Day 1 - Mexico City
Upon your arrival in Mexico City, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel, where you can settle in and enjoy some leisure time to begin acclimatising to your new surroundings. Embark on your own exploration or simply unwind at the hotel. Later in the afternoon, our guide will get in touch with you to discuss the adventures that await. Welcome to Mexico! Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Mexico City
Our second day in Mexico City promises a wonderful introduction to the vibrant culture and rich history of the city. We begin with a comprehensive sightseeing tour that showcases the city's highlights. Our journey takes us to the Plaza of Three Cultures, an area that symbolises Mexicos unique blend of pre-Hispanic, colonial, and modern influences. We proceed to explore the historic centre, home to the Zcalo, one of the largest squares in the world, flanked by the impressive Metropolitan Cathedral and the ancient Templo Mayor, once a central Aztec temple.Continuing our tour, we pass through Chapultepec Park and traverse the grand Paseo de la Reforma Avenue, along with several other important city avenues that illustrate Mexico City's grandeur. Our exploration also includes a visit to the Basilica of Guadalupe the most visited Catholic shrine in the Americas where the sacred image of the Virgin of Guadalupe is kept. Here, you will have the opportunity to appreciate both the old basilica, which dates back to the 18th century, and the striking modern temple.In the afternoon, we venture to the enchanting neighbourhood of Xochimilco, known for its network of canals and vibrant semi-floating gardens. Here, you can enjoy a delightful ride on a colourful "trajinera" boat, absorbing the lively atmosphere.As evening falls, we whisk you off to the Plaza de Garibaldi, a bustling locale brimming with bars and restaurants offering authentic tacos and tequila, complete with lively Mariachi bands to serenade you. Dinner is included at a traditional restaurant, rounding off an enlightening and enjoyable day in this fascinating city.
Day 3 - Mexico City - El oro de hidalgo - Mine two star - Tlalpujahua - Patzcuaro
We start our day by exploring El Oro de Hidalgo, a delightful Pueblo Mgico that was once a bustling mining hub in Mexico. Here, the allure of the bygone mining industry remains visible in the European-style architecture, including the old train station and the prestigious Teatro Jurez. As we continue our journey through scenic hills and forests, keep an eye out for the monarch butterflies that migrate here during the winter. Our next stop is Mina de las Dos Estrellas, where you can delve into the rich mining culture and history at the mine-turned-museum.Following this, we head to Tlalpujahua, another charming Pueblo Mgico nestled in Michoacn. This town captivates visitors with its magnificent Baroque sanctuary and charming cobblestone streets. It's renowned for its exquisite handcrafted Christmas decorationsdon't be surprised to see glimpses of Santa Claus in many shops here. Youll have some free time to wander around and enjoy lunch at your leisure.Our day concludes in Ptzcuaro, a breathtaking colonial city known for its roots in pre-Hispanic civilisation. With its stunning colonial architecture, vibrant artisan markets, and a unique, inviting atmosphere, Ptzcuaro promises an unforgettable experience.
Day 4 - Patzcuaro - Morelia - Cuitzeo del porvenir - Guadalajara
We set off for Morelia, the capital of Michoacn, which boasts a UNESCO World Heritage Site distinction. With its stunning pink stone architecture and well-preserved historic centre, Morelia is a city of remarkable charm. Explore landmarks such as the Cathedral, Plaza de Armas, and the ancient university established in 1540. You'll have free time to wander and enjoy lunch at your leisure. Our journey then takes us to Cuitzeo del Porvenir, situated by Mexico's second-largest lake. Here, you can visit the Ex-Convent of Santa Mara Magdalena, a 16th-century architectural gem in the Plateresque style, and meander along the cobbled streets lined with historic structures. We conclude the day in Guadalajara, the lively capital of Jalisco, famed as the birthplace of Mariachi music and Tequila. We anticipate arriving in the evening.
