Day 1 - Mexico City
Welcome to Mexico! Upon your arrival in Mexico City, you'll be transferred to your hotel where you can settle in and enjoy some free time. Later in the afternoon, our guide will reach out to you for a brief orientation. Take this opportunity to relax and acclimatise, exploring the vibrant surroundings of this bustling metropolis at your leisure. Whether you choose to stroll around the area or simply unwind, let yourself soak in the vibrant atmosphere of Mexico City. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Mexico City
Today, we immerse ourselves in the vibrant culture and history of Mexico City with a guided tour to explore its most iconic sites. Our journey begins at the Plaza of Three Cultures, a place that encapsulates the city's rich heritage with its blend of pre-Hispanic, colonial, and modern architecture. We then venture into the historical heart of the city, the Zcalo, where the grand Metropolitan Cathedral and the ancient Aztec temple stand as testaments to Mexico's layered history. Our exploration continues through the expansive Chapultepec Park and along the impressive Paseo de la Reforma, providing a glimpse into Mexico City's dynamic urban landscape.Our next destination is the Basilica of Guadalupe, a revered site that draws millions of visitors as the most visited Catholic temple in the Americas. Here, we admire the blend of the old basilica from the 18th century alongside the contemporary temple. In the afternoon, we head to Xochimilco, a unique neighbourhood known for its network of canals and semi-floating gardens. We include a serene ride aboard a "trajinera," a traditional, flower-adorned boat, offering a perfect way to soak in the tranquil setting.As evening falls, we transfer you to the lively Plaza de Garibaldi. Known for its vibrant atmosphere, this area is a hotspot for Mariachi music and offers numerous bars and restaurants. We cap our day with an included dinner at a traditional restaurant, savouring the local flavours of tacos and tequila while enjoying the melodies of Mariachi bands.
Day 3 - Mexico City - El oro de hidalgo - Mine two star - Tlalpujahua - Patzcuaro
On our third day, we set off to explore El Oro de Hidalgo, a delightful Pueblo Mgico with a rich mining heritage. Once a thriving centre for gold and silver mining, this town showcases its past through European-style architecture, including the historic train station and Teatro Jurez. Our journey continues through scenic hills and forests, home to monarch butterflies during the winter months, as we visit Mina de las Dos Estrellas. This former mine now serves as a museum, highlighting the areas significant mining history and culture. Next, we venture to Tlalpujahua, another enchanting Pueblo Mgico in Michoacn. Here, youll find a magnificent Baroque sanctuary and quaint cobblestone streets. Known for its exquisite handcrafted Christmas decorations, Tlalpujahua surprises with festive shops adorned with Santa Claus figurines. You have free time to wander and find a spot for lunch. Our day culminates in Ptzcuaro, recognised as one of Mexicos most stunning colonial cities. With roots dating back to pre-Hispanic times, its captivating colonial architecture, vibrant artisan markets, and distinct atmosphere ensure a memorable visit.
Day 4 - Patzcuaro - Morelia - Cuitzeo del porvenir - Guadalajara
Today, we leave for Morelia, the capital of Michoacn, famed for its exquisite pink stone architecture and a historic centre that has earned it the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll have ample time to admire Morelia's landmarks, such as its grand Cathedral, the vibrant Plaza de Armas, and the University, which dates back to 1540, all at your leisurely pace during your free time. After enjoying lunch, we will continue our journey to Cuitzeo del Porvenir, set beside Mexicos second-largest lake. Here, discover the town's rich history with a visit to the Ex-Convent of Santa Mara Magdalena, a stunning example of Plateresque architecture from the 16th century. Stroll through its cobbled streets lined with charming historic buildings. Our day concludes as we arrive in Guadalajara, the dynamic capital of Jalisco, renowned as the birthplace of both Mariachi music and Tequila. We anticipate reaching Guadalajara by evening, where the city's vibrant culture awaits.
Day 5 - Guadalajara
Today, we begin our exploration of Guadalajara, a modern city that beautifully preserves its colonial heritage. Our morning includes a visit to the city's historical centre, where we will admire landmarks such as the cathedral, the bustling market, and the Tapata Square. We'll then explore the Cabaas Hospice, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its stunning murals.After our morning in Guadalajara, we'll journey to the nearby town of Tequila, famous for its namesake beverage. Here, we'll tour the Mundo Cuervo distillery, where you'll witness the craftsmanship involved in producing this iconic Mexican spirit. The tour includes both an entrance and a tasting experience. Following this, you'll have time to enjoy a leisurely stroll and possibly an exquisite lunch in the charming town of Tequila. We will then return to Guadalajara in the afternoon.
