Day 1 - Beijing
Welcome to China! Upon your arrival in Beijing, we will whisk you away to your hotel for a chance to unwind. In the early evening, join us for a transfer to Wangfujing Street, a lively pedestrian avenue teeming with shops and restaurants. This vibrant area offers a fantastic introduction to the city's energy and diversity. Dinner is included in this evening's itinerary, after which we'll return you to your hotel, ensuring a comfortable night's rest. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Beijing
Today, we embark on a journey to one of the world's most renowned landmarks: the Great Wall of China, visiting the Mutianyu section. This ancient feat of engineering, spanning over two millennia, meanders through stunning mountainous terrain. We'll ascend and descend using the cable car, allowing us to appreciate the remarkable vistas of this historic structure.On our return to Beijing, we'll explore the lively 798 Art District, a former military factory transformed into a vibrant centre for contemporary art, teeming with galleries and creative studios. Our journey continues to the Temple of Heaven, one of China's most significant sacred sites and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This splendid complex, once used by emperors to pray for fruitful harvests, offers a glimpse into China's rich cultural past.After a full day of exploration, we'll relax with a revitalising foot massage and experience the tranquility of a Tai Chi class, immersing ourselves in the harmonious balance of traditional Chinese culture. To conclude our day, we'll enjoy a Peking duck dinner, a local culinary delight that promises to leave a lasting impression with its exquisite flavours.
Day 3 - Beijing
Today, we delve into the heart of Beijing, a city teeming with history and breathtaking sights. Our day begins with a visit to the Forbidden City, a colossal architectural wonder that served as the imperial palace for nearly 500 years, during the reign of 24 emperors. This magnificent complex is a testament to China's rich history and cultural heritage.Next, we head to Jingshan Park, where you'll find Coal Hill. This vantage point, one of Beijing's best-preserved imperial gardens, offers stunning panoramic views of the Forbidden City, weather permitting. A short stroll will then take us to Tiananmen Square, an iconic landmark known as one of the world's largest public squares, where you'll also see the Great National Theatre, a striking modern architectural feat.After an included lunch, our exploration continues at the Summer Palace, a former royal retreat of the Qing Dynasty. Known for its exquisite gardens and tranquil lakes, the Summer Palace is a perfect example of Chinese landscape design.The afternoon offers an opportunity to absorb the traditional charm of Beijing. We'll enjoy a leisurely tricycle ride through the historic Hutong districts, offering a glimpse into local life. As we weave through these narrow alleyways, you'll have a chance to explore traditional shops and visit a Siheyuan, a classic courtyard house characteristic of Beijing's architectural legacy.We round off our day by returning to the hotel for an overnight stay. Please note that due to heritage protection measures, access to the Forbidden City may be limited. If visiting is not possible, you will explore the Confucius Temple and the Lama Temple, both significant sites in Chinese history and culture.
Day 4 - Beijing - Nanjing
After a hearty breakfast, we will whisk you to the train station for an exhilarating ride on one of Chinas cutting-edge high-speed trains. Travelling at an impressive 300 km/h, we will cover close to 1,000 kilometres in less than four hours before reaching Nanjing. This vibrant city, home to eight million residents, is often considered one of the most pleasant cities in China, thanks to its dynamic commercial scene and rich historical tapestry.Upon arrival in Nanjing, embrace the lively spirit of this modern metropolis as we delve into its historical treasures. Our first stop is Purple Mountain, where we will visit the majestic Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum a splendid homage to the architect of modern China. We will also explore the picturesque Linggu Temple, a serene Buddhist retreat surrounded by lush greenery that offers a peaceful escape from the citys bustle.After our enriching exploration, you'll have the afternoon at your leisure to further discover what Nanjing has to offer. Wander through its streets, sample local delicacies, or simply soak up the bustling atmosphere. We will wrap up this engaging day with an overnight stay in Nanjing.
