Day 1 - Lisbon
Welcome to your journey in Lisbon! Upon arrival, well arrange your transfer to the hotel, affording you some free time to begin exploring this captivating city at your own pace. In the afternoon, make sure to check the information boards at the hotel reception, which will help you find details about the initiation of your tour. Enjoy your first day in the vibrant heart of Portugal, with its rich history and delightful ambience. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Lisbon
We begin the day with a captivating sightseeing tour of Lisbon, exploring its charming alleys and unique atmosphere under the beautiful Atlantic light. Known as the city of seven hills, Lisbon is famous for its iconic tiles and the evocative feeling of "saudade." Our tour includes a visit to the historic Belm neighbourhood, the departure point for Portuguese navigators who once set sail across the oceans in the 15th century. The afternoon is yours to enjoy. You might choose to wander through Bairro Alto, taking in the panoramic views from its viewpoint. For those interested in exploring further afield, there's an optional excursion to the enchanting towns of Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril. In the evening, we will gather at the lively Restauradores Square, abundant with vibrant bars and cafes, before returning to the hotel.
Day 3 - Lisbon - Lagos - Cape St. Vincent - Albufeira
On the third day, our journey takes us south to the captivating Algarve region, renowned for its stunning landscapes and historical charm. We begin our adventure early, crossing the impressive bridge over the Tagus River. Our first stop is the historic town of Lagos, a place once bustling with sailors who embarked for Brazil. Here, you can explore the charming old town, encircled by ancient walls, and enjoy lunch at your leisure.In the afternoon, we head to Cape St. Vincent, the westernmost point of continental Europe. Stand amidst the breathtaking, windswept cliffs and capture the moment with photographs of the historic Sagres fortress nearby. Later, we will spend time in Albufeira, a picturesque coastal city where you can unwind on the sandy beaches or wander through the vibrant historic centre. You'll be staying in Albufeira or a nearby city in the Algarve, allowing you to fully enjoy this beautiful coastal region.
Day 4 - Albufeira - Mrtola - Evora
Today, we begin our journey in Albufeira and make our way to Faro, a serene city in Portugal's Algarve region, perfect for a gentle stroll. After experiencing Faro's tranquillity, we set off for Mrtola in the Alentejo region. Set on the Guadiana River, Mrtola captivates with its walled town museum ambiance and the impressive remnants of its past, notably when it was a key centre during the Muslim era. The towns large castle beckons, inviting us to wander its streets, flanked by whitewashed houses and historical nooks.Our travels continue to vora, a city of immense historical significance. Here we visit the Chapel of Bones, a distinctive chapel that houses over 5,000 skeletons and offers a haunting insight into local history. vora itself, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, presents a captivating mix of medieval palaces, Gothic churches, and a Roman temple, all set within its ancient walls. This day provides a blend of peaceful reflection and historical exploration.
Day 5 - Evora - Marvo - Castelo de Vide - Tomar - Fatima
We will journey through the stunning Alentejo region with its picturesque landscapes, making our first stop in the charming walled town of Marvo. Here, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Our exploration continues as we visit Castelo de Vide, known for its impressive castle and historical Jewish quarter, where you can choose to explore the medieval synagogue, now a museum, or wander through the town's winding streets. After enjoying lunch, we'll proceed to Tomar to visit the renowned Convent of Christa magnificent former castle-convent that was once a stronghold of the Order of the Templars (admission included). Before reaching Ftima, we will pause in Aljustrel, the quaint village where the three young shepherds who reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary were born, offering a chance to visit Lucia's house. Upon arrival in Ftima, you'll have free time to explore the Sanctuary of Ftima. If you wish, you can witness the candlelight procession, though it is not available in winter. Dinner will be provided.
Day 6 - Fatima - Porto
Today, we journey north to Porto, Portugal's vibrant second city, aiming to arrive around 11:00 a.m. Upon our arrival, we'll embark on a 50-minute cruise along the Douro River aboard a traditional Portuguese Rabelo boat. This offers a unique perspective of the citys stunning riverfront and historic architecture. After the cruise, you'll have free time to explore the lively Ribeira district. This area is renowned for its narrow streets lined with historic merchant houses and quaint cafs, perfect for a leisurely afternoon before we proceed to the hotel.
