Day 1 - Lisbon
We will warmly welcome you to Lisbon and ensure your smooth transfer to the hotel. Once settled, you can enjoy some leisure time. In the afternoon, information about the start of the tour will be available on the boards in the hotel reception, ensuring you are well-prepared for the adventures ahead. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Lisbon
In the morning, we'll set off on a captivating guided tour of Lisbon, a city affectionately known as the "City of Seven Hills." This vibrant capital offers a charming blend of narrow alleyways and iconic mosaic tiles, illuminated by the stunning Atlantic light. Our exploration includes a visit to the historic Belm neighbourhood, renowned as the launching point for Portuguese explorers embarking on their monumental ocean voyages in the 15th century. The afternoon is yours to enjoy at your leisure. You might choose to wander through the lively Bairro Alto district, well-known for its scenic viewpoint. Alternatively, you could opt for an excursion to the enchanting towns of Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril, all rich in character and scenery. In the evening, we'll gather at Restauradores Square, a bustling hub filled with lively bars and cafes, before returning to our hotel.
Day 3 - Lisbon - Caceres - Madrid
On the third day, we'll commence an early departure from Portugal, traversing the scenic Alentejo region. Our journey includes a delightful pause in Estremoz a quaint town renowned for its medieval castle and cobblestone streets, offering a snapshot of quintessential Portuguese charm and serenity. Continuing onwards, we cross into Spain, arriving in Cceres. Here, you will have the opportunity to enjoy lunch and meander through the city's remarkably preserved medieval and Renaissance heart. This historical site offers a glimpse into the architectural splendour of the past. Our day concludes with an arrival in Madrid come evening. We'll drop you off at the lively Plaza Mayor, teeming with restaurants and vibrant activity, ready for you to explore.
Day 4 - Madrid
Our day in Madrid begins with a comprehensive exploration of the city's centre. We'll visit renowned sites such as Paseo del Prado, Cibeles Fountain, Neptuno Fountain, Puerta de Alcal, Plaza de Coln, and Plaza Mayor. Our tour continues with a visit to the tranquil Retiro Park, an urban oasis, where we will see the picturesque lake and the striking Palacio de Cristal. A visit to the Santiago Bernabu Stadium, home to Real Madrid and considered by many as the world's premier football club, is included in our activities. The remainder of your afternoon is free for you to explore at your leisure. In the evening, we will provide a transfer back to the hotel.
Day 5 - Madrid - Zaragoza - Poblet - Barcelona
On the morning of day five, we set off from Madrid towards the region of Aragon, passing through the scenic landscapes of Castile. Our first destination is Zaragoza, where we visit the magnificent Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, renowned for its stunning Baroque architecture. Afterwards, we travel to the tranquil Poblet Abbey, a splendidly preserved medieval monasteryyour entry tickets are already covered. As our day of exploration concludes, we journey onwards to Barcelona, arriving in the evening.
Day 6 - Barcelona - Girona
On the sixth day of our journey, we will explore the captivating city of Barcelona, a gem nestled on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Known for its unique blend of rich history and modernist architecture, Barcelona is home to the stunning works of Antoni Gaud, the bustling energy of Las Ramblas, and the legacy of having hosted the Universal Exposition and the Olympics. As one of Europe's most beautiful and intriguing capitals, the city promises a wealth of experiences. In the evening, we will leave Barcelona and travel north into the heart of Catalonia. Before reaching our hotel, we'll take a leisurely stroll through Girona's historic centre. This city, renowned for its vividly coloured houses, fascinating old Jewish Quarter, and magnificent cathedral, offers a captivating glimpse into the region's past.
Day 7 - Girona - Carrieres des Lumieres - Chambery
Today, we embark on a journey into the heart of France, travelling through the picturesque Provence region to our first stop, the enchanting town of Arles. Renowned for its association with Van Gogh and its Roman heritage, Arles is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that beckons with its impressive Roman theatre and charming Romanesque churches. Explore at your leisure and enjoy some lunch in this quaint setting. Next, we will enter the unique world of Carrires des Lumires. This remarkable underground art venue, set within an ancient quarry, offers an immersive spectacle of art and sound that captivates all who visit. If tickets for Carrires des Lumires are unavailable, fear not we will instead visit the Pont du Gard, a remarkable Roman aqueduct standing as a testament to ancient engineering. As evening approaches, we arrive in Chambry, the charming medieval capital of Savoy. Here, you'll find a beautifully preserved historic centre and an impressive castle, perfect for a leisurely evening stroll.
Day 8 - Chambery - Geneva - Gruyeres - Leysin
Today, we embark on an enchanting journey into Switzerland, beginning with our arrival in the vibrant city of Geneva. Here, our guide will lead us to explore the Palais des Nations, the European headquarters of the United Nations. We'll also wander through the picturesque English Garden, famous for its exquisite flower clock, and take in the sight of the Jet dEau, Europe's tallest fountain. Our next destination is the charming village of Gruyres, celebrated worldwide for its cheese. While in the area, we'll visit the renowned Maison Cailler Chocolate Factory, where a delicious tasting experience awaits. As we continue our journey along scenic roads, we'll pass idyllic mountain landscapes and rustic wooden villages en route to Chillon Castle, majestically situated on the shore of Lake Geneva. Admission to this stunning castle, steeped in history, is included. We will then make our way to Leysin, arriving by mid-afternoon. This delightful holiday village offers breathtaking views of the Rhne Valley and Mont Blanc and is famed for its winter sports and hiking opportunities. Dinner is included this evening. Please note that, subject to availability, we may sometimes be accommodated in another charming Swiss town nestled in the Alps, such as Martigny.
Day 9 - Leysin - Interlaken - Lucerne - Zurich
Today promises breathtaking alpine vistas, so make sure you're dressed for the chill. We'll take a cable car ride up to Glacier 3000, a stunning Swiss destination where snow and ice add to the year-round beauty. Here, you can venture across a suspended bridge linking two mountain summits, delve into the ethereal Ice Cathedral, or delight in the Fun Park's attractions. Following this exhilarating experience, we'll pause in Interlaken for a leisurely lunch. Next, our journey brings us to Lucerne, renowned for its picturesque setting and rich history. In the evening, we'll make our way to Zurich, allowing some time to explore the city's vibrant centre before settling in at the hotel. Please note that should weather conditions or unforeseen events disrupt the Glacier 3000 visit, we'll provide an alternative plan to ensure you still enjoy Switzerland's stunning alpine landscapes.
Day 10 - Zurich
Following breakfast, our memorable journey will conclude, leaving you with cherished moments from your travels.
