Day 1 - Lisbon
Upon your arrival in Lisbon, we'll arrange a transfer to your hotel, where you can settle in and unwind. Youll have some free time to explore the vibrant city at your leisure. In the afternoon, be sure to check the hotel reception for information about the beginning of our tour. Take this opportunity to acquaint yourself with the Portuguese capital, renowned for its unique charm and spectacular light. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Lisbon
On the second day of our tour, we begin with a morning exploration of Lisbon, the enchanting capital of Portugal. Known as the city of seven hills, Lisbon invites us to wander its delightful alleys adorned with traditional tiles, evoking the distinct sentiment of "saudade" under the captivating Atlantic light. Our tour includes a visit to the historical Belem neighbourhood, a significant site from where 15th-century Portuguese navigators embarked on ocean crossings. The afternoon is yours to enjoy as you wish. We suggest taking a stroll to Bairro Alto for its panoramic views. Alternatively, you might choose to explore further by joining an optional excursion to the picturesque towns of Sintra, Cascais and Estoril. In the evening, we regroup and make our way back to the hotel from the animated Restauradores Square, a lively area teeming with bustling bars and cafes.
Day 3 - Lisbon - Lagos - Cape St. Vincent - Albufeira
Today, we depart early for the scenic drive southwards, crossing the expansive bridge over the Tagus River. Our destination is the Algarve, famed for its charming coastal beauty. On arrival, we explore Lagos, a historic city where Portuguese adventurers once set sail for Brazil. Its delightful centre remains enclosed within ancient walls, perfect for a leisurely walk and a spot of lunch.In the afternoon, we'll journey to Cape St. Vincent, the westernmost point of continental Europe, characterized by rugged cliffs and sweeping views. Nearby, you can capture the striking Sagres fortress with your camera, a site rich in seafaring history. Later, we'll travel to Albufeira, a picturesque coastal city. Here, you can unwind on its sandy beaches or explore the bustling historic centre. We will stay overnight either in Albufeira or a nearby city within the stunning Algarve region.
Day 4 - Albufeira - Mrtola - Evora
Today, we embark on a journey to Faro, a serene city in the Algarve. Enjoy a peaceful stroll through its streets, soaking in the tranquil atmosphere. Our adventure continues as we head into the Alentejo region. On the banks of the Guadiana River lies Mrtola, a fascinating walled town with a rich history dating back to the Muslim era. Here, the large castle overlooks streets adorned with whitewashed houses and historical corners inviting exploration. Next, we move on to vora, where we visit the eerie yet captivating Chapel of Bones, constructed from over 5,000 skeletons (admission included). We then delve into the charm of this walled city, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. vora boasts stunning medieval palaces, Gothic religious edifices, and the remnants of an ancient Roman temple, offering a glimpse into its illustrious past.
Day 5 - Evora - Marvo - Castelo de Vide - Tomar - Fatima
Today, we journey through the picturesque landscapes of the Alentejo region, making our first stop in Marvo. This charming walled town offers fantastic panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. From there, we continue to Castelo de Vide, where you'll have the chance to explore the impressive castle as well as meander through the old Jewish quarter. Here, you can visit the medieval synagogue, now a museum, or simply lose yourself in the town's winding streets. After a spot of lunch, we proceed to Tomar, a city renowned for the Convent of Christ. This former castle-convent played a key role in the history of the Order of the Templars, and admission is included. Before reaching Ftima, we'll visit Aljustrel, the birthplace of the three young shepherds who famously witnessed the apparitions of the Virgin Mary. Well see the house of Lucia, one of the young shepherds. In Ftima, youll have some free time to explore the sanctuary at your leisure, and if you wish, participate in the candlelight procession (not held in winter). Dinner is included tonight.
Day 6 - Fatima - Porto
We'll head north to Porto, Portugal's vibrant second-largest city, arriving around 11:00 a.m. Upon arrival, we'll take a 50-minute cruise along the Douro River aboard a traditional 'Rabelo' boat, which offers a unique vantage point of Porto's picturesque riverside. Following this, you'll have leisure time to explore Portos lively Ribeira district, renowned for its narrow streets bordered by historic merchant houses and cosy cafs. Later, you'll return to the hotel for the evening.
