Day 1 - Copenhagen
As you arrive in the vibrant city of Copenhagen, we'll ensure your transition is seamless by arranging your transfer to the hotel. Once settled, youll have the rest of the day at your leisure to explore the charming Danish capital at your own pace. In the afternoon, head back to the hotel lobby where information boards will provide you with the details and logistics to kickstart your tour. This is just the beginning of your adventure through captivating Northern Europe. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Copenhagen - Rostock - Szczecin
After breakfast, we will set off towards Gedser, a charming town marking the southernmost point of Scandinavia. By 11 a.m., we will board a modern ferry for a two-hour crossing over the Baltic Sea to Germany. We suggest you enjoy lunch on board as we make our way to Rostock. On arrival, you'll have the opportunity to explore this lively city, home to Germany's largest Baltic port. Discover highlights like the historic Market Square, the City Hall, and St. Marys Church. We will then journey through the picturesque Pomerania region into Poland, reaching the historic university city of Szczecin by evening. Nestled along the Oder River, Szczecin features a charming historic centre where you can explore the Pomeranian Dukes Castle and enjoy the scenic riverside terraces. You'll have free time to wander and soak up the atmosphere.
Day 3 - Szczecin - Bydgoszcz - Torun - Warsaw
Following breakfast, we will set off through the tranquil landscapes of western Poland. This region, once part of Germany until the end of World War II, offers a glimpse into the complex history of Central Europe. Our first stop is Bydgoszcz, a charming city celebrated for its striking architecture, verdant parks, and intricate network of canals that connect the Vistula and Oder rivers. Here, you'll have some free time to wander the city and enjoy lunch.Our journey continues to Toru?, a remarkable Gothic city famed for its beautifully preserved historic centre. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the birthplace of the renowned astronomer Copernicus, Toru? is a treasure trove of history and culture. Take some time to explore the city on your own, and if you wish, you can visit the house-turned-museum dedicated to Copernicus. We will then continue on to Warsaw, the vibrant capital of Poland, arriving by the end of the day.
Day 4 - Warsaw
We begin our day with a sweeping tour of Warsaw led by a knowledgeable local guide. As Poland's political and economic heart, Warsaw seamlessly mixes contemporary architecture with carefully reconstructed historical edifices. Our tour takes us through the enchanting old town, where the Royal Palace and cobbled streets stand proudly as a testament to the city's resilience and restoration after wartime devastation. Recognised as a World Heritage site, this area brings history vividly to life. We will also visit the Palace of Culture, a notable skyscraper offered as a gift by the Soviet Union, reflect on the poignant history of what was Europe's largest Jewish ghetto, and enjoy a leisurely walk through Lazienki Park, home to the iconic Chopin Monument.In the afternoon, you have the freedom to delve deeper into Warsaw's vibrant cultural scene. Consider visiting museums like the National Museum or the Warsaw Rising Museum, or simply explore the bustling city centre, teeming with shops and activities.
Day 5 - Warsaw - Olsztyn - Elblag Canal - Malbork - Gdansk
Following breakfast, we venture northwards into the picturesque landscapes of northern Poland. Our initial stop is Olsztynek, where we will delve into the past at the open-air Museum of Folk Architecture. Admission is included, allowing you to explore the charming wooden houses, ancient mills, and a traditional church, offering a fascinating glimpse into the region's heritage. Our journey then takes us to the remarkable Elblag Canal, Poland's longest navigable canal. We will visit a museum in this area to observe the unique engineering feat where boats are transported over land on rails to conquer elevation changes.Next, we will head to the majestic Malbork Castle, with admission to its 'green route' included. This impressive medieval fortress is one of Europe's largest, constructed in the 13th century by the Teutonic Order, and is now recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will arrive in Gdansk in the evening previously known as Danzig. The city's historic centre is both vibrant and enchanting, and we highly recommend taking an evening stroll to soak in its lively atmosphere.