Day 6 - Guadalajara - Guanajuato
We journey to the captivating state of Guanajuato, arriving by midday. In the afternoon, we have arranged a comprehensive city tour of this picturesque university city, which is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With its steep slopes, narrow alleys, and stunning churches, Guanajuato is rich in history and charm. Included in our exploration is an exhilarating cable car ride to 'El Ppila', where you can take in the breathtaking panoramic views of the city.
Day 7 - Guanajuato - Dolores Hidalgo - San Miguel de Allende - Queretaro
On Day 7, we journey through the scenic mountains to reach Dolores Hidalgo, a historically significant town known as the birthplace of Mexico's independence movement. We continue to the Sanctuary of Atotonilco, aptly named "Sanctuary of God and Country", and recognised as a World Heritage Site. Be aware that, on occasion, interior visits may be restricted due to ongoing retreats. Our exploration then takes us to San Miguel de Allende, another stunning World Heritage city, famed for its colonial architecture and quaint cobblestone streets. You'll have time to wander and immerse yourself in the local charm. We end the day in Quertaro, celebrated for its exceptional colonial centre, vibrant Plaza de Armas, and bustling restaurants dotted along its pedestrian walkways.
Day 8 - Queretaro - Tula - Puebla
Today we set off for Tula, the ancient capital of the Toltec civilisation. Entrance to its archaeological site is included, allowing us a closer look at the impressive features of this historic location. The highlight here is the Atlantean figures, which are imposing warrior statues standing four metres tall. You will also have the chance to explore pyramids, palaces, and intricately carved columns, all of which showcase the advanced culture and craftsmanship of this pre-Hispanic society. Following our visit, we travel onward to the city of Puebla. Known for its rich culinary heritage, stunning colonial architecture, and vibrant ceramics, Puebla is a fascinating destination. Among its many attractions, the Renaissance-style cathedral and bustling main square are particularly noteworthy. We'll spend the night in this lively city, giving you the opportunity to immerse yourself in its unique charm.
Day 9 - Puebla - Oaxaca
As we journey towards the state of Oaxaca, be prepared for a scenic drive through stunning mountain landscapes. By late morning, we'll arrive in Oaxaca, a UNESCO World Heritage city with a rich Aztec history and remarkable cultural legacy. Our itinerary includes an exploration of Monte Albn, perched impressively atop a mountain 400 metres above the Oaxaca Valley. This ancient Zapotec city, one of the most magnificent in the region, will be thoroughly explored with included entry and a guided tour. Afterwards, we'll return to Oaxaca city, where you're free to venture out and take in the vibrant atmosphere at your own pace, exploring its colourful streets, delectable cuisine, and captivating history.
Day 10 - Oaxaca - San Pablo Villa de Mitla - Tuxtla Gutirrez
We embark early today, making our first stop at San Pablo Villa de Mitla, a delightful Pueblo Mgico. Here, youll have the chance to wander around the area near the 16th-century Church of San Pablo and enjoy the charm of its rustic streets. Our journey continues through the scenic mountains of Oaxaca towards the Isthmus. Along the way, well break for an included lunch to refresh and take in the surroundings. By late afternoon, we will reach Tuxtla Gutirrez, the lively capital of Chiapas.
Day 11 - Tuxtla Gutirrez - Sumidero Canyon - Chiapa de Corzo - Zinacantn - San Juan Chamula - San Cristobal de las Casas
On day 11, we embark on a journey to the breathtaking Sumidero Canyon, where we'll take a boat trip through this awe-inspiring gorge, nearly a kilometre deep and 14 kilometres long. Following our exploration of the canyon, we visit Chiapa de Corzo, a colonial town rich in culture and tradition. Our adventure continues as we delve into the heart of Mayan heritage by exploring enchanting villages inhabited by Tzotzil Indians. In Zinacantn, you'll admire the beautifully woven garments of the women and have the opportunity to visit local shops and weaving workshops. In San Juan Chamula, prepare to be captivated by the church, where Christianity and pre-Columbian traditions intertwine in unique rites. Our journey then takes us to San Cristbal de las Casas, a charming colonial city founded in 1528, where you'll have a free afternoon to explore at your leisure.
