Day 1 - Lisbon
Welcome to Lisbon! Upon arrival, we will provide your transfer to the hotel. You may spend the afternoon at your leisure perhaps begin exploring the vibrant city or simply relax and unwind. In the evening, be sure to check the hotel reception for information on the start of your exciting journey. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Lisbon
We begin our day with an immersive tour of Lisbon, Portugal's vibrant capital, celebrated for its stunning scenery and historic significance. Known as the city of seven hills, Lisbon is famed for its narrow, winding streets, colourful tiles, and the distinctive feeling of "saudade." We'll explore its many corners and visit the historic Belm district, which was the starting point for many legendary 15th-century Portuguese navigators embarking on their global voyages. In the afternoon, savour some free time to meander through Bairro Alto and admire panoramic views from its famous overlook. Alternatively, you might choose to join an optional excursion to the picturesque towns of Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril. Well conclude our engaging day with a return to our hotel from Restauradores Square a lively area bustling with bars and cafs offering the perfect spot to unwind for the evening.
Day 3 - Lisbon - Caceres - Madrid
On day three, we leave Portugal early, venturing through the picturesque region of Alentejo. Our first stop is Estremoz, a charming town with a medieval castle and cobbled streets, where we'll pause for a coffee. Continuing into Spain, our journey brings us to Cceres. Here, you can enjoy lunch and explore the historic centre, a remarkably preserved medieval and Renaissance area. Our day concludes as we head to Madrid, arriving in the evening. We'll transfer you to Plaza Mayor, a bustling hub of lively restaurants and vibrant atmosphere, providing the perfect introduction to the capital of Spain.
Day 4 - Madrid
In the morning, we'll embark on an insightful tour of central Madrid. Our journey will take us through the city's renowned highlights, including Paseo del Prado, Cibeles, Neptuno, Puerta de Alcal, Plaza de Coln, and Plaza Mayor. Well also explore Retiro Park, a serene oasis in the heart of the bustling city, where you can admire the picturesque lake and the impressive Palacio de Cristal. As part of our itinerary, we'll visit the iconic Santiago Bernabu Stadium, the legendary home ground of Real Madrid, considered by many as the finest football club in the world. The remainder of the afternoon is yours to explore Madrid at your leisure. In the evening, we'll offer a convenient transfer back to your hotel.
Day 5 - Madrid - Zaragoza - Poblet - Barcelona
We will set off in the morning for the region of Aragon, traversing the scenic landscapes of Castile. Our first destination is Zaragoza, where we will admire the magnificent Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar. Following this visit, we will continue to Poblet Abbey, regarded as one of the most intact medieval monasteries globally tickets are included. Our journey concludes with an evening arrival in vibrant Barcelona, where you can begin to explore the city's vibrant atmosphere.
Day 6 - Barcelona - Girona
On Day 6, we will begin our exploration of the captivating city of Barcelona, known as the City of Counts. Situated along the Mediterranean, Barcelona is famed for its unique modernist architecture by Antoni Gaud, its lively street life along the bustling Ramblas, and its historical significance from events such as the Universal Exposition and the Olympic Games. As we stroll through this vibrant setting, you'll discover why Barcelona is celebrated as one of Europes most beautiful and intriguing capitals. In the evening, we will leave behind the vibrant cityscape and journey north into the scenic region of Catalonia. Our travels will see us arrive in the charming city of Girona. Here, before settling into our hotel, we will walk through its historic center, which boasts colourful houses, the atmospheric old Jewish quarter, and the impressive cathedral that dominates the skyline.
Day 7 - Girona - Carrieres des Lumieres - Chambery
Today, we venture into France, passing through the picturesque Provence region. Our first destination is Arles, a charming UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its connections to Van Gogh. In Arles, you'll have the opportunity to explore the town's Roman theatre and enchanting Romanesque churches, as well as enjoy some time for lunch. Afterwards, we'll visit Carrires des Lumires, an extraordinary underground art experience. This unique attraction showcases a mesmerising display of art, images, and sound within an ancient quarry. As we continue our journey, we'll arrive in Chambry for the evening. This captivating city is the historical capital of Savoy, known for its medieval charm, stunning historic centre, and impressive castle. Please note, if tickets to Carrires des Lumires are unavailable, we'll offer an alternative visit to the famed Pont du Gard, an iconic Roman aqueduct.
