Day 1 - Mexico City
Welcome to Mexico City! After your arrival, we'll arrange your transfer to the hotel where you can settle in and relax. Enjoy some free time discovering this vibrant city at your own pace. In the late afternoon, our guide will reach out to you to offer some insider tips and answer any questions you may have about the days ahead. Get ready to embrace the lively energy of Mexico City and prepare for an unforgettable journey. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Mexico City
Today's adventure in Mexico City offers a vibrant mix of culture, history, and local charm. We begin our day with a guided sightseeing tour, exploring the heart of the city. Highlights include the Plaza of Three Cultures and the historic centre, where you'll find the impressive Zcalo, the grand Metropolitan Cathedral, and the remnants of the main Aztec temple. We'll stroll through Chapultepec Park and along the Paseo de la Reforma, one of the city's major avenues, before making our way to the Basilica of Guadalupe. This iconic Catholic shrine, featuring both an 18th-century basilica and a modern temple, is one of the most visited in the Americas.In the afternoon, we travel to the vibrant neighbourhood of Xochimilco. Here, well enjoy a relaxing ride on a traditional trajinera boat, adorned with colourful flowers as it glides along the enchanting canals and semi-floating gardens. As evening approaches, we head to the lively Plaza de Garibaldi, famous for its multitude of bars and restaurants serving tacos and tequila, accompanied by the lively sounds of Mariachi bands. This experience is capped off with dinner in a traditional local restaurant, providing the perfect end to a captivating day in Mexico City.
Day 3 - Mexico City - El oro de hidalgo - Mine two star - Tlalpujahua - Patzcuaro
Today, we embark on a journey to El Oro de Hidalgo, a quaint Pueblo Mgico known for its mining heritage. Once a major hub for gold and silver mining, this town attracted people from around the globe, resulting in European-style architecture, which you can see in places like the historic train station and Teatro Jurez. We then proceed through scenic hills and forests, an area where monarch butterflies migrate during the winter, to our next destination, Mina de las Dos Estrellas. This former mine, now a museum, offers fascinating insights into the regions mining history and culture.Our adventure continues to Tlalpujahua, another charming Pueblo Mgico located in Michoacn. Famous for its Baroque-style sanctuary and quaint cobblestone streets, this town is renowned for its handcrafted Christmas decorations. You'll have some free time to explore, perhaps encountering Santa Claus in one of the delightful shops, and to enjoy a leisurely lunch. Later, we make our way to Ptzcuaro, one of Mexico's most beautiful colonial cities. With its rich pre-Hispanic and colonial architecture, vibrant artisan markets, and unique atmosphere, Ptzcuaro promises to be an unforgettable experience.
Day 4 - Patzcuaro - Morelia - Cuitzeo del porvenir - Guadalajara
Today, we set off for Morelia, the capital of Michoacn, a city acclaimed for its exquisite pink stone architecture and historic centre, earning it a designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our highlights here include a visit to the Cathedral, the Plaza de Armas, and the university, one of the oldest in the Americas, founded in 1540. Youll have some free time to explore Morelia further and enjoy lunch at your leisure. We then proceed to Cuitzeo del Porvenir, a picturesque town by Mexicos second-largest lake. Cuitzeo is known for the 16th-century Ex-Convent of Santa Mara Magdalena, an impressive Plateresque-style building. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the towns charming cobblestone streets, lined with historic edifices, before we continue on to Guadalajara. This vibrant colonial city, renowned as the birthplace of Mariachi music and Tequila, welcomes us this evening with its lively atmosphere.
Day 5 - Guadalajara
We are set for a lively exploration of Guadalajara in the morning, delving into this modern metropolis with its rich colonial history. Our visit includes the city's impressive cathedral, bustling market, and the vibrant Tapata Square. You'll step inside the Cabaas Hospice, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to marvel at its architectural beauty. Next, we travel to the town of Tequila, famed for its eponymous spirit. Here, we include a visit to the Mundo Cuervo distillery where we'll discover how this iconic Mexican drink is crafted, complete with a tasting session. Following our distillery visit, you'll have time to wander through the charming streets of Tequila and enjoy lunch at your leisure. After lunch, we'll return to Guadalajara for a relaxing evening.
