Itinerary
Day 1 - Cajamarca - Cajabamba
Upon arrival at Cajamarca Airport, we will transfer you comfortably to your chosen hotel. A local representative will be on hand to provide useful information about the citys attractions and assist you throughout. After checking in, we begin the afternoon tour at around 2:00 pm with a visit to Santa Apolonia hill, offering panoramic views of Cajamarca. Here, you can explore remains of the Chavn culture and see the notable Inca Chairtwo stone blocks emerging from the hill. We then visit the Rescue Room, the sole Inca site in Cajamarca, where the Inca ruler Atahualpa was held captive by the Spanish for eight months before his execution in the Main Square. Next, we explore the San Francisco Church, a late 17th-century religious complex built using stone from the former residence of the local chieftain and the hills quarry. Our walk continues to the Main Square, a historically significant meeting point between the Spanish and Incas, featuring the Cathedral with its distinctive Plateresque volcanic stone faade. After the city tour, we return to the hotel for a rest. Later in the afternoon, transport will take you to the Inca Baths, a series of hot springs once used by the Inca elite as a place of relaxation. After the visit, we return to your hotel for the evening. Overnight in Cajamarca.
Day 2 - Cajamarca - Cajabamba
After breakfast, we will collect you at around 08:30 am for a visit to the Cumbemayo complex, which comprises three archaeological sites known as the aqueduct, the sanctuary and the caves, set within a striking stone forest. The aqueduct is an open channel carved into nine kilometres of volcanic rock, originally designed to channel water to Cajamarca. The sanctuary features a cliff shaped like a human head, with a low-relief crack forming its mouth, adorned with ancient engravings. Exploring the caves, you will see various drawn lines alongside anthropomorphic and feline figures. After the morning tour, we will return you to your hotel for some rest. At approximately 2:00 pm, we will take you to the Otuzco Windows, a cemetery from the early centuries AD linked to the Cajamarca culture. Here, you can observe rectangular niches carved into solid rock, some reaching up to 10 metres deep. It is believed that bodies were initially buried in the ground before certain bones and skulls were relocated to these niches. Following the visit, we will return you to your hotel for the evening.
Day 3 - Cajamarca - Cajabamba
After breakfast, we will collect you at around 08:00 am to visit the stonecutters of Huambocancha. Here, entire families practise the craft of carving detailed stone artworks, showcasing impressive skill and tradition. Next, we head to Porcn farm, a reforestation project that has transformed the area into a thriving pine forest and draws many visitors. You can stroll through the woods or choose from optional activities such as cycling, horseback riding, or experiential tourism. There is also the opportunity to sample local dishes featuring giant mushrooms cultivated on the farm (own expense). After the visit, we return to your hotel for some rest.
Day 4 - Cajamarca - Cajabamba
