Day 1 - Liberia - Upala
Your Costa Rican adventure begins on arrival at Daniel Oduber Quirs International Airport in Liberia, located in the north-west of the country. Upon arrival, a representative will meet you and accompany you on the transfer to the Rincon de la Vieja region, where you will spend your first night. This area is known for its volcanic landscapes and natural beauty, providing an excellent introduction to Costa Ricas diverse environment. Overnight accommodation is arranged in Rincon de la Vieja.
Day 2 - Bagaces
After a hearty breakfast, we visit Rincon de la Vieja National Park, focusing on the Las Pailas sector. This area vividly displays the volcanic activity of Rincon de la Vieja, the largest and most active volcano in the region. You will see steam and sulphur rising from natural fumaroles, boiling pools of volcanic water, and bubbling mud pits. Accompanied by your bilingual naturalist guide, we hike the 3.5-kilometre Las Pailas loop trail through dry tropical forest, encountering diverse wildlife including over 300 bird species, armadillos, peccaries, iguanas, snakes, coatis, and monkeys. After the hike, we return to the hotel to collect your belongings before transferring in the early afternoon to Bijagua, a small town nestled between the Miravalles and Tenorio volcanoes. Bijagua offers a variety of activities such as hiking, visiting natural hot springs, horseback riding, agricultural tours, bird-watching, and butterfly spotting. Please note the park entrance fee is not included. Overnight in Bijagua.
Day 3 - Bijagua - Bagaces
After breakfast at the hotel, we set out on a scenic hike to Ro Celeste, known as the Light Blue River for its striking turquoise watersa rare natural phenomenon. As we follow the rivers winding trail, youll experience the peacefulness of the lush forest, encounter steaming hot springs, and admire a stunning waterfall. After the hike, we return to the hotel where you can relax and unwind. Overnight in Bijagua.
Day 4 - Bijagua - Monteverde
Enjoy a hearty breakfast at the hotel before transferring to Monteverde in the Puntarenas province. Known for its cloud forests and rich biodiversity, Monteverde offers a unique blend of misty landscapes, coffee plantations, and abundant wildlife. The charming town of Santa Elena features cosy restaurants and artisan shops, perfect for a leisurely stroll. Spend the day at your own paceexplore independently or join an optional guided tour such as the Selvatura Treetop Walkway, which includes eight suspension bridges spanning three kilometres, offering stunning views above the rainforest canopy. Alternatively, the Don Juan Coffee Tour provides insight into Costa Ricas coffee, chocolate, and sugar cane production, with a focus on coffee and local folklore. Both tours are optional and not included. Overnight in Monteverde.
Day 5 - Monteverde
After breakfast, we take a guided hike through the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, established in 1972 and renowned for its exceptional biodiversity and conservation efforts. Spanning 3,500 hectares, the reserve encompasses four distinct ecological life zones and shelters hundreds of species of mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, insects, and plants, including native cloud forest trees, mosses, and vines. You may choose to enhance your experience by joining one of the optional tours you may have missed yesterdayeither the Selvatura Treetop Walkway, which offers a unique perspective above the forest canopy via suspension bridges, or the Don Juan Coffee Tour, where you can learn about Costa Ricas coffee production and cultural heritage. These tours are not included. We spend the night in Monteverde.
Day 6 - Quepos
After breakfast, we travel south to the Quepos area, home to Manuel Antonio National Parkone of Costa Ricas most popular protected areas. This compact park is renowned for its stunning combination of pristine beaches, mangroves, and lush forest, set within a region that balances agriculture, cattle ranching, and tourism. Once checked into your hotel, you have the afternoon at leisure to relax or join an optional excursion. You might choose a catamaran cruise departing from Quepos, which sails along the coastline behind Manuel Antonio National Park before anchoring at Biesanz Bay for snorkelling or relaxation on board. Alternatively, the ocean kayaking tour offers a 2.5-hour paddle from Quepos Pier, providing opportunities to spot marine life such as pelicans and flying fish both above and below the waters surface. Return transfers for these activities are included. The catamaran and kayaking tours are optional and not included. Overnight in Manuel Antonio.
Day 7 - Quepos
After breakfast, we will collect you from your hotel for a guided tour of Manuel Antonio National Park. The trail is a gentle, scenic loop of around two miles, where your expert guide will share insights into the rainforests natural history, pointing out the diverse plants and animals along the way. The park is home to three of Costa Ricas four native tropical primates, and you may also spot sloths, birds, reptiles, wild orchids, butterflies, and lush vegetation. Your guides carry high-quality monoculars and telescopes to enhance wildlife viewing and photography. Midway through the walk, we will pause for about 20 minutes at the famous Third Beacha perfect spot to relax on the soft sand or enjoy the waves. After the tour, you will be returned to your hotel, where you can spend the rest of the day at leisure or choose to join an optional Catamaran Relaxing Tour or Ocean Kayaking excursion. Both tours offer unique ways to experience the stunning coastline but are not included. Overnight in Manuel Antonio.
Day 8 - Manuel Antonio - Liberia
Enjoy a final breakfast in Costa Rica before a private transfer from Manuel Antonio to Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia. This marks the end of your journey as you prepare for your onward flight home. Breakfast is included.
