Day 1 - Mexico City
Arriving in Mexico City, you'll be greeted with a warm welcome and transferred to your hotel, setting the stage for your adventure in this vibrant capital. Once settled in, enjoy some leisure time to explore at your own pace. In the evening, our guide will reach out to provide useful information and help answer any questions you might have, ensuring you're well-prepared for the days ahead. Day 2 - Mexico City
Our second day in Mexico City is an exciting opportunity to immerse ourselves in the vibrant culture and rich history of this impressive metropolis. We'll embark on a comprehensive sightseeing tour, starting with a visit to the Plaza of Three Cultures, a symbolic site where pre-Hispanic, colonial, and modern Mexico converge. Our exploration of the historic centre will take us to the Zcalo, the city's main square, and the magnificent Metropolitan Cathedral. We'll also visit the remains of the main Aztec temple, providing a glimpse into the city's ancient past. As we drive through Chapultepec Park, we'll also pass along the famed Paseo de la Reforma Avenue and other key thoroughfares that reflect the dynamic spirit of the city.Our next stop is the Basilica of Guadalupe, the most visited Catholic shrine in the Americas, where we'll explore both the 18th-century old basilica and the modern temple dedicated to the revered Virgin of Guadalupe. In the afternoon, we head to the charming neighbourhood of Xochimilco. Known for its picturesque canals and semi-floating gardens, you'll enjoy a delightful ride on a 'trajinera', a vibrantly decorated boat that offers a unique perspective of this UNESCO World Heritage site.As evening descends, we'll make our way to Plaza de Garibaldi, the lively heart of mariachi music. Here, you'll have the chance to soak in the festive atmosphere, indulge in traditional Mexican cuisine with a dinner at a local restaurant, and experience the joy of mariachi performances. This is sure to be an unforgettable day full of cultural discovery and vibrant experiences in the bustling heart of Mexico.
Day 3 - Mexico City - El oro de hidalgo - Mine two star - Tlalpujahua - Patzcuaro
On our third day, we will venture to El Oro de Hidalgo, a captivating Pueblo Mgico, historically significant as one of Mexico's prime mining hubs. Here, gold and silver mining drew in a global workforce and investment, which can be seen in its European-influenced architecture. Notable sites include the old train station and the Jurez Theatre. Our journey continues through scenic hill and forest landscapes known for hosting migrating monarch butterflies in the winter. We shall visit Mina Dos Estrellas, a former mine now serving as a museum that vividly showcases the area's rich mining legacy.Our next stop is Tlalpujahua, another Pueblo Mgico in the state of Michoacn, renowned for its Baroque sanctuary and quaint cobblestone streets. This town is delightful, especially with its unique focus on handcrafted Christmas decorations you might even spot Santa Claus in the local shops. Youll have some free time here to explore and enjoy lunch at your leisure.From there, we proceed to Ptzcuaro, celebrated for its beautiful colonial architecture, vibrant artisan markets, and remarkable pre-Hispanic history. The town's distinctive atmosphere makes it a destination that lingers in memory.
Day 4 - Patzcuaro - Morelia - Cuitzeo del porvenir - Guadalajara
On our fourth day, we set off for Morelia, the capital of Michoacn and a city acclaimed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's celebrated for its remarkable pink stone architecture and historic centre, where you'll find the Cathedral, Plaza de Armas, and a university established as far back as 1540. You'll have free time to wander and savour lunch in this distinctive setting. Our adventure continues as we travel to Cuitzeo del Porvenir, which rests beside Mexico's second-largest lake. Here, you can explore the Ex-Convent of Santa Mara Magdalena, a 16th-century Plateresque masterpiece, and stroll its charming cobbled streets, lined with historic buildings. We will then proceed to Guadalajara, the lively capital of Jalisco, renowned as the birthplace of both Mariachi music and Tequila. We anticipate arriving in the evening.
Day 5 - Guadalajara
In the morning, we will explore Guadalajara, a modern metropolis contrasted by its colonial historic centre. Our tour includes visits to the impressive cathedral, the bustling market, and Tapata Square. A highlight is our entrance to the Cabaas Hospice, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its splendid architecture and murals by Jos Clemente Orozco. Following our exploration of Guadalajara, we will journey to the nearby town of Tequila. Here, we will enter the MUNDO CUERVO Distillery to uncover the intricate artisanal process of crafting Mexico's most iconic spirit. The tour includes both entrance and a tasting experience. Afterwards, you'll have leisure time to wander and enjoy lunch in the charming streets of Tequila, soaking in the local ambience before we return to Guadalajara in the afternoon.
Day 6 - Guadalajara - Guanajuato
Today we journey to the vibrant state of Guanajuato. Our arrival is set for midday, leaving you with ample time to enjoy the afternoon. Together, we will explore this stunning university city, which has been designated a World Heritage site. Known for its breathtaking architecture and charming streets, Guanajuato boasts steep slopes and narrow cobbled paths that lead to enchanting churches. Our day includes a ride on the cable car, offering spectacular views over the cityscape from the famous "El Ppila" monument. This excursion promises not only picturesque vistas but also a glimpse into the rich history and culture that permeates every corner of this remarkable city.
Day 7 - Guanajuato - Dolores Hidalgo - San Miguel de Allende - Queretaro
Today, we journey through the breathtaking mountains to Dolores Hidalgo, the birthplace of Mexican independence. We then head to the Sanctuary of Atotonilco, aptly named the "Sanctuary of God and Country," a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Please note that on rare occasions, the interior may be inaccessible due to ongoing retreats. Our exploration continues in San Miguel de Allende, a stunning city renowned for its colonial architecture and charming cobbled streets, also recognised as a World Heritage Site. You'll have ample time to wander and soak in the unique atmosphere. Later, we reach Queretaro, celebrated for its beautiful colonial centre, vibrant Plaza de Armas, and lively dining and pedestrian streets.