Day 5 - Nanjing - Suzhou - Tongli - Shanghai
We will embark on our journey to Suzhou, celebrated for its beautifully crafted classical gardens, which have earned a place on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Known historically as the leading silk producer, Suzhou is synonymous with grace and sophistication. Our tour includes a visit to the Garden of the Humble Administrator, the largest and most renowned of these gardens, where meandering paths, serene ponds, and verdant landscapes exemplify traditional Chinese design at its finest. Following this, you'll have free time to explore Pingjiang Road, a scenic historic street featuring canals, quaint teahouses, and artisan boutiques. Lunch is provided. In the afternoon, we proceed to Tongli, a charming water town whose narrow canals, stone bridges, and traditional residences capture the essence of ancient China. You'll enjoy a relaxing boat ride through its peaceful waterways, offering a glimpse into the town's enduring allure. Our day concludes as we journey onwards to Shanghai, where we will check in for the night.
Day 6 - Shanghai
We begin our day in Shanghai with a journey through its most renowned sites. Our exploration starts in Pudong, the city's cutting-edge financial district nestled across the Huangpu River, where bustling skyscrapers like the iconic Pearl Tower dominate the skyline. From there, we'll enjoy a scenic ferry crossing of the Shanghai River, affording marvellous vistas of both the historical and modern faces of the city.Our next destination is the Old City, where we wander through the tranquil Yuyuan Garden. This beautifully preserved private garden, constructed during the Ming Dynasty, offers a serene escape. While here, we'll partake in a traditional tea ceremony, a quintessential aspect of China's cultural legacy.Continuing on, our journey leads us to Xintiandi, a vibrant neighbourhood celebrated for its stylish boutiques, inviting cafs, and lively ambiance. We'll pause to enjoy an included lunch before our tour resumes in the afternoon. Our next stop is Tianzifang, where the former residential district has evolved into a maze of charming alleyways, filled with artisan shops and contemporary art galleries.We conclude our day with a stroll along The Bund, where the grand colonial-era buildings tell the story of European influence in Shanghai. Your afternoon is free for personal exploration. If you're inclined, seize the opportunity to embark on an optional boat trip to admire Shanghai's spectacular night-time panoramaan experience that promises to be truly unforgettable.
Day 7 - Shanghai - Tokyo
Upon arrival in Japan, you will be warmly welcomed and seamlessly transferred to your hotel via a shared shuttle bus following the completion of customs procedures. The remainder of the day provides you the opportunity to explore at your own pace, with the afternoon set aside for an introduction to the details of your upcoming tour. Enjoy your first day in this captivating country by taking in the sights at your leisure and preparing for the adventures ahead.
Day 8 - Tokyo
This morning, we'll embark on an enriching five-hour tour of Tokyo, a city where vibrant modernity blends seamlessly with its serene traditions. We'll start with a brief stop at the Zojoji Temple, offering a perfect vantage point for iconic views of the Tokyo Tower. The temple grounds are adorned with numerous Jizo statues, dressed in colourful caps and bibs, symbolising the protection of children.Next, we'll venture to Shibuya Crossing, celebrated as one of the busiest intersections worldwide, before visiting the tranquil Meiji Shrine, honouring Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. Our journey continues along Omotesando Avenue, a tree-lined street known for its elegant shops. We'll then gaze upon the picturesque parts of the Imperial Palace, including the renowned Nijubashi Bridge.As the tour progresses, we'll pass through Akihabara, famously known as "Electric Town," a hub for manga and anime enthusiasts. We'll also glimpse the Kokugikan, Japan's premier sumo wrestling arena, before concluding our tour in Asakusa. Here, we will visit the historic Sensoji Temple and explore Nakamise Street, renowned for its traditional wares. Lunch awaits at a local restaurant, after which we'll return to our hotel to relax. At 6:30 p.m., we'll reconvene in the hotel lobby and take the metro to explore the lively Shinjuku district. Known for its bustling nightlife, we'll stroll through its vibrant streets before enjoying dinner at a local eatery. We'll then return to our accommodation via metro, accompanied by our guide.
