Day 1 - Mexico City
Upon arrival in Mexico City, you'll be whisked away to your hotel, marking the beginning of your exciting journey in this vibrant metropolis. The rest of the day is yours to unwind and soak in the atmosphere, and at some point in the late afternoon, our guide will reach out to you with further details and assistance. Enjoy your first day exploring or simply relaxing at your leisure. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Mexico City
On the second day of your journey, we delve into the captivating aspects of Mexico City and its surroundings. Following breakfast, we set out for the Plaza of the Three Cultures, a space where the country's rich history converges with its vibrant modern life. Our journey continues to Teotihuacan, a remarkable archaeological site situated just 40 kilometres from the capital. Here, we explore the awe-inspiring Pyramids of the Sun and Moon, the Temple of Quetzalpapalotl, the Citadel, and the famed Avenue of the Dead. A visit to a local artisan centre offers us a glimpse into traditional craftsmanship.As we return to Mexico City, we visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, an important religious site and a significant cultural landmark in Latin America. Upon returning to the hotel, you'll have the remainder of the day to explore the city at your own pace, perhaps venturing to nearby attractions or simply relaxing and reflecting on the day's experiences.
Day 3 - Mexico City - Tepoztlan - Cuernavaca - Taxco
After breakfast, we will leave Mexico City and travel to the state of Morelos, reaching Tepoztln, a captivating "Pueblo Mgico" renowned as a spiritual and wellness haven. Nestled against a striking green hillside, this charming town is home to a small pyramid at the summit. You will have the opportunity to amble through its lively streets or peruse the artisan market at your leisure. Our journey then continues to Cuernavaca, the capital of Morelos, celebrated as "The City of Eternal Spring." With its origins in pre-Hispanic times, Cuernavaca served as a retreat for Aztec nobility and the colonial Spanish elite. Must-see attractions include the Palace of Hernn Corts, the cathedral, and the city's picturesque gardens and parks. You'll have free time to enjoy lunch here. Our final destination for the day is Taxco in the state of Guerrero, one of Mexico's most scenic Pueblos Mgicos nestled amidst mountains. Taxco's colonial charm is evident in its cobblestone streets, whitewashed houses, and esteemed silver craftsmanship. You will have time to explore this unique city before we settle in for the night.
Day 4 - Taxco - Chilpancingo - Acapulco
Following breakfast, we travel through the scenic mountains to Chilpancingo de los Bravo, the capital of Guerrero. This lively city captures the essence of Mexican urban life, playing a pivotal role in the nation's independence history. Our guide will accompany you to the regional museum, where you can admire its vast murals depicting the rich tapestry of Mexicos past. From here, we continue to the coastal city of Acapulco, renowned for its stunning beaches and dramatic landscapes. On arrival, youll have the opportunity to unwind on the popular sandy shores and enjoy lunch at one of the beachfront restaurants. In the afternoon, we'll visit La Fortaleza, a 17th-century fort built to shield the city from pirate invasions, with admission included. Well then provide a transfer to the hotel, where youll have free time to relax and explore at your leisure.
Day 5 - Acapulco - Zihuatanejo
Following breakfast, we proceed along the picturesque Pacific Coast for a 230 km journey to Zihuatanejo. This delightful destination, once a serene fishing village, is renowned for its unspoilt beaches, inviting cobblestone streets, and a laid-back atmosphere that still retains its authentic charm. Included in our trip is a short boat ridelasting around 10 minutesto Playa Las Gatas, a secluded beach accessible only by sea. Here, you can take the opportunity to swim in the crystal-clear waters, unwind on the sandy shores, and enjoy lunch at one of the many beachfront restaurants. After returning by boat, you'll settle into your accommodation and have the rest of the day at your leisure. Please note that during peak seasons, accommodation in Zihuatanejo may be limited, which could necessitate an afternoon departure to spend the night in the nearby city of Lzaro Crdenas.
Day 6 - Zihuatanejo - Janitzio - Patzcuaro
As we move away from the arid landscapes, we are greeted by the verdant mountains of Michoacn. Our first destination today is Lake Ptzcuaro, where we will embark on a 30-minute boat journey to the island of Janitzio. This island is home to the Purpecha community, who are famous for maintaining their traditions, including the distinctive butterfly-net fishing. Here, you can savour lunch at one of the local restaurants, wander through the island's traditional streets, or perhaps take the opportunity to ascend to the towering statue of Jos Mara Morelos.Afterwards, we return by boat to Ptzcuaro, considered one of Mexico's most beautiful colonial towns. With its blend of pre-Hispanic influences, colonial architecture, and vibrant artisan markets, Ptzcuaros charming atmosphere is sure to leave a lasting impression.
