Day 1 - Lisbon
Welcome to Lisbon! Upon your arrival, we will arrange a transfer to the hotel, where youll have the chance to unwind and enjoy some free time exploring at your own pace. In the afternoon, dont forget to check the noticeboards at the hotel reception for all the essential details regarding the start of your tour. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Lisbon
On your second day in Lisbon, we embark on a guided sightseeing tour exploring this remarkable city, famously built on seven hills. As we wander through its charming alleys and past its iconic, hand-painted tiles, feel the essence of "saudade"a deep sense of longing that defines the local culture. The tour includes a visit to the historic Belem neighbourhood, a nod to the era of the great Portuguese navigators who set sail from here to chart the oceans in the 15th century. In the afternoon, enjoy free time to explore at your own pace. You might choose to stroll through the lively Bairro Alto district and take in stunning views from its scenic vantage points. Alternatively, consider an optional excursion to the picturesque towns of Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril. As evening falls, we head back to the hotel, departing from the bustling Restauradores Square, renowned for its vibrant bars and cafes.
Day 3 - Lisbon - Caceres - Madrid
On day three, we begin our adventure with an early departure from Lisbon, making our way through the picturesque landscapes of the Alentejo region. Our first stop is in Estremoz, a quaint town where we'll enjoy a morning coffee amidst its medieval architecture and cobbled streetsan enchanting glimpse into Portuguese heritage. As we continue our journey into Spain, we'll arrive in Cceres, where you'll have the opportunity to savour lunch and wander around the historic centre. This area is renowned for its excellently preserved medieval and Renaissance buildings, offering a genuine step back in time. Our day concludes with a drive to Madrid, arriving in the evening. We'll transfer you to the vibrant Plaza Mayor, a hub of lively restaurants and bustling activitya perfect place to begin your evening in Spain's capital.
Day 4 - Madrid
We start our morning in Madrid with an extensive exploration of the city's vibrant heart. We'll visit renowned landmarks such as the Paseo del Prado, the Cibeles and Neptuno fountains, Puerta de Alcal, Plaza de Coln, and the historic Plaza Mayor. Our next stop is the picturesque Retiro Park, an urban sanctuary where you can enjoy the tranquil lake and the stunning Palacio de Cristal. We'll then make our way to the Santiago Bernabu Stadium, home to Real Madridone of the most successful football clubs globallywhich is included in our itinerary. The afternoon is yours to further explore Madrid at your own pace. As the day winds down, we'll regroup for a return transfer to our hotel in the evening.
Day 5 - Madrid - Zaragoza - Poblet - Barcelona
In the morning, we will set off towards the region of Aragon, travelling through the scenic landscapes of Castile. Our journey's first highlight will be Zaragoza, where we will visit the breathtaking Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, renowned for its impressive Baroque architecture and its significance in Spanish religious tradition. From Zaragoza, our travels continue to the tranquil Poblet Abbey, a beautifully preserved medieval monastery, where your entrance is included. This serene locale offers a unique glimpse into monastic life and history. As the day progresses, we will journey onwards to Barcelona, arriving in the evening to embrace the vibrant atmosphere of this iconic city.
Day 6 - Barcelona - Girona
In the morning, well set off to explore the vibrant city of Barcelona, also known as the City of Counts. Perched along the Mediterranean coast, Barcelona is renowned for its captivating modernist architecture by Gaud, lively streets like Las Ramblas, and a rich historical tapestry woven through events like the Universal Exposition and the Olympics. By evening, we'll leave this bustling metropolis behind as we journey north into Catalonia. Our day concludes with a picturesque walk through the historic centre of Girona, famous for its colourful riverside houses, the ancient Jewish quarter, and its striking cathedral. Later, well settle into our hotel for the night.
Day 7 - Girona - Carrieres des Lumieres - Chambery
Today, we'll embark on a journey to France, traversing the picturesque Provence region. Our first stop will be the charming town of Arles, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its association with Vincent van Gogh. In Arles, we can explore the impressive Roman theatre and the quaint Romanesque churches, soaking up the unique blend of history and art. There will be time to enjoy a leisurely lunch and explore at your own pace. Our next destination is the Carrires des Lumires, an extraordinary underground art venue located in an ancient quarry. This captivating experience combines art, imagery, and sound in an unforgettable show. Should tickets for Carrires des Lumires be unavailable, we will instead visit the iconic Pont du Gard, an intricately constructed Roman aqueduct. As evening approaches, we will arrive in Chambry, the historic capital of Savoy, known for its enchanting medieval architecture and grand castle. Here, you'll have time to wander around the beautifully preserved historic centre.