Day 7 - Porto - Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary - Cambados - Santiago de Compostela
On our seventh day, we journey through some of the most picturesque landscapes, starting with a visit to Braga. Here, youll have the thrilling experience of riding the worlds oldest water-operated cable car to reach the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus, offering truly breathtaking views. After exploring the sanctuary, its worth descending via its charming staircase. Our adventure continues into Galicia, where we visit the historic town of Cambados in the Ras Baixas region. Well embark on a glass-bottom boat tour along the Ra de Arousa, gaining insights into the local mussel and oyster production. While onboard, indulge in a wine and mussel tasting. Come lunchtime, we will arrive in Santiago de Compostela, where a local guide will lead us on a tour through its medieval streets and famed pilgrimage sites, steeped in history from the Middle Ages.
Day 8 - Santiago de Compostela - Lugo - O Cebreiro - Leon - Oviedo
On day eight, we embark on a journey along the Way of St. James, starting with a visit to Lugo. Youll have the chance to explore the historic town centre and marvel at its impressive Roman walls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We then proceed to O Cebreiro, a charming village known for its traditional Galician stone architecture. Our next stop is Len, where well arrive around lunchtime. Here, well visit the magnificent Gothic cathedral, celebrated for its remarkable stained-glass windows, and enjoy a stroll through the historic town centre. Crossing the Cantabrian Range, we make our way to Asturias, reaching Oviedo by early evening. A guided tour will introduce us to Oviedos highlights, including the 9th-century cathedral, the Calatrava Congress Palace, Campoamor Theatre, and Calle de la Rua. We cap off the day with a traditional Asturian dinner at a local cider house.
Day 9 - Oviedo - Covadonga - Santillana del Mar - Santander
Today, we set off to explore the stunning Picos de Europa, beginning with a visit to the Basilica of Covadonga. Nestled amidst the mountains, this site holds significant historical and cultural importance. From there, our journey leads us along the picturesque northern coast to Santillana del Mar, often hailed as one of Spains most enchanting towns, with its perfectly preserved medieval architecture. We will also have the chance to explore the Altamira Cave Museum tickets are included offering a glimpse into the prehistoric artistry of ancient inhabitants. Our day continues as we travel to Santander, the vibrant capital of the Cantabria region. Here, you'll enjoy a guided panoramic tour, highlighting the citys elegant architecture and stunning bay views. We'll take in the charm of this coastal city, with its unique blend of mountainous scenery and beautiful beaches.
Day 10 - Santander - Bilbao - Foronda Service Area - Madrid
Today, enjoy the captivating charm of Santander. This vibrant coastal city offers a mlange of natural beauty, with majestic mountain views framing its picturesque beaches. Use this day to explore at your own pace. Consider wandering through the elegant streets and visiting the Palacio de la Magdalena, or relaxing in one of the citys lush parks. Alternatively, you might indulge in local cuisine at a caf or restaurant, sampling the region's renowned seafood. Whether you choose to soak up the sights or the vibrant local culture, Santander promises a delightful blend of relaxation and exploration.
Day 11 - Madrid - Merida - Evora - Lisbon
Today, well depart from Madrid, setting our course for Mrida, the capital of Extremadura. Here, we'll explore the remarkable archaeological complex that includes the Roman Theatre and Amphitheatre, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites, celebrated for their impressive preservation. There will be ample time to enjoy lunch amidst the lively pedestrian historic centre, known for its vibrant atmosphere and numerous dining options. Our journey continues into Portugal, with a stop in vora. This city, also a World Heritage site, is renowned for its charming whitewashed streets, Renaissance palaces, and impressive cathedral. We aim to reach Lisbon by evening, where our day concludes.

After breakfast, our journey draws to a close, leaving you with wonderful memories of your adventure.
