Day 1 - Amman
As you arrive at Amman airport, welcome to the vibrant country of Jordan! Once youve completed the necessary border procedures, well provide a transfer to your hotel, allowing you to settle in and enjoy some well-deserved relaxation. You'll have free time to explore Amman at your own pace, immersing yourself in the city's unique sights and sounds. Whether you choose to wander through bustling souks or enjoy a leisurely stroll, your adventure in Jordan is just beginning. Rest well, as tomorrow promises more exciting discoveries. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Amman - Jerash - Amman
Following breakfast, we set off towards the northern region of Jordan to explore Ajlun Fortress, an imposing 12th-century castle nestled in the mountains. This area has long been home to both Muslims and Orthodox Christians. We'll visit the ancient Church of Saint Sergius, a serene spot to reflect upon the past. A delectable lunch awaits us before we proceed to Jerash, where we will explore its fascinating Roman archaeological site, one of the finest in the world. After our immersive day, we head back to Amman where you'll have the opportunity to relax and settle into your accommodation for the evening.
Day 3 - Amman - Madaba - Amman
We set off to explore the Desert Castles today, architectural marvels constructed between the 7th and 8th centuries. Our journey first takes us to Qasr Kharana, distinguished by its formidable thick-walled structure. Next, we visit the UNESCO-listed Qusayr Amra, celebrated for its extraordinary frescoes. Following this, we continue to Madaba, where lunch will be provided. Here, we visit Madaba Archaeological Park, traversing an ancient Roman road, and the Church of St. George, home to the renowned 6th-century mosaic, the oldest map of the Holy Land. Our day concludes with a visit to Mount Nebo, the spot where Moses is said to have gazed upon the Promised Land. We then return to Amman, where you will have some free time upon arrival.
Day 4 - Amman - Bethany - Dead Sea
On day four, we depart for Bethany, situated on the tranquil banks of the River Jordan a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated as the location where John the Baptist baptised Jesus. Our journey then takes us to the Dead Sea Museum, known for its stunning Panorama Complex. Lunch is provided. Upon arrival at our hotel by the Dead Sea, you'll have the opportunity to experience a swim in the worlds saltiest sea, which also holds the title of the lowest altitude of any body of water on the planet. This evening, dinner and accommodation are included, allowing you to relax and savour the unique beauty and serenity of the Dead Sea.
Day 5 - Dead Sea - Shoubak - Petra
Following breakfast, we embark on a journey through the heart of Jordan, tracing the historic Kings Road, a route deeply intertwined with the stories of the ancient Moab Kingdom. Our ascent along this storied path will lead us to the imposing Karak Castle, perched atop a hill. This formidable example of 12th-century military architecture once stood as one of the most crucial fortresses between Jerusalem and Aqaba. We then arrive at Dana, a charming town of stone houses dramatically set on the edge of a vast cliff. After enjoying our lunch here, we continue our drive along the Kings Route to Shoubak, where we will have the opportunity to photograph the majestic Crusader Castle, albeit from the exterior. Our journey proceeds to Wadi Musa, the gateway to the iconic site of Petra.Upon our arrival, we will explore the Moses Spring, a location steeped in legend where Moses is said to have struck a rock with his staff to bring forth water. We will also visit the Petra Museum, which offers an excellent exhibition that sheds light on the history of the Nabateans and showcases captivating artefacts discovered in the region. Dinner and accommodation are included this evening. For those interested, an optional visit to an old Turkish bath or an enthralling light and sound show in Petra is available.
Day 6 - Petra - Wadi Rum
On our sixth day, we embark on a journey to uncover one of the most thrilling highlights of our adventure. We begin with a visit to the breathtaking archaeological site of Petra. This ancient city, established over 300 years before Christ, lies hidden within the rugged landscape and is approached through a narrow, winding canyon. Here, we marvel at the intricately carved temples and tombs that grace the rose-coloured cliffs.Following an included lunch, our travels lead us to the captivating desert of Wadi Rum. At the Visitor Centre, we board 4x4 vehicles and venture into this stunning expanse, renowned for its extraordinary landscapes. To fully immerse ourselves in the desert experience, we enjoy a 45-minute camel ride, offering a unique perspective of this beautiful setting.Our exploration continues with a visit to Khazali Canyon, where we discover ancient engravings that unveil the early roots of the Arabic language. Tonight, we embrace the spirit of the desert by staying in a camp, where dinner and accommodation are provided.