Day 6 - Guadalajara - Chihuahua
Today, enjoy a leisurely morning in Guadalajara with some free time to explore the city at your own pace before your scheduled transfer to the airport. Upon arrival at Chihuahua airport, you will be greeted by a representative who will escort you to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day discovering Chihuahua, the state capital, renowned for its rich history and nearly one million inhabitants. Founded in 1709 by Antonio Deza y Ulloa, Chihuahua played a pivotal role in the Mexican Revolution, with notable figures such as Pancho Villa leaving their mark on the city. Feel free to explore its historical offerings and vibrant streets.
Day 7 - Chihuahua
You will begin your day with a guided city tour of Chihuahua after meeting your guide in the hotel lobby. This tour includes visits to significant cultural and historical sites such as the Pancho Villa Museum and the grand Cathedral. You will also explore the Quinta Gameros Museum, the Government Palace, and the city's historic residential neighbourhoods. These stops offer a glimpse into the local history and architecture, deepening your understanding of Chihuahua's vibrant past and cultural legacy. Enjoy the diverse character and charm of this fascinating city.
Day 8 - Chihuahua - Creel
After breakfast, we journey through picturesque landscapes featuring majestic mountains and dense forests, passing through towns inhabited by Mennonite communities. Travelling 260 km, we arrive in Creel, a charming Pueblo Mgico often referred to as the gateway to the Copper Canyon. In Creel, we embark on an explorative tour that takes us to the serene Lake Arareko, the historic San Ignacio Mission, and the Tarahumara caves homes still utilised by local families. Our tour also includes a visit to the unique rock formations found in the Valley of Mushrooms and Frogs, providing a fascinating glimpse into the natural beauty of this region.
Day 9 - Creel - Divisadero
Today, our journey takes us through breathtaking landscapes as we travel 130 km to explore the area further. We'll start by visiting the impressive Piedra Volada Falls and an Adventure Park filled with thrilling options. Here, you can make the most of your time by choosing activities like a cable car ride, ziplines, ATVs, or guided hiking tours led by knowledgeable Tarahumara guides. These activities are optional, and tickets can be purchased at the park entrance.After a delightful lunch, which is provided, we'll take a guided walk to enjoy the panoramic views of the canyon and visit a traditional Tarahumara cave, offering insights into local culture. Our day concludes as we head back to the hotel, where a delicious dinner awaits you.
Day 10 - Divisadero - Chepe express - El fuerte
Today, we'll embark on an unforgettable journey aboard the Chepe Express, renowned as one of the world's most breathtaking tourist trains. As the train departs, it traverses the dramatic landscapes of the Copper Canyon, delving deep into the mountain ranges. You'll witness the engineering marvels as we navigate through challenging terrains with 86 awe-inspiring tunnels and 37 remarkable bridges spanning powerful rivers. Throughout the journey, you'll be captivated by some of the most jaw-dropping views the region has to offer, including the highest bridge on the route and the longest tunnel, aptly called the "El Descanso."Our adventure culminates at El Fuerte station. Upon arrival, a representative will greet you and accompany you to your hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure. We recommend a leisurely walk to explore the colonial charm of the historic centre or a peaceful stroll along the scenic banks of the Fuerte River.
Day 11 - El fuerte - Los mochis
After a relaxed morning in El Fuerte, take the opportunity to embark on some self-guided activities. We suggest a serene raft ride along the Fuerte River or visiting the ancient petroglyphs, which are nearly 2,500 years old. Alternatively, explore a local Mayo-Yoreme village, where you can delve into indigenous customs. You might visit a family home to witness the renowned Deer Dance and participate in making handmade tortillas with the hostess, sampling them with traditional regional dishes for an authentic experience. These tours, although suggested, are optional and not included in the itinerary. At 2:00 p.m., well transfer you from El Fuerte to Los Mochis, a journey that takes about an hour. On arrival, youll have a free afternoon to explore at your leisure. We recommend visiting Topolobampo Bay and the Maviri Island Gastronomic Centre, where you can indulge in the local seafood specialities and enjoy some sun and beach time (not included).
Day 12 - Los mochis
As your adventure draws to a close, we will ensure a seamless experience by arranging your transfer to Los Mochis Airport, timed perfectly with your flight schedule. Safe travels and fond memories await as you embark on your next journey.