Day 8 - Chambery - Geneva - Gruyeres - Leysin
Today, we set off towards Switzerland, arriving in Geneva. Our exploration begins with a visit to the Palais des Nations, the European headquarters of the United Nations. From there, we stroll through the elegant English Garden to admire the renowned flower clock and take in the impressive Jet d'Eau the tallest fountain in Europe. As we continue, we reach the enchanting, fortified village of Gruyres, famed for its cheese. For those with a sweet tooth, our itinerary includes entry to the Maison Cailler Chocolate Factory, offering a delightful tasting experience. Our journey proceeds along scenic, winding roads, through idyllic mountain landscapes adorned with picturesque wooden villages en route to Chillon Castle, strikingly situated on the edge of Lake Geneva (admission included). By mid-afternoon, we arrive in Leysin, a charming resort village celebrated for its breathtaking views of the Rhne Valley and Mont Blanc, as well as its appeal as a winter sports and hiking destination. Dinner is included in our stay here. Please note, depending on availability, accommodation might be in another equally delightful Swiss alpine town such as Martigny.
Day 9 - Leysin - Interlaken - Lucerne - Zurich
Today's adventures will whisk you across Switzerland's breathtaking landscapes, starting with an ascent to Glacier 3000. A cable car ride reveals a realm where ice and snow prevail all year. Here, you can stroll across a suspended bridge linking two peaks, visit the ethereal Ice Cathedral, or enjoy the Fun Park. Afterward, we'll take a leisurely break in Interlaken for lunch. Our route then leads us to Lucerne, celebrated as one of Switzerland's most picturesque cities, offering a perfect setting to unwind in the evening before we continue to Zurich. There, you'll have time to wander through the centre's charming streets before retreating to your hotel. Please note, if weather or unforeseen circumstances close the Glacier 3000 cable car, we'll arrange an equally memorable alpine experience.
Day 10 - Zurich - Bellinzona - Como - Milan
Today, we will set off from Zurich early in the morning, embarking on a picturesque journey across the Alps into the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino. Our first stop is Bellinzona, famed for its trio of medieval castles that have earned UNESCO World Heritage status. These majestic structures stand as a testament to the town's strategic importance in years gone by. You'll have free time to explore the charming streets and take in the historical ambiance of the town centre. Our journey continues as we cross into Italy, stopping in the delightful town of Como for lunch. Known as the jewel of Lombardy, Como is celebrated for its serene lake, exquisite gardens, and spectacular cathedral. After soaking up the beauty of this region, we'll proceed to Milan. Here, our guide will lead us to the impressive Piazza del Duomo, offering you some time to wander and absorb the vibrant atmosphere before we transfer you to your hotel for a restful evening.
Day 11 - Milan - Pisa - Rome
Today, our adventure takes us to Pisa. We'll journey aboard a small tourist train to the Piazza dei Miracoli, where you'll have the opportunity to witness one of Italy's most iconic architectural ensembles, featuring the renowned Leaning Tower of Pisa. This remarkable complex is renowned worldwide for its artistic and historical significance. After taking in the sights, we'll continue our travels to the bustling city of Rome, where we will arrive later in the day, ready to rest and prepare for the next chapter of our exploration.
Day 12 - Rome
We will begin our day in Rome with a three-hour guided exploration of the Eternal City, a true testament to ancient and modern influences. Our tour combines a walking excursion through Imperial Rome with a panoramic bus ride, unveiling some of the most iconic landmarks of one of the most historically significant cities in Western civilisation. During our journey, we will visit remarkable sites such as the Arch of Constantine and admire the exteriors of the Colosseum and the Imperial Forums. Additional highlights include the Circus Maximus, the Baths of Caracalla, and the Basilica of Saint Mary Major. We will also see the Pyramid of Cestius and Castell Sant'Angelo. Our morning tour concludes approximately around 11:00 a.m. at Vatican City, where you will have the option to join an additional tour led by our guide to explore the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel. Day 13 - Rome - Florence
Today we will depart from Rome, heading north to the enchanting city of Florence, where you will be greeted by stunning landscapes along the way. Our first stop will be the breathtaking Piazzale Michelangelo, which offers panoramic views of Florence's vibrant skyline. From there, we will make our way to the historic city centre, renowned for its rich cultural heritage and artistic treasures.Upon arrival, you will have time for lunch before embarking on a guided walking tour with a local expert who will unravel the stories behind Florence's iconic landmarks. We will visit the majestic Ponte Vecchio, the impressive Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (commonly known as the Duomo), and the lively Piazza della Signoria. With a local guide, we'll explore the magnificent St. Mark's Square, a quintessential Venetian experience. Following this, we'll visit the renowned Murano Glass Factory, where you can witness the compelling artistry behind the production of this famous glass. You'll then have some free time to delve into the unique charm of Venice at your leisure. Our accommodation for the night will be in the Mestre district, offering a convenient base for your Venetian adventure.