Day 7 - Wadi Rum - Aqaba - Eilat - Saint Catherine
Leaving Wadi Rum after breakfast, we head to Aqaba, Jordans vibrant second city, nestled on the shores of the Red Sea. Here, we take a leisurely walk through the centre before continuing to the Israeli border. Crossing over, we arrive in Eilat, a modern resort city celebrated for its wonderful beaches. Youll have time to unwind, enjoy lunch, and perhaps take a refreshing swim. Our journey continues to the Egyptian border, where we have the opportunity to photograph Pharaohs Island, with its formidable fortress of Saladin. We then proceed to Saint Catherine for our overnight stay, where dinner is provided.Please be aware of the fees at the border crossings: Jordan $15 exit fee, Israel $32 exit fee, Egypt $45 for an entry visa. Fees are approximate and subject to change by the respective authorities without prior notice. Note that drones and cameras with a zoom over 5.5 metres are prohibited, along with other professional equipment, and we cannot be responsible for items confiscated at borders.In exceptional circumstances or with a smaller group, we may take the AqabaTaba ferry directly from Jordan to Egypt. This crossing lasts just over two hours and does not include guide assistance during the ferry ride.
Day 8 - Saint Catherine - The Well of Moses - Cairo
Today, we begin our exploration at the base of Mount Sinai with a visit to the remarkable St. Catherine's Monastery. This revered site, enclosed by high stone walls, is where Moses is said to have witnessed the burning bush that was alight yet unconsumed. The monastery, a treasure trove of spiritual history, is esteemed by Jews, Christians, and Muslims and belongs to the Orthodox Church. It has achieved UNESCO World Heritage status.As we journey through the serene and striking vistas of the Sinai Desert, a stop for lunch is arranged. We then proceed to the biblical Well of Moses, a quaint oasis amidst arid surroundings. Our adventure continues as we pass through the tunnel beneath the Suez Canal, arriving in Cairo by late afternoon. Here, we'll settle in for the evening, ready for the discoveries tomorrow will bring.
Day 9 - Cairo
On our full day in Cairo, we begin by exploring the iconic Pyramids of Cheops, Kefren, and Micerinos, admiring their timeless grandeur from the outside. We also gaze upon the majestic Sphinx, impressive in its size and history, sculpted directly from rock. Our exploration continues at the Egyptian Museum, where you'll encounter ancient art and the legendary treasures of Tutankhamun's Tomb. After an included lunch, we head to the Citadel of Saladin with its stunning Alabaster Mosque, offering both architectural beauty and panoramic views. Our journey then leads us to the Coptic neighbourhood, where we visit the Hanging Church, unique for being constructed above a Roman fortress. This day offers an immersive experience into Egypt's rich history and culture, providing insights into its ancient civilization.
Day 10 - Cairo - Aswan
We begin our day with an early morning transfer to the airport for our flight to Aswan. Upon arrival, we head straight to the remarkable sites of Abu Simbel by road. A highlight of our visit is a serene boat trip on Lake Nasser, offering a stunning perspective of this extraordinary region. Lunch takes place in a traditional Nubian restaurant, enhancing our cultural experience.Next, we explore the awe-inspiring temples of Abu Simbel, majestically carved into the cliffs by Ramses II in the 12th century BC. These grand edifices, standing at a towering 20 metres high, are dedicated to the sun god Amun Ra. We will also visit the Temple of Nefertari, honouring the goddess Hathor.In the afternoon, we return to Aswan to enjoy an overnight stay in a superb hotel, providing a perfect end to a day filled with historical wonders.