Day 7 - Porto - Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary - Cambados - Santiago de Compostela
Today, we journey through breathtaking landscapes to reach Braga, where we will ride the world's oldest water-operated funicular to the Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary, offering stunning views. Once we've explored the sanctuary, we recommend descending via its charming staircase. Our adventure continues as we cross into Galicia, visiting the historic town of Cambados in the Ras Baixas region. Here, we'll enjoy a glass-bottom boat trip along the Ra de Arousa, gaining insight into mussel and oyster farming, and indulge in mussel and wine tasting on board. By lunchtime, we will arrive in Santiago de Compostela, where a local guide will lead us through its medieval streets and highlight the city's famous pilgrimage sites.
Day 8 - Santiago de Compostela - Lugo - O Cebreiro - Leon - Oviedo
Today, we journey along the historic Way of St. James, commencing in Lugo. Known for its remarkably preserved Roman walls, Lugo is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll have time to delve into the old town and marvel at these ancient fortifications. Our next stop is O Cebreiro, a picturesque Galician village characterised by its traditional stone houses. The tour continues as we head to Len, where well arrive by lunchtime. Here, we will visit the stunning Gothic cathedral, celebrated for its impressive stained-glass windows, before taking a leisurely stroll through the citys historic centre.Later, we cross the scenic Cantabrian Range, making our way into Asturias. By evening, we reach Oviedo, where a guided tour of the city awaits, either upon arrival or the following morning. The tour covers the 9th-century cathedral, the modern Calatrava Congressional Palace, the elegant Campoamor Theatre, and the vibrant Calle de la Rua. Wrapping up the day, you'll enjoy a traditional Asturian dinner, featuring local specialities, at a typical cider house.
Day 9 - Oviedo - Covadonga - Santillana del Mar - Santander
Our ninth day begins as we travel to the enchanting Picos de Europa, where we will visit the Basilica of Covadonga, set amidst stunning natural beauty. We then continue our journey along the coast to the picturesque town of Santillana del Mar, celebrated as one of Spain's most beautiful locales. Here, we'll explore its well-preserved medieval quarter, a delightful step back in time. Our exploration continues at the National Museum and Research Centre of Altamira, located nearby, where we've included your entry ticket. The day concludes with a visit to Santander, the capital of the region. This elegant city boasts breathtaking coastal views and delightful beaches. You'll join us on a panoramic city tour to discover Santanders charm and its picturesque bay. Please note that, during peak periods from July to mid-September, some groups might stay in Bilbao instead.
Day 10 - Santander - Bilbao - Foronda Service Area - La Rioja - Zaragoza
Today, we travel along the Cantabrian coast, where the mountains dramatically meet the sea, offering some of Spain's most stunning vistas. Our first stop is Bilbao, the largest city in the Basque Country. Here, we'll delve into the city's character on a brief guided tour, exploring notable sites such as the iconic Guggenheim Museum area, the atmospheric old quarter, and the impressive Cathedral. After the tour, you'll have some free time to experience the Basque tradition of "pintxos," a local culinary speciality. As our journey continues, we'll head into the renowned wine region of La Rioja. In Briones, we'll visit the Wine Culture Museum to gain insight into the region's ancient winemaking traditions. Our day concludes with an evening arrival in Zaragoza.
Day 11 - Zaragoza - Poblet - Barcelona
We begin the day with a guided panoramic tour of Zaragoza, led by a local expert. Our first destination is the renowned Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar. Next, we'll explore some of the masterpieces of the famous painter Goya. We continue the tour with a visit to the Roman theatre and a Renaissance palace, finishing with a leisurely walk by the Aljafera Palace. After lunch, we head for Catalonia to visit the magnificent Poblet Abbey, a beautifully set walled monastery considered one of the best-preserved of its kind worldwide access is included. Our journey concludes in Barcelona, where we'll arrive in the evening.
Day 12 - Barcelona
In the morning, we will set off on a panoramic tour of Barcelona, a city celebrated as one of Europe's most captivating capitals. This vibrant metropolis, nestled on the Mediterranean coast, is renowned for its iconic modernist architecture designed by Antoni Gaud, the lively atmosphere of Las Ramblas, and its storied history, showcased by landmarks from the 1888 Universal Exposition and the 1992 Olympics. In the afternoon, you will have the freedom to explore at your leisure. The evening holds a delightful transfer to Maremagnum, a modern entertainment and dining hub located by the sea near Plaza de Coln. Here, you can enjoy a casual evening, taking a stroll through the bustling area and selecting from a variety of dining options to suit your taste.
