Day 1 - Mexico City
Welcome to Mexico City! Once you've arrived, you'll be transferred to your hotel. Enjoy some free time to relax and unwind after your journey. Later in the afternoon, our guide will reach out to introduce themselves and offer any assistance you might need for the days ahead. Whether you choose to explore the vibrant city or simply settle in, your adventure is just beginning. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Mexico City
After enjoying breakfast, we set off to fully explore the vibrant heart of Mexico City and its surroundings. Our day begins at the Plaza of the Three Cultures, where modern and ancient cultures blend remarkably. From there, we venture just 40 km from the city to the iconic archaeological site of Teotihuacan, where entry is covered. Here, you will find the awe-inspiring Pyramids of the Sun and Moon, the Temple of Quetzalpapalotl, the Citadel, and the Avenue of the Dead. Continuing our cultural dive, we visit a local artisan centre, offering a glimpse into traditional craftsmanship. On our return to the capital, we stop at the revered Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, honoured as the patroness of Latin America. Once back at the hotel, the remainder of the day is yours to relax or explore at your leisure.
Day 3 - Mexico City - Tepoztlan - Cuernavaca - Taxco
Today, after breakfast, we depart from Mexico City, making our way to Tepoztln in the state of Morelos. Tepoztln is a delightful Pueblo Mgico, famed for its spiritual and wellness allure, nestled against a dramatic green hillside topped with a small pyramid. You'll have some free time to wander the charming streets or peruse the local artisan market. We then proceed to Cuernavaca, the capital of Morelos, aptly named "The City of Eternal Spring." This city was once a haven for Aztec nobility and, later, the Spanish colonial elite. Key highlights here include the Palace of Hernn Corts, the historic cathedral, and the city's lush gardens and parks. There's free time available for lunch before we continue our journey to Taxco in the state of Guerrero. Taxco is distinguished as one of Mexico's most picturesque Pueblos Mgicos, set among the mountains. Known for its colonial charm, cobbled streets, whitewashed houses, and exceptional silver artistry, Taxco offers a memorable experience. Youll have time to explore this enchanting city before we conclude our day.
Day 4 - Taxco - Chilpancingo - Acapulco
Following breakfast, we will journey through the mountains towards Chilpancingo de los Bravo, the capital of Guerrero. This bustling city captures the essence of Mexican urban life and holds a notable place in the country's struggle for independence. Our guide will lead you through the regional museum, where you'll find expansive murals illustrating Mexico's vibrant history. We then continue to Acapulco, renowned for its stunning beaches and awe-inspiring scenery. Upon arrival, you have the chance to unwind on one of the city's celebrated beaches, which are lined with a variety of restaurants ideal for lunch. Later in the day, we will visit La Fortaleza, a formidable 17th-century fort built to protect the city from pirate invasions, with entrance included. Afterwards, we will take you to your hotel where you can enjoy some free time to relax.
Day 5 - Acapulco - Zihuatanejo
After breakfast, well set off along the stunning Pacific Coast, travelling 230 km to the delightful town of Zihuatanejo. Known for its untouched beaches, laid-back atmosphere, and quaint cobblestone streets, Zihuatanejo has retained the charm of a traditional fishing village. A short ten-minute boat ride will take you to Playa Las Gatas, a secluded beach accessible only by sea. Here, youll have the chance to relax, swim, and enjoy lunch at one of the inviting seaside restaurants. After returning by boat, you can unwind in your accommodation and enjoy some free time to explore at your leisure. Please note: accommodation in Zihuatanejo may be scarce during peak season, and in such cases, we may continue our journey in the late afternoon to the nearby city of Lzaro Crdenas.
Day 6 - Zihuatanejo - Janitzio - Patzcuaro
As we venture onwards, the landscape gradually changes from arid deserts to the lush, verdant mountains of Michoacn. Our first destination is Lake Ptzcuaro, where well set sail on a boat for a 30-minute trip to the island of Janitzio. This picturesque island is home to the Purpecha community, who have preserved their traditional way of life, including the distinctive butterfly-net fishing method. You'll have time to enjoy lunch at one of the inviting local eateries, wander through the islands charming streets, and, should you choose, climb to the commanding statue of Jos Mara Morelos for stunning views. Well then make our way back to Ptzcuaro. Known for its beautiful colonial architecture and deep pre-Hispanic roots, this town captivates visitors with its artisan markets and delightful atmosphere.
Day 7 - Patzcuaro - Morelia - Cuitzeo del porvenir - Guadalajara
We will set off for Morelia, the capital city of Michoacn, celebrated for its stunning pink stone architecture and rich history. This UNESCO World Heritage Site boasts significant landmarks including the majestic Cathedral, the lively Plaza de Armas, and its historic university, established in 1540. You will have ample free time to explore this fascinating city and perhaps enjoy lunch at one of its charming eateries. Our travels then take us to Cuitzeo del Porvenir, a quaint town situated beside Mexico's second-largest lake. You can visit the Ex-Convent of Santa Mara Magdalena, a superb example of 16th-century Plateresque style architecture, and wander the towns cobblestone streets, lined with historic buildings. We will conclude our day in the evening upon reaching Guadalajara, the lively capital of Jalisco, known as the birthplace of both Mariachi music and Tequila.
