Day 1 - Exploring Portofino
La Spezia - Portofino - Cinque Terre - La Spezia. Welcome to La Spezia, an ideal base for discovering the UNESCO-listed Cinque Terre. Meet your tour leader in the morning and take the train to Santa Margherita Ligure, a lively seaside town on the Italian Riviera. From here we continue by boat to Portofino, a colourful harbour known for its elegance and relaxed charm. You will have free time to explore and enjoy gelato in the Piazzetta.
We then take the train to Monterosso, the largest village in Cinque Terre, where you can unwind on the wide sandy beach. Enjoy a glass of local limoncino and watch the sunset before returning to La Spezia for an optional group dinner.
Meeting Point: We meet in La Spezia at 11:00 am. The exact location will be shared before departure.
Please note: This tour is created for younger travellers looking for a backpacker-style experience and the chance to meet new people. The average age is around 21 to 35 and we are unable to take travellers over 39. Other group tours are available for all ages and our team can help you find the right trip.
Day 2 - Cinque Terre
La Spezia - Cinque Terre - La Spezia. Get ready for a full day in Cinque Terre. We start with the train to Corniglia, a village set high above the sea with sweeping views along the coast. After climbing the 382 steps to the centre, we begin an easy and scenic walk along the Azul Trail, which takes around an hour and a half and finishes in Vernazza.
Vernazza is a great place to try a seafood cone and focaccia before spending some time on the beach. Afterwards we visit a traditional winery for a hands-on pesto session where you will learn techniques you can use at home. This is followed by tastings of local wine, olive oils and focaccia for an authentic Ligurian experience.
We then continue to Manarola, known for its colourful houses set against dramatic cliffs and impressive coastal views. Our final stop is Riomaggiore where you can choose to kayak along the shoreline or relax with a sunset aperitivo. We return to La Spezia afterwards and the evening is yours.
please note: The pesto-making class can accommodate vegetarian requests, but it is not suitable for vegan participants. The walk on the Azul Trail covers approximately 3.2 kilometres and takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes. The route reaches a maximum height of about 220 metres and is considered simple in difficulty.
Day 3 - Porto Venere
La Spezia - Porto Venere. On our final day, we head to Porto Venere for a relaxed afternoon. Spend your time soaking up the sun, exploring charming streets, or enjoying fresh local cuisine by the water.
Our tour comes to an end in Porto Venere, and you are free to continue your travels independently or head to the airport.
