Day 1 - Mexico City
Welcome to Mexico! Upon your arrival in the vibrant heart of Mexico City, you'll be transferred to your hotel. Once settled, take advantage of some free time to start exploring at your own pace or simply relax. Later in the day, our guide will reach out to provide you with the necessary details for the journey ahead. Enjoy your first evening in this lively metropolis full of rich history and cultural diversity. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Mexico City
Today, we'll immerse ourselves in the captivating sights of Mexico City. Our day begins with an informative sightseeing tour, where we'll discover the Plaza of Three Cultures and the historic city centre. Here, you'll see the iconic Zcalo, the main square, alongside the Metropolitan Cathedral and the remnants of the main Aztec temple. We'll also explore Chapultepec Park and the fascinating Paseo de la Reforma, along with other key thoroughfares that showcase the grandeur of this remarkable city.After exploring these cultural landmarks, we'll visit the Basilica of Guadalupe, which draws visitors from all over the Americas. You'll have the chance to explore both the historical 18th-century basilica and the modern temple dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe.In the afternoon, we'll head to the charming neighbourhood of Xochimilco, renowned for its canals and semi-floating gardens. Experience this unique place with a delightful ride in a "trajinera," a traditional, flower-adorned boat.As evening approaches, we'll transfer to Plaza de Garibaldi, alive with vibrant bars and restaurants. Here, you can indulge in tacos and tequila while enjoying the festive performances of Mariachi musicians. Dinner will be served in a traditional setting, rounding off our dynamic day in this vibrant capital.
Day 3 - Mexico City - Cholula - Puebla
On the third day of our journey, we set off from Mexico City towards the state of Puebla. Along the way, we'll stop to explore the Ex-Hacienda de Chautla. Established in the 18th century, this site is renowned for its English-style castle, beautifully set upon an artificial lake and surrounded by lush forests. Our adventure continues as we arrive in the delightful town of Cholula. Here, you can wander through the lovely plaza and visit the picturesque Church of Nuestra Seora de los Remedios, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. We then proceed to Puebla, a bustling city with a population of 1.5 million, where tradition and modernity coexist. Known for its remarkable colonial and Baroque architecture, Puebla is home to the impressive Cathedral and the exquisite Rosary Chapel. We will spend the night in this lively and dynamic city.
Day 4 - Puebla - Oaxaca
Today, we set off from Puebla towards the captivating state of Oaxaca, journeying through picturesque mountainous landscapes. Our destination is the UNESCO World Heritage city of Oaxaca, originally established by the Aztecs and celebrated for its remarkable historical significance. Upon our late morning arrival, we will enjoy a guided tour that reveals the city's rich heritage. Following this, we'll ascend to Monte Albn, a breathtaking ancient city perched 400 metres above the Oaxaca Valley; entry and a guided tour are included. Monte Albn is renowned as the most striking of the Zapotec sites, offering an exhilarating glimpse into ancient civilisations. After our exploration, we'll return to Oaxaca, where you have the afternoon free to further discover this enchanting city at your leisure.
Day 5 - Oaxaca - San Pablo Villa de Mitla - Tuxtla Gutirrez
We set off early this morning, making a brief stop in San Pablo Villa de Mitla, a charming town designated as a Pueblo Mgico. You'll have the opportunity for a leisurely stroll near the 16th-century Church of San Pablo and along its quaint, rustic streets. Our journey continues through the picturesque mountains of Oaxaca towards the Isthmus, with lunch provided along the way. By late afternoon, we'll arrive in Tuxtla Gutirrez, the capital of the state of Chiapas, ready for the adventures that await.
Day 6 - Tuxtla Gutirrez - Sumidero Canyon - Chiapa de Corzo - Zinacantn - San Juan Chamula - San Cristobal de las Casas
Today, we will embark on a journey into the stunning natural beauty of Sumidero Canyon. We will navigate the canyon's dramatic landscapes by boat, marvelling at its towering walls that rise nearly a kilometre high and stretch an impressive 14 kilometres. Following this adventure, we will take a leisurely walk through Chiapa de Corzo, a charming colonial town steeped in tradition and culture.Our journey continues as we delve deeper into the Mayan culture, exploring villages that are home to the Tzotzil people. In Zinacantn, we will admire the beautiful traditional dresses of the women and visit shops and weaving workshops, providing a glimpse into the rich textile heritage of the region. Next, we will move on to San Juan Chamula, where the unique church rituals blend Christianity with pre-Columbian traditions, offering a fascinating cultural insight.We will make our way to San Cristbal de las Casas, a picturesque colonial city founded in 1528. The afternoon will be yours to explore the enchanting streets and soak up the vibrant atmosphere at your own pace.
Day 7 - San Cristobal de las Casas - Agua Azul - Misol-H - Palenque
Today, we embark on an adventure through the stunning mountain landscapes of Chiapas, exploring regions where indigenous communities continue to preserve their Mayan languages and traditions. Our first stop is in Ocosingo, the regional capital, providing a glimpse into local life. We then head to Agua Azul, where entrance to the National Park is included. Here, you'll have the chance to admire or swim amidst over 50 cascades, ranging from three to 30 metres high. After lunch, included in our visit, we continue to Misol-H, known for its impressive waterfall path that leads behind the cascading waters. Our journey concludes in Palenque, where dinner and accommodation await. Please note, due to local social issues, there may be occasional roadblocks in the area of Ocosingo. Should this occur, we'll take an alternative route and visit the City of Villahermosa and the Yumka ecological reserve instead of Ocosingo, Agua Azul, and Misol-H.
Day 8 - Palenque - Campeche
Today, we delve into the fascinating world of Palenque, an extraordinary Mayan city nestled amidst lush jungle. Our visit includes access and a guided tour of its notable structures, such as temples, pyramids, and an ancient ball court. Following our exploration, we journey towards the Gulf of Mexico, passing through the state of Tabasco to reach the coastal city of Campeche. Known for its rich colonial architecture and 17th-century fortifications, Campeche offers a glimpse into the past with structures designed to repel pirate invasions. In the evening, enjoy an included dinner in this charming Mexican port city.
Day 9 - Campeche - Merida
Today, we journey into the heart of the Yucatn Peninsula, heading towards the lively city of Mrida. The drive takes just over two hours, delivering us into a city known for its rich blend of colonial and Maya traditions. Our day begins with a guided exploration of Mrida, where we will discover its significant landmarks including the heavily fortified Cathedral of Mrida, the stately Church of the Third Order, and the historic House of Montejoa masterpiece of 16th-century Plateresque architecture.Following our tour, you have the afternoon to yourself. We recommend a visit to the Museum of the Maya World, providing a deeper insight into the regions historical tapestry. As the evening falls, we arrange a transfer to the vibrant Zcalo, where you can indulge in local cuisine amidst the bustling ambience of the square. Enjoy dinner and absorb the unique cultural atmosphere of Mrida at your leisure.
Day 10 - Merida - Mexico City
On day 10, we will facilitate your transfer to Mrida Airport for your flight back to Mexico City. Upon arrival in the capital, airport transfer to your hotel will be arranged, where you'll settle in for your accommodation. You have the rest of the day at your leisure to explore the vibrant city or simply unwind after your journey.
Day 11 - Mexico City
After enjoying breakfast on your final day, our services conclude. While a transfer from the hotel to the airport is not included, we recommend making your arrangements to ensure a smooth and timely departure. Safe travels as you embark on your onward journey!
