Day 1 - Kochi
Upon arrival at Kochi International Airport, you will be welcomed by your tour representatives and transferred to your hotel. Kochi, formerly known as Cochin, is a city rich in cultural diversity, home to ancient Christian and Jewish communities alongside Hindu, Muslim and Buddhist traditions. Its colonial history is evident in the Portuguese, Dutch and British influences seen throughout the citys architecture. In the afternoon, we will explore Kochis historic districts on foot. Our walking tour includes Jew Town, where we visit the Pardesi Synagogue (closed Fridays and Saturdays), the Mattancherry Palacelocally known as the Dutch Palace (closed Fridays), Fort Kochi with its European-style streets and houses, the iconic Chinese Fishing Nets along the northern shore, and St Francis Church, set near a traditional English village green. As the sun sets, enjoy watching the fishermen at work before we return to the hotel for the night.
Day 2 - Kochi - Mlappara
After breakfast, we depart for Periyar, arriving around midday to check in. This region is known for its rolling hills, spice plantations and abundant wildlife. We will enjoy an afternoon boat ride on Periyar Lake, a prime spot for observing the sanctuarys diverse animals. Keep an eye out for elephants bathing in the water, as well as sambhar deer, bison, spotted deer, tigers, leopards, Malabar flying squirrels and mongooses. The boat trip is subject to water levels. After the cruise, we return to the hotel for an overnight stay in Periyar.
Day 3 - Kumarakom
After breakfast, we travel to Kumarakom, a charming village set on the backwaters of Kerala along the eastern shore of Vembanad Lake. This area is renowned as a bird sanctuary, home to a variety of waterfowl including cuckoos and wild ducks. In winter, you may witness impressive flocks of migratory wild ducks arriving from Siberia. Kumarakom offers a peaceful atmosphere, where life moves at a gentle pace. Around midday, we check in to the hotel, leaving the afternoon free for you to explore and enjoy this tranquil setting at your leisure. Overnight in Kumarakom.
Day 4 - Kumarakom - Alleppey - Alappuzha
After breakfast, we take a short 30-minute drive to Kumarakoms boat jetty to board a traditional houseboat, known locally as a Kettuvallom. These large, tapering barges were originally used to transport rice and goods across Keralas waterways. Built entirely without nails, their jackwood planks are tied with coir ropes and sealed with a natural resin from boiled cashew kernels. Todays houseboats are equipped with comfortable bedrooms, modern bathrooms, living areas, kitchens and balconies where you can relax on cushions. Most are propelled by local oarsmen, though some have engines. As we glide through the tranquil backwaters, youll have the chance to observe daily life along the shores, untouched by time. Enjoy a leisurely day on board, taking in the peaceful surroundings before spending the night aboard the houseboat. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
Day 5 - Alleppey - Kovalam
After breakfast, we leave the houseboat and transfer to Kovalam, a tranquil seaside resort on the Arabian Sea, located about 16 kilometres from Thiruvananthapuram city centre. Kovalam, meaning Coconut Tree Grove in Malayalam, is framed by beautiful beaches and lush coconut palms. Upon arrival, we check in at the hotel, leaving the rest of the day free for you to explore the famous beachesEves Beach and Lighthouse Beach. The calm waters are perfect for swimming, and there are excellent facilities for sunbathing and enjoying Ayurvedic massages. Overnight in Kovalam.