Day 6 - Gdansk - Sopot - Sopot - Nynshamn Ferry
After breakfast, we'll explore the European Solidarity Centre in Gdansk. This modern building honours the Solidarity movement, which significantly contributed to the fall of the Soviet Union. Highlights include a poignant monument to the workers who lost their lives. Our visit continues at the Museum of the Second World War, providing a profound insight into the tragic conflict that claimed the lives of millions in Poland. After taking some time to discover the historic centre, we'll travel to Sopot, a delightful seaside resort on the Baltic coast. Known for its lively atmosphere, Sopot boasts a long sandy beach and one of Europes longest wooden piers, perfect for a scenic walk. In the evening, we'll board a modern cruise-style ferry bound for Sweden. The ferry departs at 7:30 p.m., and we'll overnight in comfortable cabins, with breakfast included the following morning.
Day 7 - Sopot - Nynshamn Ferry - Stockholm
After a pleasant journey, our ferry arrives in Karlskrona, situated in the south of Sweden, early in the morning at around 06:30. From here, we'll proceed towards Stockholm, making a stop in Vstervik. This charming coastal town invites you to explore its quaint historic centre. Our afternoon sees us arriving in Stockholm, the capital city magnificently set across fourteen islands within the Baltic Seas archipelago. These islands are seamlessly connected by a network of bridges and ferries. Renowned for its rich heritage, captivating architecture, and harmonious blend of the traditional with the modern, Stockholm offers much to discover. The afternoon is yours to indulge in at leisure. We recommend wandering through the historic centre and perhaps visiting some of its intriguing museums and lush parks.
Day 8 - Stockholm
Today, we will embark on a panoramic tour of Stockholm, a city uniquely spread across 14 interlinked islands. Our exploration begins in Gamla Stan, the lively old quarter also known as "the city between bridges." Here, you'll admire magnificent structures such as the Nobel Prize Museum, positioned beside Stortorget's main square, celebrating Nobel Prize laureates. We'll also visit the Cathedral and the Royal Palace. Whenever possible, we'll pause to take in the breathtaking views from Fjllgatan viewpoint. The remainder of the day is yours to enjoy at your leisure. We recommend exploring the city's museums and parks, or you might choose to visit the City Hall and the Vasa Museum.
Day 9 - Stockholm - Stockholm - Turku Ferry
You have a free day to enjoy Stockholm at your leisure, offering the perfect opportunity to explore more of this captivating city. Whether wandering through its vibrant neighbourhoods, indulging in the Nordic cuisine, or visiting the many museums and galleries, there's something for everyone. As the day draws to a close, we'll embark on a modern ferry for an overnight journey to Finland. You will stay in comfortable double en-suite cabins, ensuring a restful night as we sail across the Baltic Sea.
Day 10 - Stockholm - Turku Ferry - Naantali - Helsinki
As dawn breaks, we approach Finland and recommend heading to the ships deck to witness the stunning sunrise over the land Islands a mesmerising archipelago of lush, forested islands. Once ashore, you'll have time to explore Turku, a city renowned for its Swedish heritage. Our adventure continues to nearby Naantali, a quaint seaside town known for its delightful wooden houses. We'll then proceed to Helsinki, arriving around lunchtime. The afternoon is yours to discover the city's vibrant character, from its historical market and impressive Russian-influenced architecture to its magnificent churches. Enjoy immersing yourself in Helsinki's unique blend of Nordic and Eastern European influences.
Day 11 - Helsinki
Today, we embark on a picturesque boat trip across to the Suomenlinna Islands. These six islands are home to an impressive fortress that once defended Helsinki's entrance and is now recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While there, well explore the islands, linked by charming pedestrian bridges, providing a unique perspective on the city's maritime history. After exploring the fortifications, you'll have free time to wander at your leisure, perhaps taking in more of Helsinki's vibrant atmosphere or enjoying the islands scenic views.
Day 12 - Helsinki
After breakfast, our adventure concludes, leaving you with unforgettable memories of your time in Helsinki and the remarkable journey we've shared.
