Day 1 - Mexico City
Welcome to vibrant Mexico City! Upon arrival, a transfer will be arranged to take you to your hotel. After settling in, you'll have some free time to begin exploring this lively metropolis at your own pace. Later in the afternoon, our guide will reach out to smooth the way for the adventures awaiting you. Whether you choose to rest and rejuvenate from your journey or wander the bustling streets, Mexico City's rich tapestry of culture, history, and modern flair promises an exciting start to your travels. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Mexico City
On day two, we embark on a fascinating exploration of Mexico City and the nearby archaeological site of Teotihuacan, just 40 km from the capital. After breakfast, our journey begins at the Plaza of the Three Cultures, a striking location where ancient, colonial, and modern elements of Mexico coexist. We then proceed to the grand site of Teotihuacan, where we admire the colossal Pyramids of the Sun and Moon, stroll along the Avenue of the Dead, and explore the Temple of Quetzalpapalotl and the Citadel. A visit to a nearby artisan centre provides further insight into the rich local craftsmanship. On our return, we stop at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, a revered pilgrimage site throughout Latin America. After reaching our hotel, the remainder of the day is yours to enjoy at your own pace.
Day 3 - Mexico City - Puebla
In the morning, enjoy some leisure time in Mexico City to explore the vibrant metropolis at your own pace. After lunch, we will transfer you to the bus station for your onward journey to Puebla, situated approximately 135 km away. You will travel by standard coach, arriving at the Puebla bus station, where another transfer will take you to your hotel. In the afternoon, you have the opportunity to discover Puebla's charm, a city founded in 1531, celebrated for its exquisite colonial architecture, intricate churches, and rich historical tapestry. Known for its lively cultural scene and delicious cuisine, Puebla also boasts a buzzing university environment. Over the coming days, youre free to explore this captivating city at your leisure. Highlights to visit include the stunning cathedral, the historic Palafoxiana Librarythe first public library in the Americas, established in 1646the famous Calle de los Dulces with its traditional sweet shops, and Callejn de los Sapos, renowned for its antique stores. Overnight stay in Puebla is included.
Day 4 - Puebla
Today, we embark on a five-hour excursion with entry included to the Ex Hacienda Chautla, established in the 18th century. Known for its English-style castle set on an artificial lake against a backdrop of lush forests, Chautla offers a unique blend of natural beauty and historical charm. Well then visit Val'Quirico, a charming tourist complex designed to evoke the atmosphere of a medieval European village. Here, you can enjoy a leisurely stroll through its artisan shops and quaint cafs. Afterwards, we return to Puebla, where youll have some free time to enjoy the vibrant energy of the city. This excursion is provided as a regular service by a local tour company.
Day 5 - Puebla
Today, we embark on a captivating 6-hour excursion that showcases the cultural richness of several 'Pueblos Mgicos'. Our adventure begins in Cholula, where you'll have the chance to visit San Francisco Acatepec, Santa Mara Tonantzintla, the San Gabriel Convent, the Royal Chapel, and Soria Park. We'll climb to the Sanctuary of La Virgen de Los Remedios, which sits majestically atop the Great Pyramid, offering panoramic views.Next, we'll make our way to Chipilo, a unique community formed by Italian immigrants, renowned for its cheese production. Here, a delightful cheese tasting is included, providing a taste of the local culinary delights. Day 6 - Puebla - Oaxaca
As we make our way towards the state of Oaxaca, the journey takes us through picturesque mountainous landscapes. We anticipate reaching Oaxaca by late morning, where we will embark on an included exploration of this UNESCO World Heritage city. Originally founded by the Aztecs, Oaxaca is celebrated for its remarkable historical legacy. Following our visit to the city, we'll ascend to Monte Albn perched 400 metres above the Oaxaca Valley. As one of the most magnificent Zapotec city remnants, our visit includes tickets and a guided tour. After immersing ourselves in its archaeological wonders, we'll return to Oaxaca, leaving you free to continue your adventures in this captivating city at your leisure.
Day 7 - Oaxaca - San Pablo Villa de Mitla - Tuxtla Gutirrez
We set off early this morning, taking a brief stop in San Pablo Villa de Mitla, a charming Pueblo Mgico known for its rich cultural heritage. Here, you'll have the opportunity to wander around the alluring rustic streets and admire the 16th-century Church of San Pablo. Continuing our journey through the scenic Oaxaca mountains towards the Isthmus, we'll pause for an included lunch en route. By late afternoon, we'll arrive in Tuxtla Gutirrez, the bustling capital of the Chiapas region, where the rest of the day is yours to explore.
Day 8 - Tuxtla Gutirrez - Sumidero Canyon - Chiapa de Corzo - Zinacantn - San Juan Chamula - San Cristobal de las Casas
Today, we embark on a journey to explore the stunning Sumidero Canyon. Well take a boat ride through this magnificent natural wonder, with walls soaring nearly a kilometre high and stretching over 14 kilometres in length. Following this awe-inspiring experience, well enjoy a leisurely walk around the colonial town of Chiapa de Corzo, rich in tradition and culture. Our exploration of Mayan heritage continues as we visit charming villages inhabited by the Tzotzil community. In Zinacantn, you can admire the brightly coloured traditional dresses of the women and visit local weaving workshops and shops. In San Juan Chamula, you'll marvel at the church where Christian and pre-Columbian traditions blend uniquely during religious ceremonies. We then continue to San Cristbal de las Casas, a beautiful colonial city established in 1528, where youll have the afternoon free to explore at your own pace.
Day 9 - San Cristobal de las Casas
In San Cristobal de las Casas, we embark on an engaging eight-hour excursion with a local tour operator. Our adventure begins at Las Grutas del Mamut, named for the mammoth-like shape of its natural rock formations. This vast cave system promises to intrigue with its array of captivating geological features. Continuing our journey, we head to El Arcotete Ecotourism Park. Here, amidst verdant surroundings, we find a breathtaking natural stone archway carved by the persistent flow of the Fogtico River. This spectacular arch, along with numerous caverns, rock formations, and stalactites, offers an enthralling exploration experience.Our final destination is Rancho Nuevo Ecotourism Park, where a cave stretches over 10.2 kilometres deep. We follow an illuminated path extending 750 metres into the cavern, marvelling at the intricate stalactites and stalagmites that nature has carefully crafted over millennia. Nestled within a conifer forest, this park also offers opportunities for activities such as horseback riding, camping, hiking, and spelunking.After our return to San Cristobal de las Casas, the rest of the day is yours to explore at leisure and soak in the vibrant atmosphere of this charming city.
Day 10 - San Cristobal de las Casas
Today, we embark on a 5-hour excursion to Moxviquil, a shining example of a sustainable learning community. This vibrant area, rich in flora, invites us to partake in activities like native birdwatching, observing pollinators, exploring a stunning orchid garden, and enjoying an insightful interpretive hiking trail that brings us closer to nature.Our journey then leads us to the Museum of Maya Medicine, dedicated to conserving the healing practices of the Tsotsil-Tseltal communities in Chiapas. The museum provides an in-depth look into traditional medical practices, showcasing the techniques and therapeutic resources employed by local healers, such as the pulse reader, mountain prayer specialist, bone-setter, midwife, and herbalist.After our visit, we return to the hotel, leaving you the rest of the afternoon free to relax or explore at your leisure.
Day 11 - San Cristobal de las Casas - Tuxtla Gutirrez
On the final day of your adventure, we will arrange a transfer to Tuxtla Gutirrez airport, tailored to your flight schedule. Here, you can catch a convenient flight to Mexico City airport or continue to another destination, concluding your memorable journey.