Day 12 - San Cristobal de las Casas - Agua Azul - Misol-H - Palenque
As we journey through the breathtaking mountain landscapes of Chiapas today, we'll explore areas inhabited by communities that have preserved their Mayan language and traditions. Our first stop is in Ocosingo, the regional capital, where you can soak in the local atmosphere. Afterward, we continue to Agua Azul, where admission to the National Park is included. Here, you'll have time to marvel at and perhaps even take a refreshing dip in the over 50 waterfalls, varying from three to 30 metres in height. We then proceed to Misol-H, with its stunning waterfall you can walk behind for an up-close experience. Our day concludes with a journey to Palenque, where dinner and accommodation are provided. Please note that occasionally, due to local social issues in Ocosingo, roadblocks may be encountered. If this occurs, we'll take an alternative route, visiting Villahermosa City and the Yumka ecological reserve instead.
Day 13 - Palenque - Campeche
We begin our day with a visit to the awe-inspiring archaeological site of Palenque, an ancient Mayan city nestled within the jungle. Here, we explore its remarkable temples, pyramids, and the famous ball court. Admission and a guided tour with a local expert are included. After our exploration, we make our way to the Gulf of Mexico, travelling through the lush scenery of the Tabasco region. Our journey concludes in Campeche, a picturesque Mexican port city renowned for its colonial architecture and impressive 17th-century fortifications built to ward off pirate attacks. Here, a delightful dinner is included as we soak up the rich history and charm of this coastal gem.
Day 14 - Campeche - Merida
We depart from Campeche this morning, heading towards the state of Yucatn. Our journey will take just over two hours as we arrive in Mrida, the vibrant capital renowned for its rich blend of colonial and Mayan heritage. We have arranged a guided tour for you to explore Mrida's highlights, including the imposing Cathedral of Mrida, the striking limestone facade of the Church of the Third Order, and the historic House of Montejo, a beautiful example of Plateresque architecture from the 16th century.The afternoon will be yours to enjoy at your leisure. We recommend a visit to the Museum of the Maya World, which offers fascinating insights into the region's history and culture. As the evening approaches, we'll provide a transfer to the lively Zcalo, where you can savour dinner and immerse yourself in the local atmosphere, rounding off a day filled with exploration and discovery.
Day 15 - Merida - Izamal - Chichen Itza - Rio Lagartos
Today promises a remarkable journey through the captivating Yucatn state. Our day begins in Izamal, one of Mexico's most enchanting cities, recognised as a "Magic Town" for its picturesque charm. We then proceed to Chichen Itza, where admission is included to explore this iconic World Heritage Site. Here, you'll marvel at the famous Kukulcn Pyramid and the Warriors Temple, significant remnants of the Mayan civilisation. After immersing ourselves in the history and architecture, we savour a delicious Mayan cuisine lunch. Continuing our adventure, we arrive at Rio Lagartos, a quaint fishing village nestled within a Biosphere Reserve.
Day 16 - Rio Lagartos - Cenote Choj Ha - Cancun
We begin our day with an enthralling boat tour, lasting over two hours, as we delve into the biosphere reserve of Ro Lagartos. Here, you can marvel at the rich biodiversity, spotting crocodiles lurking amidst the mangroves and a plethora of bird species, including pelicans and the stunning pink flamingos. Embrace the unique "mud experience," where you can apply mud packed with sulphur, minerals, and salts that serve as excellent exfoliants, leaving your skin feeling incredibly smooth. Following this invigorating experience, we journey to Valladolid, the third-largest city in the Yucatan Peninsula. Its delightful historic centre offers a splendid backdrop for lunch, and we suggest dining at one of the charming restaurants in the main square. In the afternoon, we head to Cenote Choj Ha, managed by the local Maya community. We walk through a brief jungle path to explore a dry cave before arriving at a stunning wet cave, where you can swim in the beautiful lake inside. Our adventure concludes as we proceed to Cancun, arriving late in the afternoon.
Day 17 - Cancun
