Day 1 - Mexico City
Welcome to Mexico City, the vibrant capital of Mexico. Upon arrival, we will ensure your comfortable transfer to the hotel, where you can unwind after your journey. You will have the rest of the day free to explore at your own pace or simply relax and acclimate to the lively atmosphere of this bustling city. Our guide will get in touch with you later in the afternoon to provide any necessary information and answer any questions you may have about the upcoming adventure. Enjoy your first day in this dynamic metropolis, rich in history and culture. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Mexico City
Today we embark on an exciting journey to explore the captivating city of Mexico City. Our day begins with a comprehensive sightseeing tour of the city, where we will discover its rich historical and cultural heritage. We start at the iconic Plaza of Three Cultures, a significant site that symbolises the blending of indigenous and Spanish influences. Continuing to the historic centre, we'll visit the Zcalo, one of the world's largest city squares, and admire the grand Metropolitan Cathedral.The tour includes a visit to the stunning remains of the main Aztec temple, offering a glimpse into Mexico's pre-Hispanic past. We'll also drive through the expansive Chapultepec Park and along the elegant Paseo de la Reforma Avenue, taking in the vibrant streets and major thoroughfares of this dynamic city.Our next stop is the Basilica of Guadalupe, the most visited Catholic site in the Americas and home to the revered image of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Here, you will have the opportunity to explore both the 18th-century old basilica and the contemporary temple, gaining insight into Mexico's religious traditions.In the afternoon, we'll journey to the charming neighbourhood of Xochimilco. Famous for its picturesque canals and lush, semi-floating gardens, you'll enjoy a delightful 'trajinera' ride on traditional flower-adorned boats. It's a wonderful way to experience the lively spirit and beauty of the area.As evening descends, we'll head to the bustling Plaza de Garibaldi, where you can soak in the lively atmosphere of bars and restaurants brimming with local flavour. Enjoy dinner in a traditional restaurant, accompanied by the energetic tunes of Mariachi bands.
Day 3 - Mexico City - El oro de hidalgo - Mine two star - Tlalpujahua - Patzcuaro
On our third day, we journey to El Oro de Hidalgo, a delightful Pueblo Mgico renowned for its rich mining heritage. Once a bustling centre for gold and silver mining, the town boasts notable European-style architecture, particularly the historic train station and Teatro Jurez. Continuing through scenic hills and forests a winter refuge for migrating monarch butterflies we visit Mina de las Dos Estrellas. This former mine, now a museum, offers intriguing insights into the areas mining past and cultural fabric. Our next stop is Tlalpujahua in Michoacn, another picturesque Pueblo Mgico, celebrated for its stunning Baroque sanctuary and charming cobblestone streets, as well as its artisanal Christmas ornaments, where the presence of Santa Claus in local shops is a delightful surprise. You'll have free time to explore and enjoy a leisurely lunch. We then make our way to Ptzcuaro, a breathtaking colonial city with deep pre-Hispanic roots. Its captivating colonial architecture, bustling artisan markets, and distinct atmosphere make it a must-visit on our journey.
Day 4 - Patzcuaro - Morelia - Cuitzeo del porvenir - Guadalajara
Today, we depart for Morelia, the capital of Michoacn and a city that has been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Morelia is famed for its stunning pink stone architecture and vibrant historic centre. Key landmarks include the impressive Cathedral, the bustling Plaza de Armas, and the city's esteemed university, which was established in 1540. During our visit, youll have some leisure time to explore the attractions at your own pace and enjoy a spot of lunch. Our journey then takes us to Cuitzeo del Porvenir, a picturesque town situated beside Mexico's second-largest lake. Here, you can visit the Ex-Convent of Santa Mara Magdalena, a 16th-century masterpiece of Plateresque architecture, and wander through the towns charming cobblestone streets filled with historical character. The day's travels will conclude in Guadalajara, the lively capital of Jalisco, celebrated as the birthplace of Mariachi music and Tequila, with our arrival anticipated in the evening.
