Day 1 - Cote d'Azur
Welcome to the stunning Cte d'Azur! Upon your arrival, we will arrange your transfer to the hotel. Once settled in, you have some free time to explore the area at your own pace. Take a moment to soak in the charming atmosphere of this world-renowned coastal region. Later in the day, you will find vital information regarding the start of your tour displayed on the boards located in the hotel reception area. Enjoy your first taste of France's sun-kissed Riviera. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Cote d'Azur - Sainte-Maxime - Saint-Tropez - Marseille
Today, we delve into the stunning Cte d'Azur and its iconic Mediterranean surroundings. After breakfast, we'll embark on a brief panoramic coach tour of Nice, the dazzling capital of the Cte d'Azur. Our drive along the renowned Promenade des Anglais will offer captivating views of the coastline. Well pass through Massena Square, at the heart of the city, and admire the charming old port. Our adventure continues to Sainte-Maxime, a quaint seaside town where we will stroll through its historic centre and visit the picturesque port, home to the notable "Square Tower" from the 16th century.Next, we embark on a scenic boat journey across the stunning bay to reach Saint-Tropez. Once a bustling fishing port, it now serves as a vibrant display for some of the world's most luxurious yachts. You'll have free time here to explore and savour lunch amidst the glamour of this trendy town. In the afternoon, we'll journey to Marseille, the second-largest city in France. Here, we will explore the bustling Vieux Port, or Old Port, immersing ourselves in its vibrant atmosphere to round off the day's adventures.
Day 3 - Marseille - Arles - Avignon - Lyon
Today, our journey takes us through the serene landscapes and historic treasures of Provence. We begin in Arles, a UNESCO World Heritage city, steeped in Roman and medieval history, and famously inspiring Van Gogh's artwork. Next, we make our way to Les Baux, a charming medieval village, where we include entry to the Carrires de Lumires. This remarkable underground show transforms ancient quarries into an immersive art experience with striking visuals and sound. Afterward, we head to Avignon, where we'll pause for lunch and a leisurely walk. Avignon is renowned for the Palais des Papes, a grand fortress and palace that dominates the cityscape. The day concludes with our journey to Lyon, where we'll explore the historic old town, a World Heritage Site. A highlight of our time here is the cable car ascent to the impressive Notre-Dame de Fourvire, offering panoramic views over the city. Please note that if the Carrires de Lumires show is unavailable, we will visit the Roman aqueduct of Pont du Gard instead.
Day 4 - Lyon - Tournus - Savigny Castle - Beaune - Dijon
Departing from Lyon, we venture into the picturesque Burgundy region. Our first stop is Tournus, a charming town known for its impressive stone gate and expansive abbey, perfect for a morning exploration. We then continue to Beaune, the renowned wine capital of Burgundy, where you'll have time to enjoy lunch and explore at your leisure. You might choose to visit the fascinating wine museum or explore the historic Hospice de Beaune. Our journey then takes us to the Savigny Castle, nestled in the heart of this wine-producing area. Built in the 15th century, the castle boasts a collection of extraordinary museums featuring motorbikes, racing cars, planes, and helicopters. We conclude our day in Dijon, Burgundys vibrant capital, famed for its lively streets and rich collection of medieval and Renaissance architecture, including the magnificent Palace of the Dukes.
Day 5 - Dijon - Abbey of Fontenay - Semur-en-Auxois - Vezelay - Paris
We depart Dijon bound for Fontenay Abbey, a remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, well tour this historic Cistercian abbey, a testament to medieval monastic life. Continuing our journey, we arrive in Semur-en-Auxois, a charming medieval town encircled by ancient, towering walls. As we remain in the Burgundy region, you'll have the chance to enjoy lunch and take a leisurely stroll in Vzelay, celebrated as one of Frances most picturesque villages. Known for its splendid basilica, Vzelay was historically significant as one of the starting points of the pilgrim route known as the Way of St. James. By afternoon, well proceed to Paris, where we will arrive in the evening, ready to embrace the vibrant city atmosphere.
