Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrival in the Lofoten Islands
Once you arrive at Svolvaer Airport, you’ll be met and transferred to your rorbu, a traditional waterfront fisherman's cabin.
Among the world's most beautiful, the Lofoten Islands feature dramatic winter light, turquoise waters, rugged peaks, and fjords. A haven for artists and travellers, they offer wild landscapes and a simple way of life, with surprisingly mild temperatures thanks to the Gulf Stream.
Depending on your arrival time in Svolvaer, you may have time to explore. Take a stroll through the harbour, visit local art galleries, or enjoy a cozy café.
Day 2 - Exploring the Lofoten Islands
Svolvaer - Kabelvag - Henningsvaer - Laupstad - Gimsoy - Svolvaer. After breakfast, you will be picked up by a local guide for an included 5-hour guided tour of the Lofoten Islands, travelling through villages and settlements, which have been inhabited since Viking times. The Lofoten archipelago offers unique views, majestic nature, rugged mountains, pristine white beaches, and crystal-clear seas.
You will be exploring its old fishing villages, offering a journey through time and endless photo opportunities. You'll visit charming locations like Kabelvag, Henningsvaer, Laupstad, and Gimsoy before returning to the rorbu in Svolvaer.
Day 3 - Morning at Leisure & Cruise to Tromso
This morning is at leisure to explore Svolvaer. Stroll through the harbour or perhaps dive into the history of the area at the Lofoten War Memorial Museum. Alternatively, you can opt to join a snowshoe excursion, where you will trek through Lofoten’s snowy trails, immersing yourself in its pristine winter landscape. Guided by an expert guide, you’ll explore breathtaking scenery, enjoy the peaceful silence, and take a break to warm up with a snack before continuing your adventure.
Later in the day, you will be transferred from your accommodation to the Hurtigruten dock, where you will board a cruise to Tromso. Take the opportunity to enjoy the stunning views from the deck. With minimal light pollution, you may even witness the Northern Lights dancing in the sky and reflecting on the water.
Day 4 - Arrival in Tromso
Today, you will enjoy breakfast aboard the ship as you sail along the stunning coasts of Vesteralen and Senja toward Tromso. In 1893, Captain Richard With founded Hurtigruten, revolutionizing travel in Northern Norway. Previously, mail between Trondheim and Hammerfest took three weeks in summer and five months in winter. What began as a vital postal route has since become a national institution, with 11 ships connecting 34 coastal stops year-round.
In the afternoon, you will arrive in Tromso, where you will disembark and make your way to your accommodation. The rest of the day will be at your leisure.
Day 5 - Husky Sledding Adventure
Tromso - Kvaloya - Tromso. After breakfast, you will make your way to the city centre where you will take a transfer to Kvaloya. Here, you will enjoy a husky safari taking you through the nature of the Arctic coast in a breathtaking setting, encircled by towering white mountains and expansive fjords. Along the way, you’ll have a good chance of spotting wild animals.
After about an hour of sledding, you'll return to the farm, where you can meet the puppies and make some four-legged friends. You will then indulge in a traditional Sami dish, known as bidos, followed by coffee and cake for dessert, served in a warm Sami tent (lavvo).
Day 6 - Chasing the Northern Lights
This morning is at leisure to explore Tromso at your own pace. You could explore the Polar Museum to learn about Arctic history, or perhaps enjoy a relaxing walk through Tromso’s botanical gardens. Alternatively, you can opt to join a sami and reindeer experience or a daytime snowmobile safari, the choice is yours.
In the evening, you will embark on a guided tour to hunt for the Northern Lights. Your guide will take you to the best locations, away from city lights, offering optimal conditions to witness this spectacular natural phenomenon. With expert knowledge of the area and the aurora, your guide will help you capture the perfect view and share fascinating insights about the science behind the lights.
Please note: As the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, viewing cannot be guaratneed.
Day 7 - Tromso
This morning after your final breakfast, depending on your departure flight time, you may have some time for some last-minute Norwegian souvenirs shopping, exploring, or relaxing before your transfer to the airport for your departure flight. Safe travels!
