Day 1 - Lisbon
Upon arriving in Lisbon, we'll organise your transfer to the hotel, where you'll have some free time to settle in and explore at your leisure. This afternoon, you can find all the pertinent information regarding the commencement of your tour displayed on the boards in the hotel reception area. Enjoy your first taste of Lisbon, a city known for its rich history and vibrant culture. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Lisbon
On the second day of our journey, we will set off on a morning sightseeing tour of the captivating city of Lisbon, famously built on seven hills. As we wander through its winding alleyways, you'll be enchanted by the city's distinctive tiles and the evocative feeling of "saudade" that pervades the air. You'll also encounter the vibrant Atlantic light that has long inspired visitors. Our exploration will also lead us to the historic Belem neighbourhood, a significant point of departure for Portugal's intrepid 15th-century navigators who set sail to explore the world.The afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure. Should you wish, you have the option to venture into the bohemian Bairro Alto district, renowned for its enchanting viewpoints and lively atmosphere. Alternatively, consider an optional excursion to the nearby towns of Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril, each offering their unique charm and history.As the day winds down, we will return to the hotel from the lively Restauradores Square, a spot buzzing with vibrant bars and cafs, providing the perfect ending to your day in this splendid city.
Day 3 - Lisbon - Caceres - Madrid
On the third day of our journey, we will embark on an early morning departure from Portugal, traversing the scenic landscape of the Alentejo region. Our first stop is the picturesque town of Estremoz, where we'll pause for a coffee break. This charming town is renowned for its medieval castle, winding cobblestone streets, and exquisite architecture, all of which capture the essence of Portuguese heritage. As our journey continues, we cross the border into Spain and arrive in Cceres. Here, you'll have the opportunity to savour lunch and explore the historic centre, a remarkably well-preserved medieval and Renaissance urban complex. Our day concludes with an evening arrival in Madrid, where we will transfer you to Plaza Mayor, a vibrant hub bustling with restaurants and an energetic atmosphere, perfect for an evening of exploration.
Day 4 - Madrid
In the morning, well embark on a thorough exploration of central Madrid, taking in its most iconic sights, including Paseo del Prado, Cibeles and Neptuno fountains, Puerta de Alcal, Plaza de Coln, and Plaza Mayor. We will also visit Retiro Park, a delightful green oasis in the heart of the city, where you can admire the lake and the stunning glass structure, the Palacio de Cristal. Admission is included for a tour of the Santiago Bernabu Stadium, the proud home of Real Madrid regarded by many as the world's premier football club. Youre free to enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at your own pace, perhaps exploring more of Madrid's vibrant offerings. In the evening, well provide a transfer back to the hotel.
Day 5 - Madrid - Zaragoza - Poblet - Barcelona
This morning, we will set off on our journey towards Aragon, traversing the scenic landscapes of Castile. Our first stop is in Zaragoza, where we will admire the magnificent Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar. This is one of Spain's revered pilgrimage sites, boasting stunning architecture. From Zaragoza, we will continue to the tranquil Poblet Abbey in Catalonia. This abbey is recognised as one of the best-preserved medieval monasteries in the world, and your entry is included. Our day concludes with an evening arrival in Barcelona, where you can spend time unwinding or exploring the local area at your leisure.
Day 6 - Barcelona - Girona
In the morning, we will explore the City of Counts, a vibrant city along the Mediterranean Sea known for Gauds modernist architecture and the lively Ramblas. As a cultural and historical hub, Barcelona has gained fame from events like the Universal Exposition and the Olympics, positioning it as one of Europes most intriguing capitals. Come evening, we'll journey north into Catalonia, stopping for a stroll in Girona. The historic centre of this charming city boasts colourful houses, an ancient Jewish quarter, and an impressive cathedral. Well then settle into our hotel for the night.