Day 8 - Chambery - Geneva - Gruyeres - Leysin
Today we venture into beautiful Switzerland, beginning our day in Geneva. Accompanied by our guide, we'll explore the Palais des Nations, the European headquarters of the United Nations. Take in the sights of the picturesque English Garden, famed for its charming flower clock, and admire the impressive Jet d'Eau, Europe's tallest fountain. Our next destination is the delightful, walled village of Gruyres, famous for its delectable cheese. Here, we also have the opportunity to visit the Maison Cailler Chocolate Factory, where you'll indulge in an exquisite tasting experience. Continuing through the serene Swiss landscapes, we'll pass through enchanting wooden villages and mountainous scenery to arrive at Chillon Castle, majestically perched on the shores of Lake Geneva. Admission to this historical treasure is included in our tour. By mid-afternoon, we'll reach the lovely holiday village of Leysin, offering breathtaking views of the Rhne Valley and Mont Blanc. Leysin is celebrated for its winter sports and hiking opportunities. We will enjoy dinner at our hotel. Please note that depending on availability, accommodation might occasionally be in another equally charming Swiss Alpine town, such as Martigny.
Day 9 - Leysin - Interlaken - Lucerne - Zurich
Today, we will immerse ourselves in breathtaking alpine landscapes, so do dress warmly. Our day begins with a cable car ride up to Glacier 3000, one of Switzerland's most awe-inspiring spots, renowned for its perennial ice and snow. Here, you can stroll across a suspended bridge linking two mountain peaks, explore the enchanting Ice Cathedral, or have fun at the park. Following this, we'll head to Interlaken for a leisurely lunch amidst stunning surroundings. Our next stop is Lucerne, celebrated for its picturesque beauty, where we will arrive in the evening. Later, we reach Zurich, giving you an opportunity to wander its vibrant centre before heading to the hotel. Please note that in the event of poor weather or unforeseen circumstances, the cable car to Glacier 3000 may be unavailable, in which case we will ensure you experience an equally striking alternative amidst the alpine scenery.
Day 10 - Zurich - Strasbourg - Paris
We'll depart from Zurich, heading towards the scenic French region of Alsace. Our journey takes us to Strasbourg, a captivating city where French and German influences intertwine seamlessly. You'll have ample time to wander and discover the charm of this unique destination. Later, we'll continue our travels to Paris, arriving in the evening, ready to explore the City of Light further.
Day 11 - Paris
Today, we will delve into the rich history of France with a visit to the illustrious Palace of Versailles, famed for its breathtaking gardens. Please note that entry is not included. Upon our return to Paris, we'll explore the enchanting neighbourhood of Montmartre, known for its bohemian charm, vibrant artistic scene, and lively cabarets. Next, we will embark on a panoramic tour of the city, led by a local guide, offering a glimpse of Paris's grand avenues and iconic landmarks. Once we've concluded the tour, we will return to the hotel. For those interested, an optional variety show is available in the evening.
Day 12 - Paris - Rouen
In the heart of Paris, we commence our day with a visit to the iconic Eiffel Tower. You'll have the opportunity to ascend to the second floor of this iconic structure, allowing you to soak in breathtaking views of the city below tickets for this experience are included. Following this, we embark on a serene cruise along the Seine, offering a unique perspective of Paris's riverside landmarks. The afternoon is yours to explore the city at your own pace, capturing the essence of Parisian life.At approximately 4:00 p.m., we will depart from Paris and set off towards Normandy, arriving in the historic city of Rouen. Here, you'll have the freedom to wander through its historic streets, where Roman roots meet medieval charm. The city's remarkable Gothic cathedral stands as a testament to its rich history and culture. Please note, should the queue at the Eiffel Tower prove lengthy, we may reschedule this visit for a more convenient time, potentially on Sunday, to ensure a smoother experience.
Day 13 - Rouen - English Channel - Canterbury - London
Today, well spend some time exploring the centre of Rouen, with its captivating blend of medieval and modern charm. Following this, we head towards the north of France and embark on a ferry crossing of the English Channel. Our next stop is Canterbury, regarded as the spiritual capital of England. Here, you can stroll through its historic centre, full of quintessential English character. Our journey concludes in London, where youll have the opportunity to explore the Tower Bridge area at your leisurean iconic sight that captures the essence of the city. Well then make our way to the hotel to relax after a day brimming with exploration and travel.
Day 14 - London
Embark on a captivating exploration of London with a panoramic tour led by a knowledgeable local guide. Immerse yourself in the city's rich tapestry of culture and history as we visit iconic landmarks such as the Houses of Parliament, the River Thames, and Buckingham Palacewhere, timing permitting, you might catch the renowned Changing of the Guard ceremony. In the evening, well set a rendezvous in Piccadilly before enjoying a leisurely walk through the vibrant areas of Leicester Square, Chinatown, and Soho. Around midday, well head to Camden, known for its lively and eclectic market. Here, you'll find an array of items reflecting various cultures. The rest of the afternoon is yours to explore London at your own pace. Take this opportunity to delve into the city's rich tapestry or relax and absorb its unique atmosphere.
Day 16 - London
As the day begins, enjoy a relaxing breakfast in London. This marks the conclusion of our journey, as you depart with new memories of the experiences and destinations we've shared together. Safe travels until next time.
