Day 1 - Chihuahua
Upon your arrival at Chihuahua Airport, you'll be greeted by our representative, who will organise your transfer to the hotel. Once you've checked in, meet our guide in the hotel lobby for an engaging city tour. We will explore some of Chihuahua's significant landmarks, beginning with the Pancho Villa Museum, which sheds light on the life of Mexico's revolutionary hero. We'll visit the majestic Cathedral and delve into the artistic heritage at the Quinta Gameros Museum. The tour will also unveil the historical charms of the Government Palace and the city's picturesque residential neighbourhoods. This introduction offers a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Chihuahua's history and culture, setting the stage for an exciting journey ahead. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Chihuahua - Creel
After breakfast, we set off from Chihuahua, traversing the stunning landscapes of mountains and forests, dotted with towns where Mennonite communities reside. Covering a distance of 260 km, we arrive in Creel, a lively Pueblo Mgico that serves as the threshold to the Copper Canyon. Our excursion in Creel includes a visit to Lake Arareko, the historic San Ignacio Mission, and the Tarahumara caves, still home to local families. We'll also explore the intriguing rock formations of the Valley of Mushrooms and Frogs.
Day 3 - Creel - Divisadero
Today, we embark on a scenic 130 km road trip through stunning landscapes. Our journey takes us to several unique sites, beginning with the breathtaking Piedra Volada Falls. We then explore the Adventure Park, featuring thrilling attractions such as a suspension bridge and panoramic viewpoints. For those seeking adventure, the park offers optional activities including a cable car, zipline, zip rider, and rentals for ATVs and bicycles. Guided hikes led by Tarahumara guides are also available, with tickets available at the park's entrance.After an included lunch, we will take a guided walk to appreciate different vistas of the canyon and visit a traditional Tarahumara cave, gaining insight into the local way of life. We will conclude the day by heading to our hotel, where an enjoyable dinner awaits.
Day 4 - Divisadero - Chepe express - Los mochis
Today, we embark on a memorable journey aboard the Chepe Express, a renowned tourist train that winds its way through the magnificent Copper Canyon. This experience offers breathtaking views as the train navigates through dramatic mountain landscapes, rugged terrain, and steep cliffs, crossing a remarkable 86 tunnels and 37 bridges over powerful rivers. Highlights of the journey include the highest bridge on the route and the lengthy "El Descanso" Tunnel. Upon our arrival in Los Mochis, a transfer will be ready to take you to your hotel, where you'll have some free time to explore the city. Founded in 1893 by the American engineer Albert K. Owen, Los Mochis was part of his ambitious utopian socialist project, "The Topolobampo Colony." The city has played a significant role in the region's agricultural development, particularly in sugarcane production, contributing to its economic growth. Enjoy the evening at your leisure, discovering the distinctive charm and history of this vibrant city.
Day 5 - Los mochis - Guadalajara
You have some free time in Los Mochis before we arrange your transfer to the airport for a flight to Guadalajara. Once we arrive, youll be taken to your hotel, ready to begin exploring at your leisure. As the capital of Jalisco, Guadalajara is steeped in history and culture as the birthplace of both mariachi music and tequila. It offers a vibrant introduction to the colonial charm and cultural richness that defines this region of Mexico.
Day 6 - Guadalajara
Our day begins with an exploration of Guadalajara, a vibrant blend of modernity and colonial history. We'll delve into the heart of the city, visiting the historic centre, the impressive cathedral, and bustling market. Tapata Square presents an ideal spot for soaking up the local atmosphere. A highlight of our morning is the visit to the Cabaas Hospice, a UNESCO World Heritage site, showcasing an array of striking murals and stunning architecture. Later, our journey takes us to the town of Tequila, nestled amidst rolling fields of blue agave. Well stroll through the picturesque streets and enjoy lunch in this charming locale. Our visit includes the renowned Mundo Cuervo distillery, where well discover how this iconic Mexican spirit is crafted, complete with a tasting session. After experiencing the rich heritage and flavours of Tequila, we will make our way back to Guadalajara.
Day 7 - Guadalajara - Guanajuato
Today, we journey to the state of Guanajuato, arriving around midday. In the afternoon, we include a guided tour of this enchanting university city, recognised as a World Heritage Site. As we explore, you'll find yourself captivated by its steep inclines and narrow streets, alongside its impressive churches. We also include a cable car ride, providing a splendid view from El Ppila, a local vantage point offering panoramic glimpses of the city.
