Day 1 - Berlin
Welcome to your journey! Upon arrival in Berlin, we'll ensure a smooth transfer to your hotel, allowing you to settle in and unwind. You'll have some free time to explore at your own pace. In the afternoon, information regarding the start of your tour will be available on the boards located at the hotel reception. Enjoy your first taste of Berlin, a city rich in history and culture, as you prepare for the adventures ahead. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Berlin
On our second day in Berlin, we delve into the heart of this dynamic city with a guided panoramic tour. We explore Berlin's rich history and vibrant culture with visits to the historic centre and Museum Island. Our journey through the city reveals architectural marvels such as the Reichstag and the iconic Brandenburg Gate. You'll experience the bustling energy of Berlin's shopping streets and the tranquillity of its beautiful parks. As part of our exploration, we pause to reflect at the poignant Holocaust Memorial and the Berlin Wall Memorial Museum, standing testaments to the citys past. For those interested in extending their exploration, there is an optional excursion to Potsdam, where you can admire its stunning palaces.
Day 3 - Berlin - Dresden - Bamberg - Nuremberg
Today, our journey takes us from Berlin to Dresden, a vibrant city situated along the banks of the River Elbe. Known for its magnificent architecture, Dresden offers an opportunity to marvel at its splendid palace. Afterwards, we'll continue our travels into Bavaria, arriving in the charming city of Bamberg. Be sure to explore the enchanting area known as Little Venice during your visit. Our adventure continues to Nuremberg, Bavarias second-largest city, steeped in history. We suggest you visit the site marking the location of Hitler's Coliseum to gain insight into the events that unfolded there.
Day 4 - Nuremberg - Kloster Weltenburg - Dachau - Munich
Today promises to be filled with unique experiences. Our journey begins in Kelheim, where we'll embark on a brief cruise through the picturesque Danube Gorge. Our first destination is Kloster Weltenburg, a remarkable Benedictine monastery dating back to 1040. From there, we'll proceed to Dachau to tour the sobering Nazi concentration camp museum. Following lunch, we'll continue to Munich, where you'll have the chance to explore the impressive BMW Welt, a cutting-edge exhibition venue showcasing the celebrated German automobile brand, BMW Group. We'll also visit the area encompassing the Olympiastadion, an iconic site of the 1972 Olympic Games. Afterwards, enjoy free time in Munich's historic centre. Here, you can explore the vibrant Marienplatz, browse the iconic Viktualienmarkt open-air market, unwind in the Englischer Garten, or sample the offerings in a traditional beer house. Please note: During winter months or when the Danube's water levels are low, the cruise will not operate. In such cases, this section of the itinerary will be adjusted, allowing for a visit to Landshut. Additionally, Kloster Weltenburg will be closed in winter, but its exterior remains viewable.
Day 5 - Munich - Fussen - Rothenburg - Frankfurt
As we venture through stunning alpine vistas, we proceed to Fssen and the enchanting Neuschwanstein Castle. From there, we take a bus to Mary's Bridge, where we are treated to spectacular views of the surrounding gorge. You have the option to return by foot or enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride, which is not included in the tour. Continuing our journey along the Romantic Road, we reach Rothenburg, a charming town encased within ancient walls, where we will explore the delightful Christmas Museum, with admission covered. Our day concludes in Frankfurt, the financial heart of Germany, rich in culture and history.
Day 6 - Frankfurt - Cruise on the Rhine - Cologne - Dortmund
We begin our day exploring the iconic regions of the Rhine and Moselle Valleys, known for their rich history and quaint villages. Our first activity is a delightful cruise on the Rhine, between Rdesheim and Sankt Goar, where you'll witness some of the most picturesque landscapes along the river. Following this serene journey, we travel to the Moselle River and stop for lunch in Cochem, a charming village graced by a thousand-year-old castle towering over the Rhine's banks. Afterwards, we head to Cologne, where you have time to visit the magnificent Gothic cathedral, a marvel of medieval architecture that once held the title of the tallest building in the world until the late 1800s. Take this opportunity to also enjoy a stroll along the lively Rhine promenade and explore the city's vibrant centre before we continue to our hotel in Dortmund. Please note that during major events, accommodation might be arranged in a nearby city.
Day 7 - Dortmund - Fairy Tale Route - Hannover
Today, well set off on an enchanting adventure through the Fairy Tale Route, tracing the tales and landscapes that inspired the Brothers Grimm. Our first stop is Trendelburg, a charmingly fortified village, where you can explore the impressive medieval castle and its renowned Rapunzel Toweradmission is included. Our journey continues through picturesque roads and dense forests reminiscent of the timeless story of Hansel and Gretel. We'll pause for lunch in Hxter, an energetic town where well visit Corvey Abbey, a 9th-century monastery and UNESCO World Heritage Site, once again with admission included. Next, well head to Polle to discover the ruins of Cinderellas Castle, with entry covered. Moving on, we arrive in Hamelin, forever linked with the legend of the Pied Piper. After tracing the tales there, our route takes us to Hanover, where you will have some time to meander around the old town hall area. Please note that during fairs or conferences, accommodation may be arranged in nearby cities, and Corvey Abbey remains closed from November to February.
