Itinerary
Day 1 - Oslo
Welcome to Oslo! On arrival in the Norwegian capital, make your own way to the hotel for check in or contact us to book an arrival transfer. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Enjoy!
Day 2 - Exploring Oslo
Breakfast is served at the hotel. At 11:00am, meet your local guide in the hotel reception before departing for a three-hour sightseeing tour of this vibrant capital city. Our guided tour includes visits to Frogner Park, home to Gustav Vigeland’s remarkable sculptures, the Royal Palace, City Hall, and the historic Akershus Fortress overlooking the Oslofjord.
If you prefer to travel light, you may take advantage of an optional luggage service. With this service, your luggage will be transported directly from Oslo to Bergen and delivered to you on Day 5. As the journey between Oslo and Bergen includes two train connections and a ferry, this option can make travel more comfortable. Should you choose this service, please prepare a smaller overnight bag with essentials for your two-night stay in Balestrand. Luggage must be dropped off at the hotel reception by 6:30am.
Day 3 - Sognefjord & Flamsbana Railway
Oslo - Flam - Balestrand. It's time to journey along the majestic Sognefjord. Known as the King of the Norwegian fjords, the Sognefjord is the country’s longest, stretching an impressive 204 kilometres inland. Our day begins with a scenic cruise, taking us through the fjord’s most beautiful section – the Aurlandsfjord – a 17-kilometre arm renowned for its dramatic landscapes and tranquil waters.
We arrive in the charming village of Flam, where you will have some free time to explore at your own pace before we continue our journey by train to Myrdal. Myrdal station, perched high in the mountains about 13 kilometres from Flam, is the starting point of the world-famous Flamsbana railway. This extraordinary train ride, one of the steepest in the world, winds its way through spectacular scenery – past the historic Rallar Road, sheer mountain slopes, cascading waterfalls and no fewer than twenty tunnels. The route offers so many breathtaking viewpoints that many travellers are tempted to ride it more than once.
Day 4 - Optional Fjaerland Excursion
Today is free for you to explore the area independently. Why not join us on an optional Half Day Fjaerland Excursion which is available from 01 June to 15 Sept? We recommend that you book this excursion when you book the tour, as we cannot guarantee availability if booked upon arrival in Norway. By boat we can see amazing views of the steep mountains, lush landscape and green fjords. Fjaerland is the village where the fjord meets the glaciers. Here, we also visit the Norwegian Glacier Museum. Enjoy Ivo Caprino's panoramic film about Jostedalen Glacier and the fascinating exhibition. Continue by coach to the impressive glaciers of Supphellebreen and Bøyabreen. The excursion concludes with a scenic boat ride back to Balestrand.
Day 5 - Sognefjord to Bergen
Balestrand - Bergen. This morning we embark on a cruise to Bergen. On board we make our way through the King of Fjords - Sognefjord. With incredible views, this is a truly beautiful journey.
Upon arrival in to Bergen the rest of the day is at leisure for you to explore this famous town, including the UNESCO-listed Bryggen.
Day 6 - Exploring Bergen
After breakfast we depart on a sightseeing tour of this beautiful town. The tour takes us to the colourful fish market and for a stroll through the narrow lanes of ancient Bryggen, with the Church of Mary and the Hakon fortress. Bryggen has become a symbol of Norway's cultural heritage and it's easy to see why it has gained a place on UNESCO's World Heritage List.
There are two optional tours on offer, why not consider joining our Bergen Food Tour & Fish Market tasting, that includes a return ticket on the Floibanen Funicular. Alternatively, we also offer a Fjord Cruise to Mostraumen - see more information under "Add-ons".
Day 7 - Bergen
Our tour comes to an end after breakfast this morning. We hope you had a wonderful time in Norway with us. Consider booking an optional departure transfer with us or extending your stay in Bergen!
