afternoon, you have the freedom to wander through the city and visit the cathedral, known for housing the tombs of the Catholic Monarchs. It's important to note that access to the Alhambra is strictly regulated, so tickets are secured at the time of booking to ensure your visit. Please provide accurate personal details when you book, as tickets are non-refundable. In the rare event that visiting the Alhambra is not possible, we will instead explore the Royal Alczar of Seville, which is equally rich in historical and architectural significance.
Day 10 - Granada - Malaga - Marbella - Ronda - Seville
We depart from Granada and make our way to the famed Costa del Sol. Our first stop is Malaga, where you'll have the opportunity to wander through its historic district, home to the impressive cathedral and the renowned Picasso Museum. We then continue along the coastal highway, offering scenic views of the Mediterranean, until we reach Puerto Bans in Marbella, renowned for its upscale recreational harbour. In the afternoon, we journey through the mountains, where you'll hear tales of legendary bandits, before arriving at the picturesque town of Ronda. This charming white town is famed for its dramatic cliffside position and the deep canyon that splits it. Our day concludes with an evening arrival in Seville, where dinner awaits at your hotel.
Day 11 - Seville
Today we embark on an exploration of the vibrant city of Seville. Our morning begins with a guided city tour showcasing some of its most captivating sites. You'll visit the magnificent Seville Cathedral, famous for its iconic Giralda tower, and admire the views along the Guadalquivir River. Well also wander through the characterful neighbourhoods of Santa Cruz and Triana, each offering a glimpse into the city's rich cultural tapestry. Following the tour, we'll enjoy a leisurely boat ride on the Guadalquivir River, providing a fresh perspective of the citys stunning architecture and bustling life along its banks. In the evening, why not immerse yourself in the passionate world of flamenco at a traditional tablao? Its a wonderful way to experience the soul of Andalusian culture.
Day 12 - Seville - Merida - Evora - Lisbon
We depart from Seville, travelling through the picturesque landscapes of rolling hills and expansive pasturelands as we make our way towards Extremadura. In Mrida, we have included admission to the remarkable Archaeological Ensemble of Mrida, home to a well-preserved Roman Theatre and Amphitheatre, a site celebrated for its World Heritage status. You'll have time to enjoy lunch and take a leisurely stroll through the historic centre, rich with local restaurants and vibrant atmosphere. Our journey continues as we cross the border into Portugal, with a stop in vora also a World Heritage Site. This charming town is noted for its whitewashed streets, Renaissance palaces, and impressive cathedral. We'll arrive in Lisbon in the evening, ready for the next leg of our adventure.
Day 13 - Lisbon
On the thirteenth day of our journey, we are set to discover the captivating city of Lisbon. We will embark on a morning tour through Portugal's enchanting capital, famously set upon seven hills. As we wind through its delightful streets and vibrant alleys, expect to encounter Lisbons iconic tiles and absorb the unique atmosphere imbued with a sense of "saudade" and illuminated by beautiful Atlantic light. Our route will take us to the historic Belm neighbourhood, the departure point for the great Portuguese explorers of the 15th century. You will have the afternoon free to further explore the city at your own pace. We suggest a visit to the Bairro Alto district for its splendid viewpoints or, if you're interested, an optional trip to the picturesque towns of Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril. As evening descends, we'll meet back at the lively Restauradores Square, teeming with vibrant bars and cafes, before heading back to our hotel.
Day 14 - Lisbon
Following breakfast, we bid farewell to our journey. As this incredible adventure concludes, we hope you carry back home fond memories of the places we've explored together.