Day 8 - Hannover - Hamburg - Flensburg - Aarhus
After breakfast, we'll set off for Hamburg, known for its bustling port and scenic lake views. You'll have time to explore this dynamic city and enjoy lunch before we continue our journey to Flensburg. Situated at the German-Danish border, Flensburg boasts a charming marina and a quaint seaside ambience. From here, our route will take us through the Jutland Peninsula, leading us to Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark, where we'll spend the evening.
Day 9 - Aarhus - Kristiansand Ferry - Kristiansand - Stavanger
We will set off for Hirtshals and board a ferry across the North Sea to Norway, embarking on a three-hour journey to Kristiansand. From Kristiansand, we will continue along Norways breathtaking southern coastline, eventually reaching the quaint town of Flekkefjord. Our journey today concludes in Stavanger, a picturesque town with a lively port nestled beside a fjord. Please note that the ferry schedule may vary by month, but you can generally expect to have time for lunch on board.
Day 10 - Stavanger - Bergen
Leaving Stavanger, we're greeted with a nod to the region's Viking heritage at the Swords in Rock monument. Our journey then winds through stunning Norwegian landscapes via tunnels and bridges, with parts of our route taking place on boat along the breathtaking fjord coastline. Notably, one of these tunnels is the world's deepest undersea tunnel. The boat trips provide a relaxing respite, offering the perfect opportunity to soak in the dramatic scenery.We'll reach Bergen by lunchtime, where a cable car ride up Mount Flyen awaits, providing spectacular views over the town and the surrounding fjord. Once back at the base of the mountain, you'll have free time to explore this charming city, known as the gateway to the fjords. Stroll along the historic Bryggen Wharf, a UNESCO World Heritage site, or venture into the vibrant fish market for a taste of local culture. Bergen's blend of natural beauty and rich history ensures a memorable visit.
Day 11 - Bergen - Sognefjord - Oslo
Today, we will journey through more of Norway's awe-inspiring landscapes, rich with fjords, glaciers, lakes, and forests. Our adventure begins with a visit to Sognefjord, the largest fjord in Norway, where we will pause at the beautiful Tvindefossen Waterfall. Here, you can take in the majestic surroundings before we set off on a cruise between Gudvangen and Aurland. This hour-and-a-half voyage offers a chance to relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. Consider having lunch on board for the best experience.After our time on the water, we'll traverse stunning snow-draped vistas and drive through the Aurland Tunnel, the world's longest road tunnel. We will briefly stop to admire the exterior of Borgund Stave Church, renowned as the best-preserved medieval wooden church in Norway. Our travels conclude today in Oslo, where you will have free time to explore the city's vibrant port, main streets, and the notable artworks throughout Frogner Park.
Day 12 - Oslo - Orebro - Stockholm
We begin our day in Oslo with a guided panoramic tour of Norway's vibrant capital. Here, modern architecture harmoniously blends with classical edifices, enveloped by rich landscapes and expansive parks. Oslos commitment to sustainability has earned it the title of European Green Capital. Following the tour, youll have leisure time to further explore the city's charms at your own pace.Leaving Oslo, we travel towards Sweden, passing through picturesque forests and serene lakes. Our next stop is rebro, a historic town set beside a beautiful lake, known for its impressive castle and quaint old town. Youll have some time to take a leisurely stroll and soak in the local atmosphere before we continue our journey to Stockholm, where well arrive in the evening. Enjoy the rest of your evening at leisure in this captivating city, renowned for its stunning archipelago and cultural treasures.
Day 13 - Stockholm
We set out today to explore the enchanting city of Stockholm, a capital uniquely spread across 14 interconnected islands. Our guided panoramic tour will take us through Gamla Stan, the vibrant old quarter affectionately known as "the city between bridges." Here, well encounter significant landmarks like the Nobel Prize Museum, situated beside the historic Stortorget Square which honours Nobel laureates. We will also visit the Cathedral and the Royal Palace. Whenever the opportunity arises, well pause at Fjllgatan for panoramic views of the city. Later, youll have the opportunity to explore at your own pace. We suggest delving into the museums and parks, or if you wish, you may choose to visit the City Hall and the Vasa Museum for an in-depth experience.
Day 14 - Stockholm - Stockholm - Turku Ferry
Spend the day at your leisure in vibrant Stockholm, where you can explore the city's diverse range of museums, parks, and cultural attractions at your own pace. In the evening, we will embark on a modern ferry bound for Finland, where you'll enjoy a comfortable overnight stay in double en-suite cabins. The journey promises a restful night at sea as we head towards new adventures on our tour.
Day 15 - Stockholm - Turku Ferry - Naantali - Helsinki
As we arrive in Finland, make sure to step onto the deck for sunrise views of the land Islands, an archipelago of lush, forested isles. Once we disembark, you can explore Turku, a city known for its historic Swedish influence. Our journey then leads us to Naantali, a quaint coastal town adorned with charming wooden homes. Continuing onwards, we arrive in Helsinki around midday. The afternoon is yours to discover the delights of Helsinki, including its bustling old market, stunning Russian-influenced architecture, and beautiful churches.
Day 16 - Helsinki
Today, we will enjoy a scenic voyage to the Suomenlinna Islands, a group of six islands hosting a remarkable fortress that once safeguarded Helsinki's entrance and is now recognised as a World Heritage Site. You'll have the opportunity to wander and explore the islands, traversing them via pedestrian bridges. After this fascinating visit, the afternoon is yours to spend as you wish. Our tour concludes here, leaving you with cherished memories. Before departing, please double-check your flight time to see if an extra night's stay is necessary.