Day 8 - Guanajuato - Dolores Hidalgo - San Miguel de Allende - Queretaro
We embark on a journey through the majestic mountains to Dolores Hidalgo, famously known as the birthplace of Mexican independence. Our adventure continues with a visit to the Sanctuary of Atotonilco, celebrated as the "Sanctuary of God and Country" and listed as a World Heritage Site. Please note that access to the sanctuary's interior might be restricted during certain retreats. We then proceed to explore San Miguel de Allende, a breathtaking city also recognised as a World Heritage Site, characterised by its exquisite colonial architecture and enchanting cobblestone streets. There will be ample time here for a leisurely wander. Our day concludes in Queretaro, famed for its magnificent colonial heart, bustling Plaza de Armas, and vibrant pedestrian streets lined with lively restaurants.
Day 9 - Queretaro
In the morning, youll have free time to delve deeper into the historic charm of Quertaro. Founded in 1531, this city is a treasure trove of cultural and architectural heritage. As you wander through the UNESCO-listed historic centre, youll be captivated by its magnificent plazas, baroque churches, colonial buildings, and vibrant squares with cobbled streets. Dont miss the opportunity to visit the impressive 18th-century aqueduct, as well as the local gardens and markets that offer a genuine taste of the areas traditions.In the afternoon, well treat you to a unique theatrical journey at the Hacienda Atongo, located just 40 kilometres from Quertaro. This historic 17th-century estate sets the stage for an engaging guided tour, featuring characters from its storied past brought to life by talented local actors. As we explore the main buildings, vineyard, and lush grounds of the hacienda, youll be immersed in the rich tapestry of its history. To round off this memorable experience, well sample a refreshing drink crafted from the wine produced on the estate, before heading back to Quertaro.
Day 10 - Queretaro
Today, we venture to the Pueblo Mgico of San Sebastin de Bernal, set against the impressive backdrop of the worlds third-largest monolith. This charming town is renowned for its tranquil environment and skilled textile craftsmanship. Our journey continues to Tequisquiapan, a picturesque town celebrated for its mineral water spas and colonial-style architecture lining its cobblestone streets. Here, you'll have the opportunity to browse through an artisan market known for exquisite woven baskets and other handmade goods. Our exploration includes a guided tour delving into the town's rich history.Well also indulge in a delightful culinary experience at the San Patricio Winery and Bocanegra Cheese Cellar. You'll gain insights into the intricacies of cheese production and the unique challenges and rewards of high-altitude winemaking, all while sampling a selection of regional wines. This day promises to be a blend of cultural enrichment and culinary delight.
Day 11 - Queretaro - Mexico City
Today, we'll make our way to Mexico City, embarking on a scenic journey by regular line bus which will take approximately three hours. Upon your arrival, a friendly assistant will be there to greet you and ensure your transfer to the hotel is smooth and hassle-free. Enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of Mexico's capital as you settle in and get ready to explore all the cultural and historical attractions the city has to offer. Have a restful evening as you prepare for the adventures tomorrow brings.
Day 12 - Mexico City
On day twelve, we will delve into the vibrant legacy of MEXICO CITY and the awe-inspiring site of TEOTIHUACAN, situated merely 40 km from the capital. Following breakfast, our exploration begins at the Plaza of the Three Cultures, a poignant symbol of Mexicos rich tapestry of history. We will then proceed to the famed archaeological site of Teotihuacan. Here, you will witness the grandeur of the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon, uncover the mysteries of the Temple of Quetzalpapalotl, and stroll along the Avenue of the Dead. A visit to the Citadel and a stop at a local artisan centre are also included in our itinerary. On our return to the city, we will visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, revered as the patroness of Latin America, offering insight into its cultural and spiritual significance. Upon returning to the hotel, you will have free time to unwind or further explore the citys wonders at your own pace.
Day 13 - Mexico City
Enjoy breakfast in Mexico City as you prepare for the conclusion of your trip. Please note that the transfer from the hotel to the airport is not included in our services, so you will need to make your own arrangements for this. This day marks the end of your unforgettable journey through Mexico, filled with vibrant culture, stunning landscapes, and remarkable historical sites.