Day 8 - Queretaro - Tula - Puebla
We depart for Tula, once the thriving capital of the Toltec civilisation. Admission to its archaeological site is included, where the main attraction is the formidable Atlantean figuresfour-metre-tall warrior statues that stand sentinel over the landscape. Explore the pyramids, palaces, and intricately carved columns that speak of the sophisticated artistry and architecture of this pre-Hispanic culture. Our journey then takes us to Puebla, a city celebrated for its rich culinary heritage, colonial architecture, and renowned ceramics. The city's Renaissance-style cathedral and vibrant main square are certain highlights. We will spend the night in this lively and vibrant city, allowing you to further immerse yourself in its culture and charm.
Day 9 - Puebla - Oaxaca
We'll set off for Oaxaca, journeying through captivating mountainous landscapes to reach the state by late morning. Here, you'll experience the rich historical tapestry of Oaxaca City, a UNESCO World Heritage site originally established by the Aztecs. This vibrant city is renowned for its impressive cultural legacy, and well have the opportunity to explore some of its remarkable heritage.Our adventure continues as we ascend to Monte Albn, perched on a summit 400 metres above the Oaxaca Valley. This ancient Zapotec city provides a spectacular glimpse into pre-Hispanic life, with its terraces, temples, and tunnels. The visit includes tickets and a guided tour to ensure a comprehensive understanding of this magnificent site.After our exploration, well return to Oaxaca where you have the freedom to wander the charming streets, perhaps visiting its bustling markets or quaint cafes. Enjoy the rest of your day delving deeper into the captivating culture and inviting atmosphere of this remarkable city.
Day 10 - Oaxaca - San Pablo Villa de Mitla - Tuxtla Gutirrez
We'll set off early in the morning, making a brief stop in San Pablo Villa de Mitla, renowned for its Pueblo Mgico status. You'll have the chance to wander around and admire the 16th-century Church of San Pablo along with the charming rustic streets. Continuing our journey through the picturesque mountains of Oaxaca, we'll head towards the Isthmus. You can look forward to an included lunch along the way. By late afternoon, we'll arrive in Tuxtla Gutirrez, the capital of the state of Chiapas, where you'll have time to unwind after a day of travel.
Day 11 - Tuxtla Gutirrez - Sumidero Canyon - Chiapa de Corzo - Zinacantn - San Juan Chamula - San Cristobal de las Casas
Today we embark on an adventurous exploration of Sumidero Canyon. A boat ride takes us up this breathtaking canyon, nearly a kilometre deep and 14 kilometres long, offering spectacular views of towering rock formations and diverse flora and fauna. Following our river adventure, we take a leisurely walk through Chiapa de Corzo, a charming colonial town rich in tradition and culture.As we delve deeper into the heart of the Mayan world, we visit vibrant Tzotzil Indian communities. Our first stop is Zinacantn, where you can admire the local womens traditional dress and explore colourful shops featuring exquisite weaving workshops. In San Juan Chamula, you will be astonished by the towns unique church, where Christian and pre-Columbian practises blend seamlessly in the rituals.We continue to San Cristbal de las Casas, a beautiful colonial city established in 1528. Upon arrival, you have the rest of the afternoon free to meander along the cobblestone streets, soak in the vibrant atmosphere, or simply relax in this historic and picturesque locale.
Day 12 - San Cristobal de las Casas
Today, we embark on an enriching eight-hour journey with a local tour operator from San Cristobal de las Casas. Our first destination is Las Grutas del Mamut, a magnificent cave system named after its rock formations, which resemble a prehistoric mammoth. The impressive formations are sure to leave you mesmerised. Next, we head to El Arcotete Ecotourism Park, a stunning area teeming with diverse vegetation and a wealth of wildlife. This park features a remarkable natural stone archway, shaped over countless years by the Fogtico River, blending natural arches with caves filled with intriguing caverns and stalactites.Our adventure continues to Rancho Nuevo Ecotourism Park, which boasts a cave that extends over 10.2 kilometres and plunges to depths of up to 550 metres. Here, you can follow an illuminated path that takes you 750 metres into the cave, revealing the striking stalactites and stalagmites. Situated in a serene conifer forest, the park also offers opportunities for horseback riding, camping, hiking, and spelunking.We'll return to San Cristobal de las Casas later in the day, allowing you some free time to relax and explore this charming town at your own pace.
Day 13 - San Cristobal de las Casas
Today offers a fascinating 5-hour excursion with a local tour operator to Moxviquil, a place committed to sustainability and education. Here, we will encounter dense vegetation that provides a sanctuary for native birds, pollinators, and insects. You will have the opportunity to explore the enchanting orchid garden and participate in an interpretive hiking trail designed to create a meaningful connection with nature.Following this, we will visit the Museum of Maya Medicine. This museum is devoted to preserving the traditional healing practices of the Tsotsil-Tseltal communities in Chiapas. Inside, youll discover various displays illustrating the medical customs, techniques, and tools used by local healers, such as the pulse reader (Jilol), mountain prayer specialist (Koponej witz), bone-setter (Tzakbak), midwife (Jvetome), and herbalist (Acvomol).After our visits, we will return to our hotel in San Cristobal de las Casas. The afternoon is yours to enjoy at your own pace, providing a perfect opportunity to reflect on the day's enriching experiences.
Day 14 - San Cristobal de las Casas - Tuxtla Gutirrez
As your journey comes to a close, we'll ensure your smooth transfer to Tuxtla Gutirrez Airport according to your flight schedule. From here, you can catch the most suitable flight, not included in the tour, to Mexico City or another chosen destination.
