Day 1 - Tuxtla Gutirrez - San Cristobal - San Cristbal de las Casas
Arrive at Tuxtla Gutirrez Airport and travel to Sumidero Canyon, one of Mexicos most impressive natural wonders. This dramatic gorge, sculpted over millions of years by the Grijalva River, offers stunning scenery. We will take a two-hour boat tour along the canyons riverbed, allowing you to appreciate the towering cliffs cloaked in dense vegetation. Look out for wildlife including crocodiles, monkeys, and a variety of bird species, as well as the rich rainforest flora. After the boat excursion, we continue to San Cristbal de las Casas, where you will be dropped off at your hotel. Please ensure your flight arrives in Tuxtla Gutirrez by 13:00 to join the boat tour; later arrivals will be transferred directly to San Cristbal without the tour. Overnight in San Cristbal de las Casas.
Day 2 - San Cristobal - San Juan Chamula - San Cristobal - San Cristbal de las Casas
After breakfast, we visit San Juan Chamula, a town renowned for its whitewashed cathedral adorned with colourful decorations and a pine-scented, candlelit interior. Here, you can observe traditional religious rituals performed by the predominantly Tzotzil Maya community. The locals speak their own language and are easily recognised by their distinctive clothingmen wear tunics called chujes while women don blouses known as huipils. Chamula is also celebrated for its skilled weavers, and the shops and markets offer a wide variety of their handiwork. Please note that photography and video recording are strictly prohibited inside the temples and during rituals. On returning to San Cristbal de las Casas, you will have the afternoon free to explore at your leisure. We suggest visiting the baroque church of Santo Domingo and browsing its vibrant art and food markets, where you can admire traditional Maya clothing. Overnight in San Cristbal de las Casas.
Day 3 - San Cristobal - Palenque
We will collect you from your hotel early this morning to begin the journey to Palenque. Breakfast is served en route as we travel north-east towards some of Chiapas most stunning waterfalls. These impressive cascades are set amid natural pools with striking blue water, offering a perfect opportunity to swim and refresh yourselfdont forget your swimsuit. After enjoying time at the waterfalls, we continue to Palenque, arriving in the afternoon. Upon arrival, you will check in to your hotel and have the remainder of the day at your leisure. Day 4 - Palenque - Campeche
After breakfast, we visit the Temples of Palenque, an exceptional archaeological site showcasing some of the finest examples of Mayan architecture. The guided tour includes highlights such as intricate sculptures, roof combs and detailed bas-relief carvings. The Temple of the Inscriptions stands nearly 23 metres tall and was the burial place of a prominent Maya ruler, discovered and excavated in the early 1950s. Palenque was once a vast city-state, covering nearly 60 square kilometres, though only around 5 to 10 per cent has been excavated to date. Over 200 structures have been uncovered, including the Palace, the Temple of the Count and the Temple of the Cross. Following the tour, we continue to Campeche where you will check in to your hotel for the night.
Day 5 - Campeche - Mrida
After breakfast, we begin with a panoramic drive through Campeches historic old town, taking in its colonial houses, arcades and churches. We stop to explore on foot, visiting the ancient city walls and St Francis Cathedral. Leaving Campeche, we continue to the remarkable archaeological site of Uxmal. Here, a guided tour reveals this UNESCO World Heritage Site rising above the jungle canopy. Uxmal is unique for its preservation, having been overtaken by rainforest after the Spanish arrival. Highlights include the 35-metre Pyramid of the Magician, the intricately adorned Nunnery Quadrangle, the Governors Palace with its decorated roof, and the Great Pyramid, of which only one side has been excavated. After the tour, we travel to Mrida for a panoramic drive showcasing its key sights, including the residential neighbourhoods, the monument to the homeland and Montejo Avenue. Overnight in Mrida.
Day 6 - Mrida - Chichn-Itz
After breakfast at your hotel, we travel into the heart of the Yucatan rainforest to explore the legendary Maya city of Chichen Itza, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Discover the rich history of the Maya civilisation as you admire the impressive scale and design of this ancient site. See the 25-metre Temple of Kukulkan, also known as El Castillo, famed for its precise geometry and the optical illusion of a serpent descending its steps during the equinoxes. We also visit the Great Ball Courtthe largest of thirteen found herethe Skull Platform, where heads of sacrifice victims were displayed, and the Sacred Cenote, a natural sinkhole used for offerings. After the tour, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to your hotel in Pist, close to the archaeological site. Overnight in Chichen Itza.
Day 7 - Cancun
After breakfast, we transfer from your hotel to the Chichen Itza train station to board the Tren Maya. Enjoy a comfortable, air-conditioned journey towards Cancn Airport, taking in scenic views of the Yucatn Peninsulaincluding dense jungle, cenotes and traditional villages. This smooth and relaxing trip offers a modern way to conclude your adventure. Please note that arrival times depend on train availability, so we suggest booking flights for the following day for a stress-free departure.