Day 5 - Guadalajara
Today, we start our journey in Guadalajara, a modern metropolis with a rich colonial history. We'll explore the city's charming historic centre, home to noteworthy sites such as the grand cathedral, the bustling market, and Tapata Square. Our visit includes a stop at the Cabaas Hospice, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its remarkable architecture. Later in the day, we will travel to the nearby town of Tequila. Here, you'll have the opportunity to delve into the world of tequila production with a visit to the MUNDO CUERVO distillery. This experience includes both a tour and a tasting session, allowing you to learn firsthand how this iconic Mexican drink is crafted. After this insightful visit, you'll have free time to wander the charming streets of Tequila and enjoy lunch at your leisure. We will then return to Guadalajara, concluding our engaging day of exploration.
Day 6 - Guadalajara - Guanajuato
On Day 6, we'll journey into the heart of Guanajuato. Arriving by midday, you'll have some free time before we embark on an afternoon city tour. This captivating university city, recognised as a World Heritage site, is famed for its steep terrain, narrow streets, and beautiful churches. Our tour includes a ride on the cable car to "El Ppila" for a panoramic view of the cityscape. Get ready to explore the historic charm and vibrant atmosphere of Guanajuato.
Day 7 - Guanajuato - Dolores Hidalgo - San Miguel de Allende - Queretaro
Today, we journey through the scenic mountains to Dolores Hidalgo, the cradle of Mexican independence. Our exploration continues to the Sanctuary of Atotonilco, a site of both spiritual and historical significance, recognised as a World Heritage site. Note that access to the sanctuary's interior may occasionally be restricted due to ongoing retreats. Afterward, we proceed to San Miguel de Allende, renowned for its captivating colonial architecture and delightfully cobbled streets. You will have the opportunity to wander through this charming town at your own pace. Our day concludes in Quertaro, celebrated for its splendid colonial centre, vibrant Plaza de Armas, and lively dining and pedestrian areas.
Day 8 - Queretaro - Tula - Puebla
Today, we journey from Queretaro to the ancient city of Tula, once the capital of the Toltecs. Admission to its archaeological site is included, allowing us to explore the awe-inspiring Atlantean figures, four metres tall and crafted into imposing warrior statues. The area also boasts pyramids, palaces, and intricately carved columns, all testament to the sophistication of this pre-Hispanic civilisation. Moving on, we arrive in Puebla, a city celebrated for its rich culinary traditions, exquisite colonial architecture, and distinctive ceramics. Key attractions here include the magnificent Renaissance-style cathedral and the bustling main square. We'll spend the night in this vibrant and lively city, allowing you ample time to immerse yourself in its unique atmosphere.
Day 9 - Puebla - Oaxaca
We journey towards the enchanting state of Oaxaca, travelling through picturesque mountainous landscapes that offer breathtaking views. We aim to arrive by late morning in Oaxaca, a city steeped in history and recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Originally established by the Aztecs, Oaxaca is celebrated for its rich cultural heritage and we will explore its highlights during an included tour. Our next destination is Monte Albn, an awe-inspiring ancient site perched 400 metres above the Oaxaca Valley. Known as the most splendid of the Zapotec cities, your visit includes tickets and a guided tour, allowing you to delve into its historical significance. Afterwards, we return to Oaxaca, where you'll have the opportunity to wander and discover the city's vibrant charm at your own pace.
Day 10 - Oaxaca - San Pablo Villa de Mitla - Tuxtla Gutirrez
We set off early this morning, heading toward San Pablo Villa de Mitla, a delightful Pueblo Mgico. Take some time to wander around, exploring the rustic streets of this charming town and visiting the 16th-century Church of San Pablo. We then continue our journey through the stunning mountainous landscapes of Oaxaca, travelling towards the Isthmus. A lunch break will be included along the way. By late afternoon, we will arrive in Tuxtla Gutirrez, the capital city of Chiapas.