Day 7 - Girona - Carrieres des Lumieres - Chambery
Today, we journey from Girona into France, travelling through the enchanting region of Provence. Our first stop is the petite city of Arles, a UNESCO World Heritage site famed for its ties to Van Gogh. This charming city offers Roman structures and quaint Romanesque churches, providing a delightful setting for exploration and lunch. Our travels then take us to Carrires des Lumires, an extraordinary subterranean art display within an ancient quarry where the interplay of art, images, and sound creates a mesmerising experience. In the evening, we'll reach Chambry, the picturesque capital of Savoy, notable for its medieval charm, captivating historic centre, and impressive castle. Please note, if tickets for Carrires des Lumires are unavailable due to high demand, we will instead visit Pont du Gard, a renowned Roman aqueduct.
Day 8 - Chambery - Geneva - Gruyeres - Leysin
We set off for Switzerland today, reaching the vibrant city of Geneva. With our guide, we'll visit the Palais des Nations, the European headquarters of the United Nations, and take a leisurely stroll through the beautiful English Garden to see the famous flower clock. You'll also marvel at the impressive Jet d'Eau, the tallest fountain in Europe. Our journey continues to the charming village of Gruyres, renowned for its world-famous cheese. Nearby, some of Switzerland's premier chocolate factories awaitincluding Nestl, where we'll indulge in a delightful tasting experience at the Maison Cailler Chocolate Factory.As we drive through idyllic mountain landscapes, enjoying scenic roads and picturesque wooden villages, you'll feel immersed in Swiss culture. Our next destination is Chillon Castle, a magnificent fortress perched on the shores of Lake Geneva, where entry is included. By mid-afternoon, we'll arrive in Leysinknown for its breathtaking views of the Rhne Valley and Mont Blanc, as well as its abundance of winter sports and hiking opportunities. As our day draws to an end, we'll gather for an included dinner in this charming Alpine village. Please note that our accommodation might occasionally be in another delightful Swiss town nestled in the Alps, such as Martigny, depending on availability.
Day 9 - Leysin - Interlaken - Lucerne - Zurich
Today promises awe-inspiring views of Switzerland's majestic mountains. Be sure to wear warm clothing as we take a cable car ride up to Glacier 3000, one of Switzerland's most stunning locations blanketed in year-round ice and snow. Here, you can traverse the thrilling suspension bridge that connects two peaks, explore the enchanting Ice Cathedral, or have fun at the Snow Park. After our morning adventure, we'll stop in the picturesque town of Interlaken for lunch. In the late afternoon, we journey to Lucerne, celebrated as one of the most beautiful cities in Switzerland with its charming lakeside setting and historic architecture. Arriving in Zurich by evening, you'll have time to wander the city centre and take in its vibrant atmosphere before settling at the hotel. Please note that if weather conditions are unfavourable, resulting in the closure of the Glacier 3000 cable car, we will arrange an alternative alpine excursion that guarantees spectacular views.
Day 10 - Zurich - Strasbourg - Paris
We will bid farewell to Zurich as we journey towards the picturesque region of Alsace in France. Our first destination is Strasbourg, a city renowned for its unique blend of French and German architecture and culture. You'll have time to explore and experience the city's charm, from its winding streets to its vibrant atmosphere. After soaking in the sights and sounds of Strasbourg, our journey continues to the iconic city of Paris, where we'll arrive in the evening. Relax and anticipate the adventures that await in the City of Light.
Day 11 - Paris
We begin our day with a visit to the legendary Palace of Versailles, steeped in France's illustrious history. Known for its spectacular gardens and opulent architecture, the palace offers a glimpse into the grandeur of French royalty. After exploring Versailles, we return to the heart of Paris and visit Montmartre, the city's quintessential bohemian quarter. This enchanting neighbourhood has long been a haven for artists, and you'll see why as you wander its charming streets, rich with character and history. Our journey through Paris continues with a panoramic city tour led by a knowledgeable local guide. This will offer us an opportunity to admire the city's broad boulevards and iconic landmarks, capturing the essence of its stunning architecture and vibrant culture. Once the tour concludes, you'll have time to relax back at the hotel. In the evening, there's an option to experience a traditional Parisian variety show if you're keen to soak up more of the city's famed artistic atmosphere.