Day 13 - Barcelona - Peniscola - Valencia - Madrid
After departing from Barcelona, we head south along the Mediterranean coast and make a delightful stop in Pescola, a charming seaside town encircled by its historic walls, offering picturesque views and a chance to wander and take in the scenery. Our journey continues to Valencia, the vibrant city located on the coast of the Levante, where we expect to arrive around lunchtime. Valencia, known for its famous paella, invites you to savour this traditional dish. At approximately 16:30, we advance towards Madrid, pausing briefly to explore the cutting-edge City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, a remarkable architectural complex. We plan to arrive in Madrid between 20:30 and 21:00. To welcome you to the city in style, weve arranged a transfer to Plaza Mayor, a lively square where you can enjoy pinchos or sample local wines at one of the many inviting restaurants. Please note that depending on group size, the trip from Valencia to Madrid may be conducted via high-speed train.
Day 14 - Madrid
Today, we begin with an insightful tour of central Madrid, where you'll experience some of the city's most famous landmarks. Our route includes the Paseo del Prado, Cibeles, and Neptuno, each a testament to Madrid's rich history and culture. We'll also see the impressive Puerta de Alcal and wander around Plaza de Coln and the vibrant Plaza Mayor. Our exploration continues to Retiro Park, a serene oasis amidst urban life, where the stunning lake and the intricate Palacio de Cristal await.Our tour includes admission to Santiago Bernabu Stadium, the legendary home of Real Madrid, a club cherished by football fans worldwide. Spend your afternoon as you wish, whether uncovering more of Madrid's secrets or simply relaxing in a local caf. Day 15 - Madrid - Granada
Departing from Madrid early in the morning, we will head south through the picturesque region of La Mancha, famously associated with the tales of Don Quixote. We'll make a brief stop in Puerto Lpice, a quaint village that epitomises the spirit of this region. Continuing our journey, we will traverse the dramatic landscape of Despeaperros before reaching the vibrant city of Granada, where you can enjoy a leisurely lunch included in your visit. The afternoon is yours to explore at your own pace. You might consider visiting the impressive Cathedral of Granada, which houses the tombs of the Catholic Monarchs, or wandering through the charming streets of the Albaicn neighbourhood where you'll be rewarded with stunning views of the Alhambra from the Mirador de San Nicols. Please note that this tour does not include admission to the Alhambra. If you wish to visit, we recommend pre-purchasing tickets through the official website or via local tour companies.
Day 16 - Granada - Malaga - Marbella - Ronda - Seville
We leave Granada and make our way to the Costa del Sol. Our first destination is Malaga, where we will have the opportunity to explore its historic centre, renowned for its impressive cathedral and the renowned Picasso Museum. Continuing southwards along the scenic coastal highway, we enjoy panoramic views of the sparkling Mediterranean. Next up is Puerto Bans in Marbella, a lavish and stylish marina that showcases the charm of the coastline. In the afternoon, we weave through the mountainous terrain accompanied by captivating tales of local bandits, arriving at Ronda. This striking white town is perched dramatically atop a cliff, divided by a deep gorge, offering breathtaking vistas. Our day concludes as we reach Seville in the evening, where well unwind and enjoy dinner at the hotel.
Day 17 - Seville
We begin our day in Seville with an engaging city tour, guiding you through the highlights of this vibrant city. You'll have the chance to admire the magnificent Seville Cathedral, famed for the iconic Giralda tower. Our exploration takes us along the banks of the Guadalquivir River and into the heart of the bustling Santa Cruz and Triana neighbourhoods, each offering a unique glimpse into the rhythm of Sevillian life. Following the tour, we'll enjoy a leisurely boat ride on the Guadalquivir River, providing a different yet picturesque perspective of Sevilles stunning landscapes. In the evening, you have the option to indulge in the local culture by attending a traditional flamenco tablao, a colourful performance showcasing the passionate dance that is synonymous with Andaluca.
Day 18 - Seville - Merida - Evora - Lisbon
We depart from Seville, journeying through the captivating landscapes of rolling hills and vast pasturelands as we travel towards Extremadura. Our first stop is Mrida, where we include admission to the Archaeological Ensemble. This remarkable site, featuring a well-preserved Roman Theatre and Amphitheatre, is celebrated as a World Heritage Site. You'll have time to enjoy a leisurely lunch and explore Mrida's charming pedestrianised historic centre, bursting with local restaurants and vibrant atmosphere. In the afternoon, we continue our journey, crossing into Portugal and arriving in vora, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known for its picturesque whitewashed streets, Renaissance palaces, and impressive cathedral, vora provides a delightful cultural experience. Our travels conclude with an evening arrival in Lisbon.