Day 8 - Guadalajara
In the morning, we explore Guadalajara, a vibrant modern city with a rich colonial history. Our tour includes the impressive historic centre, the striking cathedral, and the bustling Tapata Square. We'll also visit the Cabaas Hospice, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which offers insight into the city's cultural heritage. After our morning in Guadalajara, we head to the nearby town of Tequila. Here, we visit the Mundo Cuervo distillery to learn about the production process of the world-famous Mexican spirit, complete with a tasting session. After our tour, you'll have free time to wander through the charming streets of Tequila and enjoy lunch at one of the local eateries. As the afternoon unfolds, we return to Guadalajara, where you can relax or further explore the city at your leisure.
Day 9 - Guadalajara - Chihuahua
Enjoy some leisure time in Guadalajara before your scheduled transfer to the airport. Upon your arrival at the airport in Chihuahua, a representative will greet you and escort you to your hotel. Immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of Chihuahua, the state capitalhome to nearly a million residents and founded in 1709 by Antonio Deza y Ulloa. The city is steeped in history, playing a pivotal role in the Mexican Revolution, and is associated with iconic figures such as Pancho Villa. Take advantage of your free time to explore the rich cultural heritage and lively spirit of this remarkable city.
Day 10 - Chihuahua
On the tenth day, our guide will meet you in the hotel lobby to take you on a tour of vibrant Chihuahua. You will explore the Pancho Villa Museum, which offers insights into the life of the famous revolutionary leader. The day's itinerary also includes a visit to the stunning Cathedral and the remarkable Quinta Gameros Museum, known for its impressive architecture and art collections. We'll also take you to the Government Palace, a beautiful example of neoclassical architecture, and guide you through the city's historic residential neighbourhoods, each showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Chihuahua.
Day 11 - Chihuahua - Creel
After indulging in breakfast, we will embark on a scenic journey through the stunning mountain and forest landscapes, making our way towards Creel. The route spans 260 kilometres and traverses areas where Mennonite communities have made their homes. Upon reaching Creel, a lively Pueblo Mgico known as the entrance to the Copper Canyon, we will begin a memorable tour. Our exploration will take us to the serene Lake Arareko, the historic San Ignacio Mission, and the Tarahumara caves, which are still inhabited by local families. We'll also visit the Valley of Mushrooms and Frogs, famous for its distinctive rock formations that will intrigue and inspire you.
Day 12 - Creel - Divisadero
Today, we journey 130 kilometres through awe-inspiring landscapes, taking in the natural beauty that surrounds us. Our itinerary includes a visit to Piedra Volada Falls and the Adventure Park, where you can cross the suspension bridge and enjoy breathtaking scenic viewpoints. At the Adventure Park, youll have the opportunity to partake in thrilling activities such as a cable car ride, zipline, zip rider, or rent an ATV or bicycle. For those who prefer a slower pace, guided hikes led by the Tarahumara people offer a cultural experience. These activities are optional, with tickets available at the park entrance. Lunch is on us, and after dining, well embark on a guided walk to soak in different vistas of the canyon and explore a traditional Tarahumara cave. Our day concludes as we proceed to our hotel, where dinner will be provided.
Day 13 - Divisadero - Chepe express - El fuerte
Today, we embark on the Chepe Express for an unforgettable journey through the Copper Canyon, renowned as one of the most breathtaking rail journeys globally. As we make our way deep into the mountains, the train navigates the challenging terrain, crossing steep cliffs, 86 impressive tunnels, and 37 stunning bridges over gushing rivers. This route offers unparalleled vistas, including views from the highest bridge and through the longest tunnel, the "El Descanso".Upon reaching El Fuerte station, you'll be met by our representative who will transfer you to your hotel. In the afternoon, you are free to explore the scenic colonial historic centre or take a leisurely stroll along the picturesque banks of the Fuerte River at your own pace.
Day 14 - El fuerte - Los mochis
Your morning is free for independent pursuits in El Fuerte. We recommend considering a raft ride along the Fuerte River, which offers a delightful way to explore the area, or you might visit the ancient petroglyphs, which are nearly 2,500 years old. Alternatively, immerse yourself in the local culture with a tour of an indigenous Mayo-Yoreme village. Here, you can delve into local customs by visiting a family home, experiencing the renowned Deer Dance, and making handmade tortillas with your hostess, giving you a taste of traditional regional cuisine. Please note that these tours are not included in your itinerary. At 2:00 p.m., we will transfer you from El Fuerte to Los Mochis, a journey of approximately one hour. Upon arrival, you have the afternoon to yourself. We suggest a visit to Topolobampo Bay and the Maviri Island Gastronomic Centre, where you can enjoy the sun, beaches, and fresh seafood at your leisure, though these are also not included in the itinerary.
Day 15 - Los mochis
Your journey concludes today in Los Mochis. We will organise a transfer to Los Mochis airport at the most suitable time for your departure, ensuring a smooth end to your adventure. Safe travels and we hope you carry wonderful memories of your experiences with us.
