Day 1 - Lisbon
On your first day in Lisbon, well greet you at the airport and ensure your transfer to the hotel. Once youve settled in, feel free to enjoy some leisure time to relax or explore the local area at your own pace. Later in the afternoon, keep an eye on the information boards at the hotel reception, where youll find details about the beginning of your tour. Take this opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of Portugals captivating capital before your exciting journey unfolds. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Lisbon
On our second day in Lisbon, we begin with a guided tour of the city, famed for its seven hills. Well navigate the charming alleys adorned with iconic tiles and indulge in the distinctive light of the Atlantic that bathes the city. Our explorations include the historic Belm neighbourhood, from where the great Portuguese explorers embarked on their oceanic quests during the 15th century. You'll have time to yourself in the afternoon for further exploration. You may wish to wander through the Bairro Alto district and take in the views from its lookout point, or even venture on an optional excursion to the nearby towns of Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril. In the evening, we reconvene and return to our hotel from the vibrant Restauradores Square, bustling with lively bars and caf culture.
Day 3 - Lisbon - Caceres - Madrid
We will depart Portugal in the early morning, journeying through the scenic Alentejo region. Our first stop will be Estremoz, where we'll pause to enjoy a coffee in this delightful town, known for its medieval castle, cobbled streets, and distinctive architecture that perfectly captures the essence of Portuguese heritage. Continuing on, we will cross the border into Spain and arrive in Cceres. Here, you will have time to savour lunch and explore the incredibly well-preserved medieval and Renaissance centre, offering a glimpse into Spain's historical elegance. Our journey will then take us to Madrid, where we will reach the city in the evening. We will provide a transfer to Plaza Mayor, a vibrant square bustling with restaurants and lively atmosphere, ideal for unwinding after a day of travel.
Day 4 - Madrid
We will start our day in Madrid with an enlightening tour of the city's vibrant central area. This excursion will take us through some of the capital's most iconic spots, including the Paseo del Prado, famous for its art museums, and the stunning fountains of Cibeles and Neptuno. You'll also see the grand Puerta de Alcal, the historic Plaza de Coln, and the lively Plaza Mayor. Our tour will then lead us to the tranquil Retiro Park, a serene escape in the heart of the city, where we'll experience the serene beauty of the lake and the majestic Palacio de Cristal. Admission is included for a visit to the Santiago Bernabu Stadium, home to Real Madrid and often hailed as one of the finest football clubs globally. The afternoon is yours to enjoy at your leisure, allowing you to explore the city further or relax. In the evening, we'll organise a convenient transfer back to the hotel.
Day 5 - Madrid - Zaragoza - Poblet - Barcelona
On the fifth day, we begin our journey towards Aragon, travelling through the scenic landscapes of Castile. Our first stop is Zaragoza, where we will take in the grandeur of the magnificent Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar. Continuing on, we visit the tranquil Poblet Abbey, renowned as one of the best-preserved medieval monasteries globally tickets for entry are included. Our day concludes as we arrive in Barcelona in the evening, ready to explore more of this vibrant city.
Day 6 - Barcelona - Girona
In the morning, we'll explore Barcelona, affectionately known as the City of Counts. Situated along the Mediterranean coast, Barcelona is celebrated for its unique blend of rich history and vibrant modernity. We'll admire Gaud's stunning modernist architecture, wander along the bustling Ramblas, and recall the city's significant events such as the Universal Exposition and the Olympics. As evening approaches, we'll depart Barcelona and venture north into Catalonia, arriving in Girona. Here, we'll stroll through its picturesque historic centre, famous for its colourful houses, ancient Jewish quarter, and impressive cathedral, before settling in for the night.
Day 7 - Girona - Carrieres des Lumieres - Chambery
Today, we journey from Girona into the heart of France, passing through the enchanting region of Provence. Our first stop is Arles, a UNESCO World Heritage site celebrated for its association with Van Gogh. Rich in history, this charming city invites us to explore its well-preserved Roman theatre and quaint Romanesque churches. There will be ample time to wander the streets and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, we will experience the mesmerising Carrires des Lumires, an underground spectacle of art, light, and sound set in an ancient quarry. After soaking in this unique exhibition, we travel onwards to Chambry, the picturesque capital of Savoy. This evening, immerse yourself in the medieval charm of Chambry, known for its historic centre and grand castle. If we're unable to secure tickets to Carrires des Lumires due to high demand, we will instead visit the majestic Pont du Gard, a famed Roman aqueduct.
Day 8 - Chambery - Geneva - Gruyeres - Leysin
Today, we embark on our journey to Switzerland, arriving in the cosmopolitan city of Geneva. With our guide, we will explore some of the city's highlights, beginning with the Palais des Nations, which serves as the European headquarters of the United Nations. We'll stroll through the beautiful English Garden, where you'll find the iconic flower clock, and well admire the impressive Jet d'Eau, Europe's tallest fountain.Our adventure continues as we move on to the charming village of Gruyres, famous worldwide for its delicious cheese. Here, you can indulge in a visit to the nearby Maison Cailler Chocolate Factory for a delightful tasting experience. Our route will take us through picturesque mountain landscapes dotted with traditional Swiss wooden villages, leading us to the stunning Chillon Castle on the shores of Lake Geneva, where admission is included.By mid-afternoon, we'll arrive in Leysin, a quaint holiday village offering breathtaking views of the Rhne Valley and Mont Blanc. Known for its winter sports and hiking opportunities, Leysin promises a memorable experience. Dinner is included. Depending on the availability of accommodation, we may stay in another charming Alpine town such as Martigny.
