Day 1 - Paris - Rouen - Arromanches - Caen
We begin our adventure in Paris, setting out early towards Normandy. Our first stop is Giverny, where well visit Monets House and its magnificent gardens, provided its between May and October. This offers us an insight into the Impressionist movement, which was significantly inspired by the Normandy region. Continuing our journey, we reach Rouen, the capital of Normandy, where youll find medieval streets leading to a stunning cathedral. Youll have time here for a leisurely stroll and lunch. In the afternoon, we proceed to Arromanches, a place steeped in history as it was central to the D-Day landings during World War II. Our travels today conclude in Caen, where youll have a chance to relax and explore the central district at your own pace. Please keep in mind that from November to April, Monets House is closed. Throughout our tour, travellers may join or leave the group at different points; however, the group will never exceed its maximum size. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Caen - Mont-Saint-Michel - Saint-Malo - Dinan - Rennes
In the morning, we embark on our journey to Mont-Saint-Michel, famously known as The Marvel. This unique site is surrounded by the sea, and you'll have ample time to explore its historic streets and the iconic abbey perched atop the island. Our next stop is in Brittany, where we visit the fortified town of Saint-Malo. Here, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy lunch within the city's formidable ramparts. In the afternoon, we continue to the picturesque village of Dinan. This charming Breton settlement invites us to savour a traditional crpe with a refreshing drink. Our day concludes in Rennes, the capital of Brittany, where we explore its historic centre, renowned for its striking and monumental architecture.
Day 3 - Rennes - Angers - Tours - Villandry - Amboise
Today, we depart from Rennes, heading towards Angers. For those interested, there's an opportunity to explore the castle, which houses the renowned Apocalypse Tapestry, the largest medieval tapestry in the world. Our journey then takes us into the picturesque Loire Valley, where we'll arrive in Tours, the vibrant capital of the region, beautifully situated along the Loire River. Here, you'll have time to wander and enjoy lunch at your leisure. In the afternoon, we'll continue to Chteau de Villandry, famed for its exquisite formal gardens admission to the gardens is included. After taking in the splendour of Villandry, we proceed to Amboise. This charming city, known for its captivating medieval quarter, is where we'll be staying. Dinner will be provided, offering a chance to relax and reflect on the day's adventures.
Day 4 - Amboise - Chenonceaux - Chambord - Limoges
Begin a day of exploration in the enchanting Loire Valley with a morning walk around Amboise. This charming town is home to the Chteau du Clos Luc, where the legendary Leonardo da Vinci spent his final years. We'll then journey further into the region to visit the magnificent Chteau de Chenonceau. Constructed like a bridge over the River Cher, its stunning architecture and picturesque setting make it one of the most iconic castles in France. Tickets for this visit are included in the tour. Our exploration of the Loire Valley continues with a visit to Chambord, the largest castle in the area, where you'll enjoy access to its extensive park. As the day progresses, we venture into the heart of central France, arriving in Limoges, a city famed for its exquisite porcelain. We suggest taking some time to explore its historic centre, particularly the remarkable Saint Etienne Cathedral, before continuing your journey.
Day 5 - Limoges - Sarlat - Beynac-et-Cazenac - Rocamadour
Our day begins as we leave Limoges and head towards the beautiful Dordogne region, renowned for its verdant landscapes and charming villages. We'll start our exploration with a visit to Lascaux, where we'll delve into the fascinating prehistoric art displayed in the museum and its precise replica of the ancient cavestickets are included. As we continue, we'll arrive in Sarlat, a UNESCO World Heritage site celebrated for its impeccably preserved Renaissance architecture. Here you'll have some free time to wander through the historic centre and enjoy a leisurely lunch. In the afternoon, our adventure leads us to Beynac, where we will explore a stunning medieval castle set high above the river, with admission included. Our day draws to a close in Rocamadour, a picturesque medieval village with a dramatic sanctuary perched on a cliffside. We suggest you take the time to descend the Via Crucis and utilise the lift for your return. Dinner is provided to conclude this enriching day.
Day 6 - Rocamadour - Padirac Cave - Collonges-la-Rouge - Saint-Emilion - Bordeaux
Our day begins with a visit to the remarkable Padirac Chasm, where we will take an enchanting boat ride on the river, 75 metres below the surface. After this fascinating underground journey, we head to Collonges-la-Rouge, a striking village known for its unique red-stone buildings along the historic Way of St. James. Following lunch, we continue to Saint-Emilion, nestled in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region, offering you a chance to leisurely explore its charming streets. We will conclude the day by arriving in Bordeaux in the evening. Note that the Padirac Chasm may be closed from November until the end of March due to weather conditions.
