Day 2 - Lisbon
This morning, we will embark on a captivating tour of Lisbon, the enchanting Portuguese capital spread across seven hills. We'll wander through its charming alleys, admire iconic azulejos tiles, and soak in the unique atmosphere known as "saudade," all bathed in the beautiful light of the Atlantic. Our exploration will take us to the historic Belem district, from where Portuguese navigators launched their oceanic voyages in the 15th century. In the afternoon, enjoy some time at leisure to roam the city's vibrant streets perhaps head to the Bairro Alto, where the viewpoints boast stunning panoramas. Alternatively, you might choose to venture out on an optional excursion to explore the scenic towns of Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril. As evening falls, we'll regroup and make our way back to the hotel from Restauradores Square, a lively area buzzing with energetic bars and charming cafes.
Day 3 - Lisbon - Caceres - Madrid
We'll set off from Portugal early in the day, journeying through the scenic Alentejo region. Our first stop is Estremoz, a picturesque town known for its medieval castle, charming cobblestone streets, and serene ambiance that epitomises Portuguese culture. After a refreshing coffee break, well continue into Spain, reaching Cceres. Here, you'll have the chance to enjoy lunch and explore its historic centre a medieval and Renaissance masterpiece impeccably preserved over the centuries. Our journey concludes in Madrid by evening, where a transfer will take us to the vibrant Plaza Mayor, alive with the energy of bustling restaurants and lively nightlife, ideal for unwinding after a day of travel.
Day 4 - Madrid
Our day in Madrid begins with a thorough tour of the city's vibrant centre. We'll explore its iconic landmarks such as Paseo del Prado, Cibeles, Neptuno, Puerta de Alcal, Plaza de Coln, and Plaza Mayor. Our journey continues to the peaceful Retiro Park, an exquisite green space in the heart of the city, where we'll visit the lake and the stunning Palacio de Cristal. Afterward, we have the opportunity to visit the Santiago Bernabu Stadium the legendary home of Real Madrid, hailed by many as the world's greatest football club. Following the tour, the afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure. In the evening, we'll arrange transport back to the hotel.
Day 5 - Madrid - Zaragoza - Poblet - Barcelona
Departing from Madrid in the morning, we'll venture towards the region of Aragon, traversing the landscapes of Castile. Our first stop of the day will be Zaragoza, where we'll visit the awe-inspiring Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar. Renowned for its stunning Baroque architecture, it's a symbol of cultural and religious significance in Spain. Following our exploration in Zaragoza, we'll head to the tranquil Poblet Abbey. This serene site, one of the world's most well-preserved medieval monasteries, offers a glimpse into monastic life from centuries past, and your admission ticket is included. Concluding our day's adventures, we'll journey to the vibrant city of Barcelona, where we'll arrive in the evening.
Day 6 - Barcelona - Girona
On day six, we begin our exploration in the captivating city of Barcelona, celebrated for its blend of modernist architectural marvels, Mediterranean charm, and rich historical tapestry. We'll discover the city's vibrant essence, highlighted by the work of the famed architect Gaud, a stroll along the bustling Ramblas, and insights into notable events like the Universal Exposition and the Olympics which have shaped its unique identity. In the evening, we set off from Barcelona, heading north into the scenic landscape of Catalonia. Before reaching our hotel, we'll stop in Girona, a city steeped in history, where you'll wander through its picturesque streets, admire the colourful facades of its riverside houses, explore the ancient Jewish Quarter, and visit its impressive cathedral.
Day 7 - Girona - Carrieres des Lumieres - Chambery
We'll set off for France, traversing the picturesque Provence region. Our initial stop is Arles, a charming UNESCO World Heritage city renowned for its connection to Vincent van Gogh. Here, youll have the opportunity to explore the Roman theatre and the quaint Romanesque churches, and there will be some free time to enjoy lunch and the surroundings. Following this, we'll visit Carrires des Lumires, a mesmerising underground art experience housed in an ancient quarry, featuring an enthralling display of art and sound. In the evening, well arrive in Chambry, the delightful capital of Savoy. This medieval-style city offers a beautiful historic centre and a large castle to admire. Should tickets for Carrires des Lumires be unavailable, we will provide an alternative visit to the fascinating Pont du Gard, a celebrated Roman aqueduct.