Day 9 - Leysin - Interlaken - Lucerne - Zurich
Prepare for a day immersed in breathtaking alpine landscapes as we journey through some of Switzerland's most picturesque locations. Our adventure begins with a cable car ride up to Glacier 3000, a remarkable site that offers year-round ice and snow. At the top, you can explore this stunning setting by walking across the remarkable suspended bridge linking two mountain peaks, discovering the fascinating Ice Cathedral, or enjoying the recreational activities at the Fun Park. As we descend, we'll head to the charming town of Interlaken, where you'll have the opportunity to enjoy lunch amidst the stunning surroundings. Afterwards, our journey continues to Lucerne, a city celebrated for its captivating beauty. In the evening, we arrive in Zurich, where youll have the chance to wander through the lively city centre before retiring for the night. Please note that in case of unfavourable weather or unforeseen events, the Glacier 3000 cable car might be closed, in which case, we will provide an equally enchanting alternative to experience the Swiss alpine splendour.
Day 10 - Zurich - Bellinzona - Como - Milan
We begin Day 10 with an early departure from Zurich, making our way across the Alps to the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland. Our first stop is Bellinzona, celebrated for its three captivating medieval castles designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These castles, perched above the town, underscore Bellinzona's historical importance as a crucial alpine stronghold. You will have some leisure time to explore the quaint streets of the town centre at your own pace.As we continue our journey into Italy, our next destination is the charming town of Como, located in the picturesque Lombardy region. Known for its stunning lakeside gardens and impressive cathedral, Como offers a delightful setting for lunch, allowing you to soak in the tranquil beauty before we move on.Our day concludes with the arrival in Milan. Here, our guide will lead us to the awe-inspiring Piazza del Duomo, a central hub bustling with activity and featuring one of the most renowned cathedrals in the world. You will have some time to explore the surroundings and absorb the vibrant atmosphere before we proceed to your hotel for the night.
Day 11 - Milan - Pisa - Rome
Today, we continue our adventure to Pisa. We will board a delightful tourist train to the Piazza dei Miracoli, where you'll have the opportunity to admire one of Italy's most stunning art complexes, featuring the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa. Later, we'll make our way to Rome, arriving in the evening.
Day 12 - Rome
In the morning, we will embark on a three-hour guided tour of Rome, the Eternal City, where history and legend intertwine to create one of the most significant cities in Western civilisation. Our tour will blend a walking exploration of Imperial Rome with a panoramic bus journey that takes in many iconic landmarks. You will witness the grandeur of the Arch of Constantine and the imposing exterior of the Colosseum, a testament to Rome's ancient splendour. We'll stroll through the Imperial Forums, once the vibrant heart of Roman public life, and pass by the historic Circus Maximus, where thrilling chariot races once captivated vast crowds.Our tour continues with the Baths of Caracalla, an ancient thermae complex offering a glimpse into the luxurious lifestyle of the past. You'll have the chance to savour authentic Roman cuisine before a transfer back to the hotel around 8:30 p.m.
Day 13 - Rome - Florence
Today, we depart from Rome and journey north, taking in the picturesque landscapes en route to Florence. Upon our arrival in this enchanting city, we head directly to Piazzale Michelangelo. Here, youll be treated to one of the most breathtaking views of Florence, with its iconic skyline set against a backdrop of rolling hills.After soaking in the panorama, we make our way into the heart of Florence. Youll have some time for lunch and perhaps sample some authentic Tuscan cuisine. Once refreshed, we embark on a guided walking tour through the city's historic centre with a local expert. Highlights include the charming Ponte Vecchio, the majestic Duomo, and the vibrant Piazza della Signoria. Florence truly feels like an open-air museum, with every corner steeped in art and history.Following the guided tour, take advantage of some leisure time to explore at your own pace. You might wish to delve deeper into Florences myriad of art galleries and boutiques or simply savour a gelato by the Arno River. Day 14 - Florence - Venice
Today, we will travel through the beautiful Apennine Mountains on our way to Venice. Once there, we will take a boat across the Giudecca Canal to the enchanting Island of Venice. Accompanied by a local guide, we will explore the iconic St. Marks Square, a hub of Venetian culture and history. Following our time in the square, we will visit the renowned Murano Glass Factory to witness the intricate craftsmanship involved in creating the exquisite glass pieces the island is famous for. You will then have free time to wander the streets and canals of this extraordinary city at your own pace. Our accommodation will be in the Mestre district.
Day 15 - Venice
After breakfast, our tour concludes, leaving you with cherished memories of your adventures.