Day 11 - Tuxtla Gutirrez - Sumidero Canyon - Chiapa de Corzo - Zinacantn - San Juan Chamula - San Cristobal de las Casas
Today, we embark on an exploration of the incredible geological and cultural wonders in Tuxtla Gutirrez. First, we will cruise through the spectacular Sumidero Canyon, travelling by boat along its nearly 1 km deep and 14 km long waterway. Afterwards, we will visit the charming town of Chiapa de Corzo, renowned for its rich colonial history and cultural heritage.Our journey then takes us further into the heart of the Mayan world, where we will discover the vibrant communities of the Tzotzil people. In Zinacantn, you can admire the intricate dresses worn by the women and browse through the beautiful shops and weaving workshops. We then continue to San Juan Chamula, where the church intriguingly blends Christian beliefs with pre-Columbian rituals, offering a unique insight into the area's cultural syncretism.Our day concludes in San Cristbal de las Casas, a beautiful colonial city founded in 1528. Youll have the afternoon free to explore its charming streets and perhaps enjoy some local cuisine at your own pace.
Day 12 - San Cristobal de las Casas - Agua Azul - Misol-H - Palenque
Today, we journey through the captivating mountain landscapes of Chiapas, immersing ourselves in regions where communities have preserved their Mayan language and customs. Our first stop is Ocosingo, the regional capital, providing a glimpse into local life. We then venture to Agua Azul, where entry to the National Park is included. You'll have ample time to stroll or swim amidst the impressive array of over 50 cascading waterfalls, some towering up to 30 metres high. Lunch is included here, offering a taste of local flavours.Our adventure continues to Misol-H, a stunning waterfall that allows you to walk behind its curtain of water. Afterwards, our journey takes us to Palenque, where a delightful dinner awaits, followed by an overnight stay.Please be aware that in some cases, roadblocks may occur in Ocosingo due to local social issues. If this happens, we'll take an alternative route, visiting the city of Villahermosa and the ecological reserve of Yumka instead of our usual itinerary through Ocosingo, Agua Azul, and Misol-H.
Day 13 - Palenque - Campeche
Today, we delve into the mystical world of Palenque, an extraordinary archaeological site nestled within the lush jungle, where ancient Mayan ruins await our exploration. We will discover its remarkable temples, pyramids, and the intriguing ancient ball courts, with admission and a guided tour included for a richer understanding of this captivating history. Our adventure continues as we journey towards the Gulf of Mexico, traversing the vibrant state of Tabasco.Arriving in Campeche, a charming port city, you will be transported back in time as you stroll among its stunning colonial buildings. Here, you can marvel at the impressive 17th-century fortifications that once safeguarded the city against pirate attacks. To top off a day filled with exploration and history, we will enjoy an included dinner, offering you a taste of the regions culinary delights.
Day 14 - Campeche - Merida
We will set off for the Yucatn state, with a journey of just over two hours before arriving in Mrida. Our guided tour will introduce you to this vibrant city, celebrated for its rich blend of colonial and Maya heritage. We'll explore landmarks such as the fortified Cathedral of Mrida, the limestone Church of the Third Order, and the House of Montejoan emblem of 16th-century Plateresque colonial architecture. The afternoon is yours to discover the city further; you might consider visiting the Museum of the Maya World. In the evening, well provide a transfer to the Zcalo, where you can enjoy dinner amid the lively local atmosphere.
Day 15 - Merida - Mexico City
On Day 15, we will transfer you to the airport for your flight back to Mexico City. Upon arrival, we will provide a transfer from the airport to your hotel, where you will be accommodated for the night. This will give you time to relax and perhaps explore any last-minute sights in this vibrant metropolis before your journey draws to a close.
Day 16 - Mexico City
After enjoying your breakfast, your adventure concludes today. Note that the transfer from the hotel to the airport is not provided, so you'll need to make your own arrangements for this final leg of your journey.