Day 15 - Venice - Innsbruck - Salzburg
We are setting off from Venice today for a journey through the stunning alpine landscapes as we head towards Austria. Our first destination is Innsbruck, where you'll have time to explore the charming historic city centre and enjoy some lunch amidst the backdrop of the Austrian Tyrolean capital. Afterwards, we'll traverse picturesque scenic roads through the majestic mountains en route to Kitzbhel, renowned as a favoured ski resort where snow graces the landscape for much of the year. Here, you can take in the beautiful village surroundings before we continue to Salzburg, arriving by the end of the day. Please note that if our group is small, we might opt for a scenic train journey from Venice to Innsbruck, ensuring a breathtaking view of the mountains.
Day 16 - Salzburg - Lake Traunsee - Vienna
Today, we delve into the heart of Austria, starting with a visit to Salzburg, celebrated as the birthplace of Mozart. The city's Renaissance and Baroque architecture, set against the backdrop of its magnificent hilltop fortress, offers a captivating sight. As we continue our journey, well traverse the enchanting landscapes of lakes and mountains, reaching St. Wolfgang, an esteemed pilgrimage destination in Austria. Our next stop is Traunkirchen, nestled beside the scenic Lake Traunsee, where we'll enjoy a delightful cruise that showcases four of the lakes splendid castles before we disembark in Gmunden. We then make our way to the glorious city of Vienna, arriving in the evening to unwind and enjoy the citys vibrant atmosphere.
Day 17 - Vienna
Today, we'll embark on a captivating panoramic tour of Vienna with a local guide, exploring the city's grand avenues, exquisite palaces, and expansive parks, as well as its lively city centre. The afternoon is yours to discover Vienna at your own pace. In the evening, well transfer you to the Grinzing district, once a traditional wine-growing village that is now a charming part of the city. Here, you'll have the opportunity to dine at one of the local taverns, soaking in the unique Viennese atmosphere.
Day 18 - Vienna - Budapest
Following a morning departure from Vienna, we will journey for approximately three hours to reach Budapest, the captivating capital of Hungary. Our first stop will be at Vci utca, a bustling street where you will have free time to enjoy lunch and explore the vibrant surroundings. Afterwards, our exploration of Budapest begins with a scenic boat trip along the Danube River, offering a unique perspective of the city with historic Buda on one bank and the lively Pest on the other. The breathtaking views make for an unforgettable experience. Following the boat trip, we will embark on a panoramic tour of this city often referred to as the "Queen of the Danube."In the evening, you will have the opportunity to join an optional excursion to enjoy a traditional Magyar show, complete with dinner, for a taste of Hungarian culture and hospitality.
Day 19 - Budapest - Bratislava - Prague
Departing from Budapest early in the day, well set out for Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. This delightful city, nestled along the Danube, boasts a captivating historic centre waiting to be explored. Youll have the opportunity to wander its charming streets and enjoy lunch at your leisure. Post-lunch, our journey continues as we head towards the Czech Republic, reaching the enchanting city of Prague by evening. Well provide a transfer to the Old Town Square, a central hub that offers a fantastic introduction to Prague's vibrant scene and numerous tourist delights. Here, you can savour dinner at one of the many restaurants, featuring international cuisine such as Czech, Chinese, Indian, and Italian. After an enjoyable evening, well head back to the hotel.
Day 20 - Prague
On day twenty, immerse yourself in the charm of Prague, the architectural jewel of Europe. We'll commence the day with a guided panoramic tour, offering insight into the city's remarkable Baroque splendour and its most significant landmarks. Our exploration includes a visit to the iconic Prague Castle, with entry covered, providing you an opportunity to delve into its rich history. Following this, appreciate the city from a different perspective as we embark on a relaxing boat ride along the Vltava Riveralso included.