Day 5 - Guadalajara
Today, our exploration of Guadalajara begins. We'll start in the vibrant heart of this modern metropolis, known for its charming colonial historic centre. We'll visit the city's majestic cathedral, Tapata Square, and the bustling market, offering a glimpse into the local culture and daily life. A highlight of our morning is the Cabaas Hospice, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where we'll learn about its rich history and significance.Following our city tour, we'll travel to the nearby town of Tequila the home of the celebrated Mexican spirit. Our visit includes entry to the renowned Mundo Cuervo distillery. Here, we'll discover the intricate process of tequila production with an informative tour and enjoy a tasting session. After immersing ourselves in the craft of tequila-making, you'll have free time to stroll around and enjoy lunch in this picturesque town, absorbing its unique atmosphere. In the afternoon, we will return to Guadalajara, where you can unwind and reflect on the day's experiences.
Day 6 - Guadalajara - Guanajuato
Today, we depart from Guadalajara and head to the state of Guanajuato, arriving by midday. In the afternoon, we embark on a guided exploration of this enchanting university town, recognised as a World Heritage Site. Known for its steep terrains, narrow alleyways, and historic churches, Guanajuato offers a glimpse into Mexico's vibrant past. We will enjoy a city tour, which includes a ride on the cable car. This will take us to the viewpoint at "El Ppila," where you can soak in panoramic views of the city's captivating landscape.
Day 7 - Guanajuato - Dolores Hidalgo - San Miguel de Allende - Queretaro
We'll journey through the mountains to reach Dolores Hidalgo, known as the birthplace of Mexican independence. Our next stop is the Sanctuary of Atotonilco, referred to as the "Sanctuary of God and Country" and recognised as a World Heritage Site. Please be aware that access to the interior is sometimes restricted due to ongoing retreats. We'll then head to San Miguel de Allende, a captivating World Heritage city celebrated for its exquisite colonial architecture and charming cobbled streets. You'll have some time to wander and soak in the atmosphere. Later, we'll arrive in Quertaro, famed for its splendid colonial centre, lively Plaza de Armas, and vibrant restaurants and pedestrian streets.
Day 8 - Queretaro
This morning, you'll have the freedom to explore Quertaro at your leisure. Known for its rich cultural and architectural heritage, the city was founded in 1531 and played a pivotal role in Mexicos fight for independence and the Mexican Revolution. The historic centre, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, boasts enchanting plazas, Baroque churches, and colonial edifices. Take the opportunity to wander its charming cobbled streets, vibrant squares, and admire the colourful facades. You might also want to visit the 18th-century aqueduct, explore the lush gardens, or browse the bustling markets.In the afternoon, well depart for an extraordinary theatrical experience just 40 kilometres from Quertaro. At Hacienda Atongo, a historic 17th-century estate, we will partake in a guided tour where you'll step back in time with characters from the past. Local actors will bring the haciendas history to life as we explore its main structures and vineyard. To conclude this immersive experience, you'll be treated to a refreshing drink made from the estates own wine. After the visit, we'll return to Quertaro, offering you another chance to soak up the citys unique atmosphere.
Day 9 - Queretaro
Today, we embark on a journey to San Sebastin de Bernal, a picturesque Pueblo Mgico renowned for its serene ambience at the foot of the world's third-largest monolith. This quaint town is home to talented textile artisans, and youll have the opportunity to admire their craftsmanship. Our exploration continues in Tequisquiapan, celebrated for its mineral water spas and charming colonial-style architecture. As we wander its cobbled streets, you'll discover a vibrant artisan market, famous for its intricately woven baskets and handmade goods. To enhance our experience, weve included a guided tour that delves into the areas rich history and traditions. The day wouldn't be complete without a visit to the San Patricio Winery and Bocanegra Cheese Cellar. Here, youll learn about cheese-making processes and the unique challenges of producing wine at high altitudes, all while enjoying a tasting of the delightful regional wines.
Day 10 - Queretaro - Mexico City
Today well make our way back to Mexico City, embarking on a scenic journey that will take approximately three hours by regular coach. Upon arrival, our assistant will be on hand to welcome you and escort you to your hotel, ensuring a smooth and comfortable transition.
Day 11 - Mexico City
As your journey comes to an end, enjoy a final breakfast at your hotel in Mexico City. Please note that the transfer from the hotel to the airport is not included. We trust that your adventure through Mexico has been both memorable and inspiring. Safe travels and hasta luego!
