Day 1 - Sliema
On arrival at Malta International Airport, collect your hire car and make your way to your hotel in Sliema. After checking in, the remainder of the day is yours to spend as you wish. Relax at the hotel, explore the local area, or simply unwind after your journey. Overnight in Sliema.
Day 2 - Sliema - Valletta - Sliema
Today we recommend exploring Valletta on foot, giving you the chance to experience the citys rich culture and unique character. You may wish to begin your day with a 30-minute harbour cruise by gondola, offering a different perspective of the citys impressive waterfront. Afterwards, visit the Upper Barrakka Gardens, accessible by lift, where you can enjoy panoramic views over the Grand Harbour and across to the historic Three Cities of Senglea, Vittoriosa and Cospicua. At midday, witness the traditional Gun Salute at the gardens.From here, a guided walk of approximately 90 minutes can take you past notable landmarks such as Castille Palace and the Parliament Building, before reaching St Johns Co-Cathedral. This renowned site is celebrated for its ornate stonework, painted vaulted ceiling, and houses Caravaggios masterpiece, The Beheading of St John the Baptist.A short 15-minute walk will bring you to the Malta Experience, an audio-visual show that presents the islands 7,000-year history. The show provides insight into Maltas eventful past, including the story of the Knights of St John and their origins in caring for the sick. You can also tour La Sacra Infermeria, the historic hospital established by the Knights. Return to Sliema for your overnight stay.
Day 3 - Sliema - Mosta - Sliema
Today we suggest you visit Mosta, a central town renowned for its impressive Basilica. The churchs dome is the third largest unsupported dome in Europe, constructed in the 18th century. It became particularly well known in 1942 during the Second World War, when a bomb pierced the dome but failed to explode, sparing the lives of around 300 people inside. Your next stop can be Ta Qali, also known as the crafts village. Here, we recommend visiting the Mdina Glass Factory to watch local artisans create intricate glass pieces an ideal opportunity to find unique souvenirs. Continue to the old capital, Mdina, where you can explore Baroque buildings, the cathedral, and the imposing bastion walls that overlook the surrounding countryside. While in Mdina, you may wish to visit St Pauls Cathedral, a 17th-century masterpiece designed by Lorenzo Gaf. Overnight in Sliema.
Day 4 - Sliema - Vittoriosa - Marsaxlokk Village - Sliema
Today you may wish to begin with a drive to the south of Malta to explore one of the renowned Three Cities. Stop in Vittoriosa, also known as Birgu, which is among the oldest settlements on the islands. After a short stroll along the waterfront promenade, you can wander through the historic streets towards the main square and the Church of St Lawrence. From the square, you have the option to visit the Inquisitors Palace, a significant building from the era of the Knights of St John, once used as a place of detention. Afterwards, continue south to the fishing village of Marsaxlokk, famous for its colourful traditional boats known as dhajsa moored in the harbour. On Sundays, the village is especially lively with a bustling market along the seafront, where you can spend some free time browsing the local stalls or simply soaking up the atmosphere. Overnight in Sliema.
Day 5 - Sliema
Today we drive to Wied i?-?urrieq, a small locality known for its striking sea caves, including the renowned Blue Grotto. We pause for photographs from the high plateau, taking in panoramic views of the coastline. If sea conditions allow, you may choose to take an optional boat trip into the Blue Grotto and its surrounding caves for a closer look at these natural formations. Our journey continues to the UNESCO World Heritage site of ?a?ar Qim Temples, an impressive example of prehistoric architecture set on a hilltop overlooking the sea and the islet of Filfla. We end the day with a visit to Dingli Cliffs, the highest point on the Maltese Islands, rising over 250 metres above sea level and offering sweeping views of the Mediterranean. Overnight in Sliema.
Day 6 - Sliema
Today offers the chance to explore Gozo, Maltas sister island. After making your own way to the ferry terminal and crossing to Gozo please note the ferry ticket is not included we begin with a visit to the ?gantija Temples, recognised as the worlds oldest free-standing temples. We continue to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Ta Pinu, Gozos most visited spiritual site, known for its peaceful atmosphere and a section dedicated to the Madonna, reflecting the many miraculous cures attributed to this church. You can then visit the charming bay town of Xlendi before heading to Victoria, the islands capital, where you are free to browse the shops and explore the Cittadella, a historic fortified city offering panoramic views across Gozo. Later, you may wish to visit Dwejra Bay and discover the areas caves. At the end of the day, return to Malta by ferry. Overnight in Sliema.
Day 7 - Sliema
After your final breakfast at the hotel, we recommend allowing plenty of time to check out and drive to Malta International Airport. Return your hire car at the designated area before your departure. Safe travels.