Day 12 - Paris - Rouen
We'll begin our day in the heart of Paris with a visit to the legendary Eiffel Tower, where you have the opportunity to ascend to the second floor of this iconic structuretickets are included in the visit. Following this, we'll enjoy a leisurely boat cruise along the Seine River, providing a unique perspective of the city's stunning architecture. Your afternoon is your own to further explore the delights of Paris at your leisure. Around 4:00 p.m., we'll depart for Normandy, and by the evening, we'll arrive in Rouen. Here, you'll have the chance to wander through the historic centre, a lively area enriched with Roman and medieval heritage, featuring a magnificent Gothic cathedral and charming streets that vividly recount the past. Note: If the wait time at the Eiffel Tower is too lengthy, we may adjust the visit to a more convenient time or move it to Sunday.
Day 13 - Rouen - English Channel - Canterbury - London
Start your day with a leisurely stroll through the historic centre of Rouen, a city steeped in history with its medieval charm and impressive Gothic cathedral. Following our exploration, we'll set off towards the north of France, ready to traverse the English Channel by ferry. As we arrive in Canterbury, you'll find yourself in the heart of England's religious centre, renowned for its enchanting historic core. Continuing our journey, we will make our way to London. Here, you will have free time to explore the area around Tower Bridge, recognised as one of the city's most iconic landmarks. After soaking in the sights, we'll head to the hotel for a restful evening.
Day 14 - London
Explore London with us on a comprehensive guided tour that delves into the city's rich history and vibrant culture. You'll encounter some of the city's most iconic landmarks, including the majestic Houses of Parliament, the picturesque River Thames, and the regal Buckingham Palace, where you might even catch the Changing of the Guard, depending on the timing of your visit. As evening descends, we'll gather in Piccadilly for a walk through the lively streets of Leicester Square, Chinatown, and Soho. These areas are renowned for their energetic atmosphere, diverse entertainment options, and bustling theatres. You'll find an array of dining choices for dinner before we head back to the hotel.
Day 15 - London - Colchester - Colchester - Volendam Ferry
Today begins with a visit to the British Museum, one of the world's most esteemed cultural institutions, where we will explore a fascinating collection from across the globe. Following this, you'll enjoy a leisurely afternoon in Camden, known for its vibrant and eclectic street market. Here you can browse unique items and savour a meal at one of the many delightful eateries or food stalls. At approximately 4:00 p.m., we depart for Colchester, acknowledged as the oldest recorded town in England, where a pleasant stroll through its historic streets awaits. We then journey to Harwich to board our overnight ferry to the Netherlands, accommodating you in en suite cabins for a restful voyage. Please be aware that due to ferry capacity, adjustments to the itinerary may occur, such as taking a daytime ferry with an overnight in Antwerp, or alternative travel arrangements to Amsterdam by train or flight.
Day 16 - Colchester - Volendam Ferry - Volendam - Amsterdam
Well arrive in the Netherlands at around eight in the morning, docking at Hoek van Holland. Our first stop will be Volendam, a delightful fishing village known for its traditional charm and picturesque scenery. Here, you'll enjoy wandering the quaint streets and experiencing the village's unique character at your own pace.Following our visit to Volendam, well continue to Amsterdam, where well embark on a guided tour exploring the citys vibrant blend of historic and modern elements. You'll see the quintessential image of a Dutch windmill, the impressive Rembrandt statue, and the sophisticated South District. There will also be an opportunity to see the art of diamond cutting in action at Museum Square.The guided portion of our journey will conclude as we step off the bus and wander into the bustling heart of Amsterdam. You will have the remainder of the day to further explore this enchanting city at your leisure. Whether you visit renowned museums, cruise along the canals, or simply soak in the lively atmosphere, Amsterdam offers an array of experiences to enjoy.