Day 11 - Aswan
On day 11, we delve into the wonders of Aswan, beginning with a city tour that includes a visit to the Red Granite Quarry, home to the famous Unfinished Obelisk. Here, we'll observe the ancient Egyptians' ingenious techniques for extracting massive granite blocks. Next, we head to the stunning Temple of Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis, situated on a small island only accessible by boat. This is followed by a delightful felucca ride on the Nile, traditional wooden sailing boats that will take us to the vibrant Nubian Village. With its brightly painted houses and bustling commercial life, it promises a colourful experience. Lunch is included.In the afternoon, we continue our felucca journey to reach the Monastery of Saint Simeon. Originally a grand monastery during Roman times, it later served as a caravanserai. The excursion includes a short camel ride, enhancing our adventurous day. Although we pass by the modern Coptic church and the Aga Khan Mausoleum, these are not included in our visit. The evening offers free time at our excellent hotel, where you can enjoy the expansive swimming pool and other facilities, perfectly rounding off a day rich in history and culture.
Day 12 - Aswan - Kom Ombo - Edfu - Esna - Luxor
Following breakfast, we embark on a picturesque journey along the Nile Valley. The landscapes are captivating, with palm groves lining the riverbanks and bustling villages dotting the horizon. Our first stop is the Temple of Kom Ombo, majestically overlooking the Nile. This unique temple honours two deitiesSobek, the crocodile god, and Horus, the falcon godand its symmetrical design is divided between them. Wander through its corridors and admire the stunning reliefs and hieroglyphs illustrating daily life, mythology, and ancient medical practices. We also explore the fascinating Crocodile Museum, home to mummified crocodiles.We then proceed to Edfu, where we'll visit the splendid Temple of Edfu, dedicated to Horus, the sky god. This remarkably preserved temple, constructed over 2,300 years ago, stands as one of Egypt's most impressive sites. After enjoying an included lunch, our journey takes us to Esna, where we marvel at the grand temple. Unique in retaining its original roof, the temple offers a rare glimpse into the architectural grandeur and vibrant colours of ancient Egypt. Thanks to centuries buried under silt and mud from the Nile, the temple is well-preserved and was rediscovered in the 19th century. We'll also have the opportunity to view the restored caravanserai and observe the floodgates along the Nile from outside.Our day concludes as we continue our journey to Luxor, arriving in the late afternoon, where a comfortable stay at our hotel awaits.
Day 13 - Luxor
Our day in Luxor promises to be filled with awe as we explore one of the most remarkable ancient cities in the world. We start the day by boarding a private boat from our hotel to cross the tranquil Nile River, reaching the West Bank in the early morning light. Our first stop is the "Valley of the Artisans" at Deir el-Medina, a lesser-known site that housed the highly skilled builders and artisans who worked on the royal tombs of ancient Egypt. We will explore three tombs here, each adorned with vibrant paintings that depict daily life in ancient times.Next, we encounter the stunning temple of Medinet Habu, built by Ramses II, renowned for its detailed war scenes and exceptional preservation. A pause at the impressive Colossi of Memnon, the towering statues of Amenhotep III, follows. Our journey then leads us to the Valley of the Queens, where Queen Hatshepsut's extraordinary temple, a remarkable architectural achievement by Egypt's first female pharaoh, awaits.Continuing, we explore the renowned Valley of the Kings, home to the hidden tombs of the most prominent pharaohs. The visit includes access by electric cart to the general site and the notable tomb of Ramses, available for an additional fee. Returning to the East Bank, we have free time for lunch before our afternoon adventure.Later, we visit Karnak, the largest and most significant religious complex of ancient Egypt, featuring the expansive temple of Amun-Ra and the less frequented Khinsu temple. We also explore the Luxor Museum, showcasing a captivating collection of artefacts and mummies uncovered locally. As night falls, the Luxor Temple's enchanting lighting offers a truly magical experience. For those inclined, there's time afterward to explore the lively souk nearby. Please note that our itinerary may adjust to ensure a smoother experience based on weather conditions and aiming to visit these sites during quieter periods.
Day 14 - Luxor
Following a hearty breakfast, we'll arrange your transfer to the airport from Luxor, bringing your journey to a close.