Day 6 - Paris
We will delve into the captivating history of France at the splendid Palace of Versailles. You can explore the palace's celebrated gardens at your own pace, as admission is not included. After experiencing Versailles, we'll return to Paris to visit Montmartre, a delightful bohemian quarter renowned for its artists, painters, and vibrant cabarets. To truly grasp the magnificence of Paris, we'll embark on a panoramic city tour guided by a local expert, showcasing the city's grand avenues and iconic monuments. Afterwards, we'll return to the hotel. You might consider attending an optional variety show in the evening if you're interested.
Day 7 - Paris - Tours
Our adventure begins in vibrant Paris. We'll start by visiting the iconic Eiffel Tower, where you'll have the opportunity to ascend to the second floor, admission included. Following this, we'll indulge in a leisurely Seine River cruise lasting about an hour and fifteen minutes. This afternoon is yours to meander through Paris at your leisure, discovering the city's hidden gems. At 5:30 p.m., we'll depart for the Loire Valley, reaching the charming city of Tours by evening. Once arrived, we recommend a relaxed stroll through Tours beautiful historic centre, where you can enjoy dinner at a local eatery. Please note, if necessary due to logistical reasons, the visit to the Eiffel Tower might be rescheduled to a different time or day.
Day 8 - Tours - Bordeaux - Lourdes
Today, we commence our journey south through the picturesque vineyards, arriving in the city of Bordeaux. Here, the town centre is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offering an ideal stop for lunch and a leisurely exploration. You might wish to visit some of Bordeauxs notable landmarks, such as the Port of the Moon and the Cathedral of St. Andrew. Afterward, we will head towards the Pyrenees, reaching Lourdes by late afternoon. This evening, you have the opportunity to participate in the renowned candlelit procession, held from late March through October, and explore various sacred sites in the area. A delightful dinner will be provided at the hotel.
Day 9 - Lourdes - Carcassonne - Foix - Andorra
Our journey across the southern landscapes of France begins in the enchanting city of Carcassonne. You'll have the opportunity to explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its remarkably preserved medieval walls and stunning castle. As you wander through the historic district, known as La Cit, you'll be transported back in time. After enjoying lunch in this captivating city, we'll continue our adventure towards the Pyrenees, pausing briefly in the quaint medieval town of Foix. Here, you'll see the impressive Chteau de Foix, a fortress with enthralling tales to tell.Our route through the Pyrenees will reveal snow-capped peaks year-round as we make our way to the picturesque country of Andorra. Before reaching Andorra la Vella, the capital, we'll stop at Sant Joan de Caselles, a beautiful 12th-century Romanesque church offering a glimpse into the region's past. Once in Andorra la Vella, you'll have free leisure time to explore the bustling commercial streets or perhaps unwind at Caldea, Europe's largest thermal spa. To conclude the day, we'll provide a delicious dinner to all our travellers.
Day 10 - Andorra - Montserrat - Barcelona
After a leisurely morning in Andorra, where you may indulge in some shopping or simply enjoy a stroll, we will set off after lunch towards Catalonia. Our route takes us through picturesque mountain landscapes to the remarkable abbey of Santa Maria de Montserrat. Here, you'll experience a ride on a rack train, included as part of our journey, offering magnificent views as you ascend the mountain. Once there, take time to explore the sanctuary and soak in the serene atmosphere. Our day concludes as we travel to Barcelona, arriving in the late afternoon.
Day 11 - Barcelona
We'll start the morning with a panoramic tour of Barcelona, one of Europe's most captivating cities. Positioned along the Mediterranean coast, Barcelona is famed for its vibrant atmosphere and distinctive modernist architecture by Gaud, such as the renowned Sagrada Familia and Park Gell. Stroll down the lively Ramblas, soaking up the city's rich history, interwoven with landmarks from the Universal Exposition and the Olympic Games. In the afternoon, you're free to explore the city at your own paceperhaps visiting one of its many museums or delighting in some Catalan cuisine. As the day winds down, we'll take you to Maremagnum, a dynamic entertainment and dining area set by the sea, close to Plaza de Coln. Here, you'll have the pleasure of choosing from a range of eateries while enjoying the vibrant seaside atmosphere.
Day 12 - Barcelona
Following breakfast, our journey draws to a close in the vibrant city of Barcelona. As we bid farewell, we hope you carry with you cherished memories of the experiences and discoveries we've shared along the way.