Day 7 - Bordeaux - Lourdes
On the seventh day of our journey, we explore Bordeaux, a city whose entire centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll be captivated by attractions like the "Water Mirror" and the historic old town, with its inviting pedestrian streets and the impressive 11th-century cathedral. Enjoy free time for a leisurely walk along the banks of the Garonne River, lined with charming restaurants that are perfect for a relaxing lunch. If you're interested, you can visit the Cit du Vin, an interactive museum dedicated to the history and production of wine. In the afternoon, we travel towards the Pyrenees and arrive in Lourdes by mid-afternoon. You'll have the opportunity to visit the famous sanctuary, and we suggest experiencing the moving candlelit procession. Dinner is included, allowing you to unwind and reflect on the day's adventures.
Day 8 - Lourdes - Carcassonne - Narbona - Marseille
Today, we journey through southern France, beginning with a visit to Carcassonne, renowned for its stunning medieval walls. You'll have ample time to wander through this historic city and soak in its unique atmosphere. After a leisurely lunch, our travels continue to Narbonne. Here, you have the freedom to explore the charming old town and admire this historic Occitan city's heritage. By late afternoon, we will reach Marseille, France's vibrant second-largest city. We recommend a stroll through the lively Vieux-Port, where you can discover its bustling atmosphere and enjoy dining at one of the inviting small restaurants.
Day 9 - Marseille - Aix-en-Provence - Avignon - Pont du Gard - Barcelona
Our exploration of Provence begins today, starting with a visit to Aix-en-Provence, the hometown of the renowned painter Paul Czanne. Here, you're free to meander through the city's captivating historic centre, featuring quaint narrow streets, elegant fountains, and picturesque squares. Our journey then takes us to Avignon where you'll have some time to leisurely explore and enjoy lunch in this historic walled city situated along the Rhne. Once referred to as the "second Rome," Avignon was a centre of papal authority before becoming part of France in 1791, with the imposing Palace of the Popes testifying to its grand past. In the afternoon, we head to the Pont du Gard, a stunning Roman aqueduct where entrance is covered, allowing you to marvel at this iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site, noted as one of the best-preserved Roman structures. Our day concludes as we continue onwards to Catalonia, arriving in the vibrant city of Barcelona by evening.
Day 10 - Barcelona
Our day in Barcelona promises to be a memorable exploration of one of Europe's most captivating cities. In the morning, we will embark on a panoramic tour, unveiling Barcelona's vibrant character. Set beside the Mediterranean Sea, the city is famed for its modernist masterpieces by Gaudi, the lively Ramblas, and a storied past, accentuated by events like the Universal Exposition and the Olympics. In the afternoon, you have the freedom to explore at your leisure. As evening descends, well head to Maremagnum, a contemporary complex by the sea near Plaza de Coln. Here, you can wander through the bustling area and select from various dining options while soaking up the lively atmosphere.
Day 11 - Barcelona - Valencia - Madrid
Our journey along the Mediterranean continues as we head south, making a noteworthy stop in Pescolaa quaint, walled town by the sea, surrounded by charming landscapes, where we'll have time for a leisurely stroll. We then proceed to Valencia, a lively port city on the Levantine coast, arriving around lunchtime. Perhaps you'll sample the renowned paella here? At approximately half past four, we resume our journey towards Madrid, but first, we'll take a brief stop at the innovative City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia. Our arrival in Madrid is expected between 8:30 and 9:00 p.m. To welcome you, we'll include a transfer to Plaza Mayora bustling hotspot ideal for indulging in pinchos or sampling local wine at one of the many inviting restaurants. Please note that depending on the number of travellers, the trip from Valencia to Madrid might be on a high-speed train.
Day 12 - Madrid
Today, we'll embark on a thorough exploration of central Madrid. Our tour will take us to some of the city's most iconic landmarks, including the grand Paseo del Prado, the striking Cibeles and Neptuno fountains, and the renowned Puerta de Alcal. We'll also visit Plaza de Coln and the historic Plaza Mayor. Following this, we'll enjoy a leisurely walk through Retiro Park, a serene oasis nestled in the heart of the city, where you can admire the picturesque lake and the stunning Palacio de Cristal.In the spirit of Madrid's passion for football, we'll include a visit to the legendary Santiago Bernabu Stadium, the celebrated home of Real Madrid. With the morning's activities complete, you'll have the afternoon at your disposal to explore the city as you wish. Whether you choose to immerse yourself in its vibrant culture, enjoy some shopping, or simply relax at a caf, Madrid offers something for everyone. Later in the evening, we'll arrange a transfer back to your hotel.