Day 7 - Patzcuaro - Morelia - Cuitzeo del porvenir - Guadalajara
Our journey today takes us to Morelia, the capital of Michoacn, renowned for its splendid pink stone architecture. Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Morelia offers a rich historic centre with highlights including its impressive Cathedral, the bustling Plaza de Armas, and a university that dates back to 1540. You will have some leisure time to wander the city and enjoy lunch at your own pace. Later, we will journey to Cuitzeo del Porvenir, situated beside Mexicos second-largest lake. Here, you have the opportunity to visit the Ex-Convent of Santa Mara Magdalena, a masterful Plateresque-style structure from the 16th century. As you stroll through the town's cobbled streets, youll find them lined with historic buildings, adding to its charm.Our day concludes as we head towards Guadalajara, the capital of Jalisco, celebrated as the birthplace of both Mariachi music and Tequila. We expect to arrive in this vibrant city in the evening.
Day 8 - Guadalajara
Today, we'll delve into the vibrant city of Guadalajara, a fusion of modernity and rich colonial heritage. Our morning begins with a guided exploration of the city's colonial historic centre, where we visit the iconic cathedral, bustling market, and Tapata Square. A highlight will be our entry into the Cabaas Hospice a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its remarkable murals. Later, we journey to the town of Tequila, synonymous with the world-famous drink it produces. Here, we include a tour of the MUNDO CUERVO distillery, where you can witness the traditional process behind crafting this iconic Mexican beverage. After your tour, enjoy a leisurely stroll and lunch in the charming streets of Tequila. In the afternoon, we'll return to Guadalajara to end our day.
Day 9 - Guadalajara - Guanajuato
Today, we embark on a journey to the state of Guanajuato, arriving around midday. In the afternoon, we'll explore this enchanting university city, which boasts a World Heritage designation. Known for its steep slopes and narrow streets, Guanajuato is filled with stunning churches and architectural wonders. Our visit includes a delightful cable car ride, taking you to "El Ppila" to enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the city.
Day 10 - Guanajuato - Dolores Hidalgo - San Miguel de Allende - Queretaro
On Day 10, we journey through the picturesque mountains to Dolores Hidalgo, celebrated as the cradle of Mexican independence. Here, you can immerse yourself in the rich history and significance of the town. Our next stop is the Sanctuary of Atotonilco, revered as the "Sanctuary of God and Country," and recognised as a World Heritage Site; however, occasionally the interior may not be accessible due to retreats. We then continue to the charming city of San Miguel de Allende. Known for its exquisite colonial architecture and quaint cobblestone streets, this World Heritage city invites you to leisurely explore its captivating beauty. Our day concludes with an arrival in Queretaro, celebrated for its splendid colonial centre, vibrant Plaza de Armas, and inviting restaurants and pedestrian areas, where you can soak in the lively atmosphere.
Day 11 - Queretaro - Tula - Puebla
On day eleven, we set off for Tula, the historic capital of the Toltecs, where you'll experience the grandeur of its archaeological site entry is covered. The towering four-metre-tall Atlantean warrior statues stand as a testament to the advanced artistry of this ancient civilisation. As you explore, you'll encounter pyramids, palaces, and intricately carved columns, all offering a glimpse into the sophisticated world of the Toltecs. Later, we'll make our way to Puebla, a city renowned for its rich culinary heritage, splendid colonial architecture, and distinctive ceramics. You'll have the opportunity to admire the city's striking Renaissance cathedral and vibrant main square. We'll spend the night in this bustling and culturally-rich locale.
Day 12 - Puebla - Oaxaca
As we journey towards the state of Oaxaca, you'll be treated to captivating mountainous landscapes. Reaching Oaxaca by late morning, we'll delve into this UNESCO World Heritage city, originally established by the Aztecs and celebrated for its remarkable historical legacy. Next, we ascend to Monte Albn, perched 400 metres above the Oaxaca Valley. As the most splendid of the Zapotec urban centres, this ancient site offers an insightful guided tour with tickets provided. After exploring the historical marvels of Monte Albn, we'll return to Oaxaca. The afternoon is yours to discover more of the city's charm at your leisure.
Day 13 - Oaxaca - Mexico City
Well arrange your transfer from Oaxaca to the airport for your flight to Mexico City, which is included in your travel package.
