Itinerary
Day 1 - Mombasa - Voi
We start early with pick-up from your north or south coast beach hotel. We recommend arriving in Mombasa the day before so you are ready for departure. The safari leaves on schedule if you miss the departure it will continue without you, and any costs to meet the group later will be your responsibility locally. We drive north towards Nairobi, broadly following the late?19th?century railway line built by the British. The road passes the warehouses and workshops on Mombasas outskirts and climbs steadily until the vast plains of Tsavo appear, with the rolling Taita Hills on the horizon. We enter Tsavo East National Park at Buchuma Gate Tsavo is Kenyas largest national park, split into East and West by the highway. We arrive at Ashnil Aruba Lodge in time for lunch. You have time to relax before we head back into the park for an afternoon game drive, returning to the lodge at sunset. Rooms at Ashnil Aruba Lodge are designed for comfort, with en suite bathrooms and terraces overlooking the plains or Aruba Dam across the River Voi. The dam and nearby waterholes attract large mammals, especially herds of elephants often coloured red by the soil. We may also see zebras, giraffes, impala, gazelles, lesser kudu and Cape buffalo, with lions, cheetahs, the occasional leopard and many bird species also present. In the evening, we dine at the lodge. Overnight in Tsavo East.
Day 2 - Ol Tukai
After an early breakfast, we depart for Amboseli. We join the main highway and continue north, passing Hunters Lodge site of the Man eaters of Tsavo incident during the building of the KenyaUganda Railway, later depicted in the film The Ghost and the Darkness. At Emali we turn south towards Amboseli National Park and, if the weather is clear, we may glimpse Mount Kilimanjaro. We arrive at camp in time for lunch. You can unwind or take a swim before we head into the park for an afternoon game drive. Amboseli is renowned for its large elephant herds with Kilimanjaro as a dramatic backdrop, offering excellent opportunities to see these animals at close range. We return to camp at sunset. Sentrim Amboseli Camp offers a comfortable base with en suite tents, each with a private veranda, plus a pool, restaurant and bar. In the evening we enjoy dinner at the camp. Overnight in Amboseli.
Day 3 - Tsavo
After an early morning game drive and breakfast, we depart Amboseli for Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, arriving in time for lunch. In the afternoon we head out on a game drive in the sanctuary, returning to the lodge as the sun sets. After dinner we set off again for a night game drive a chance to look for nocturnal wildlife in its natural habitat. Overnight in Taita Hills.Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge sits in the heart of the private sanctuary, adjacent to Tsavo West National Park. Rooms are arranged in two storey blocks radiating from a central pod and linked by elevated walkways that overlook a salt lick and small waterhole, both floodlit after dark. Interiors are spacious and equipped with modern comforts. The restaurant, bar and main balconies face the waterhole and salt lick, which draw a steady stream of wildlife, and there is an underground bunker with ground level windows for remarkably close yet safe viewing.