Day 8 - Chambery - Geneva - Gruyeres - Leysin
We set off for Switzerland and begin our day in Geneva. Our guide will take us to the Palais des Nations, home to the United Nations in Europe. We'll then explore the scenic English Garden, showcasing the city's iconic floral clock, and admire the impressive Jet dEau, Europes tallest fountain. Our next destination is the delightful, fortified village of Gruyres, renowned worldwide for its cheese. Nearby, well visit famous Swiss chocolate factories, including Nestl. Admission to the Maison Cailler Chocolate Factory is included, where youll indulge your senses in a delightful tasting session. We then continue our journey through charming mountain roads and idyllic wooden villages to Chillon Castle, majestically set on Lake Geneva's shore (admission included). Our day concludes with an arrival in Leysin, a picturesque holiday village offering splendid views of the Rhne Valley and Mont Blanc. Known for its alpine sports and hiking routes, Leysin is a perfect retreat. Dinner will be provided. Note: Accommodation may occasionally be elsewhere in a similarly charming Swiss alpine town, such as Martigny, depending on availability.
Day 9 - Leysin - Interlaken - Lucerne - Zurich
Today, prepare to experience some of Switzerland's most breathtaking alpine views as we venture to Glacier 3000. Pack your winter clothes for this high-altitude adventure. Well take a cable car ride to this spectacular location, where you can walk on a suspension bridge connecting two mountain peaks, explore the Ice Cathedral, or try out the Fun Park. After our visit, we will have lunch in Interlaken, a town nestled between lakes and surrounded by stunning mountain scenery. Our journey continues to Lucerne, a city renowned for its beauty and charm, where you can explore its historic and picturesque surroundings. In the evening, we will arrive in Zurich, giving you some time to discover the city's vibrant centre before settling in at the hotel. Please note, if weather conditions prevent a visit to Glacier 3000, an equally impressive alternative will be provided to ensure you still enjoy the captivating alpine landscapes.
Day 10 - Zurich - Bellinzona - Como - Milan
We will depart from Zurich early in the morning as we cross the majestic Alps into the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. Our first stop is Bellinzona, a city known for its trio of dramatic medieval castles perched strategically on the hills. These UNESCO World Heritage Sites underscore Bellinzonas strategic importance as an alpine stronghold through the ages. You'll have some free time to explore the charming streets and absorb the historical atmosphere. Continuing our journey, we enter Italy and pause in the picturesque town of Como for lunch. Set against a backdrop of lush hills and known as the jewel of Lombardy, Como boasts exquisite gardens by the lakeside and a stunning cathedral that commands attention. After enjoying your surroundings, we proceed to Milan, where our guide will introduce us to the breathtaking Piazza del Duomo. Here, you'll have some time to explore before we take you to your hotel for the evening.
Day 11 - Milan - Pisa - Rome
Today, we continue our journey from Milan to the renowned city of Pisa. We will travel by a charming little tourist train to the Piazza dei Miracoli, or the Square of Miracles. Here, you will have the opportunity to admire one of Italy's most iconic landmarksthe famous Leaning Tower of Pisaas well as the stunning array of other architectural marvels that define this site. After soaking in the beauty and history of Pisa, we will make our way to Rome, arriving later in the day. This journey will provide both enlightening sights and ample time to reflect on the day's captivating experiences.
Day 12 - Rome
This morning in Rome, we'll embark on a captivating three-hour tour of the city with a local guide. Our journey combines both a bus ride and a walking section through the iconic areas of Imperial Rome. We'll marvel at the Arch of Constantine, view the exterior of the Colosseum, and explore the Imperial Forums, once the administrative and political heart of ancient Rome. On our bus tour, you'll glimpse other legendary landmarks including the Circus Maximus, the Baths of Caracalla, the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, the Pyramid of Cestius, and the exterior of Castel Sant'Angelo. After marvelling at the panoramic scene, we will head to the historic centre of Florence. Here, after a leisurely lunch, we embark on a guided walking tour with a local expert. Youll discover iconic sites such as the Ponte Vecchio, the impressive Duomo, and the lively Piazza della Signoria, turning the city into an open-air museum. Once our tour concludes, youll have some free time to further explore the city's charming streets at your own pace. In the evening, Florence offers an array of restaurants in the district, presenting a diverse selection of international cuisines for dinner.
Day 14 - Florence - Venice
Today, we will journey through the breathtaking landscapes of the Apennines as we make our way to Venice. In the event of a smaller group, we may instead travel by train from Venice to Innsbruck, offering a scenic and relaxing alternative.
Day 16 - Salzburg - Lake Traunsee - Vienna
Today, we will deepen our exploration of Austria. Our morning is dedicated to discovering Salzburg, renowned as the birthplace of Mozart. The city's captivating Renaissance and Baroque architecture forms a picturesque backdrop beneath the imposing fortress that overlooks it.