Day 9 - Tokyo - Mount Fuji - Kawaguchiko
On our ninth day, we'll embark on a marvellous adventure to the breathtaking Mount Fuji region, traversing scenic landscapes en route. Our journey begins at Arakurayama Sengen Park, where we can savour the quintessential views of Mount Fuji framed by elegant pagodas. We'll then continue to the charming settlement of Kawaguchiko, nestled amid rolling hills, vivid blooms, and the shimmering lake that shares its name. Here, we'll visit the tranquil Fuji Sengen Shrine, tucked away amongst ancient trees, marking the age-old starting point for pilgrimages to Mount Fuji. Well have a moment to reflect and appreciate the serenity of this spiritual place. Next, well indulge in a delightful boat ride on Lake Kawaguchiko, soaking in the peaceful beauty of our surroundings. From there, well make our way up Mount Fuji via a picturesque winding road to the Fifth Station, perched at an impressive altitude of 2,305 metres. Here, well be captivated by the panoramic views and lush forests. Note: During winter months or adverse weather conditions, access to the upper reaches of Mount Fuji may be restricted, so we will travel as far as conditions permit.Later, well return to Kawaguchiko, where youll have time for a leisurely walk by the lake, before heading to our traditional accommodation for tonight. Well be staying in an authentic ryokan, allowing us to unwind in the relaxing embrace of an onsen. Dinner will be served at the ryokan. Please note that our ryokan offers various room styles, ranging from traditional tatami floors to Western-style arrangements. Occasionally, we may stay in a Western-style hotel instead.
Day 10 - Kawaguchiko - Iyashi No Sato Nenba - Toyota - Kyoto
We embark on a scenic drive this morning, travelling a road that winds alongside picturesque lakes to reach Iyashi no Sato Nenba. This charming village, devastated by a typhoon in 1966, has been lovingly restored as an open-air museum. Traditional houses have been transformed into intriguing shops, restaurants, and cultural exhibits, providing a fascinating insight into Japan's heritage.Our next destination is the magnificent Shiraito Falls, a natural wonder of Japan where water cascades gracefully from a height of 20 metres. From here, we'll continue to Nagoya to visit the Toyota Museuman essential stop for automotive enthusiasts and those curious about the evolution of car technology.Finally, we'll proceed to Kyoto, where we'll spend the night, preparing for the adventures that await in this cultural haven.
Day 11 - Kyoto
Today, we will immerse ourselves in the wonders of Kyoto, a city with a rich history as the Imperial Court's home and Japan's capital from 794 to 1868. Remarkably untouched during World War II, Kyoto still retains its cultural and artistic heritage. Our day will begin in Arashiyama, where we will admire the stunning views from the Togetsukyo Bridge, often referred to as the "Bridge over the Moon". This scenic spot is perfect for taking in the natural beauty of the area.We will then visit the revered Tenryuji Temple, one of Kyoto's "five great Zen temples" and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After exploring its serene gardens, we will take a peaceful walk through the nearby mystical bamboo grove.Our exploration continues at the iconic Fushimi Inari Shrine, famous for its thousands of red torii gates, before moving on to the Imperial Palace. Well also visit Kinkakuji, the "Golden Pavilion", celebrated for its breathtaking architecture and peaceful gardens. The day's exploration offers ample opportunity to appreciate Kyoto's captivating spirit, and in the afternoon, you will have free time to wander through Gion, a traditional district known for its historic teahouses and geishas. This vibrant area is ideal for experiencing the city's cultural richness at your own pace.
Day 12 - Kyoto - Nara - Osaka
We will set off for Nara, where our first stop will be the magnificent Todaiji Temple. Built in 752, this impressive Buddhist site houses a giant statue of Buddha. Youll also have the delightful opportunity to meet the friendly deer that freely wander in the surrounding park, and it's a perfect spot to capture some memorable photos. Lunch will be provided. Following our visit, we will explore Horyu-ji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring one of the oldest wooden structures globally. This remarkable temple complex, which includes a seminary and monasteries, stands as Japans oldest Buddhist monument and continues to be a significant place of worship.Our day will conclude as we arrive in the bustling city of Osaka in the evening. Enjoy accommodation in this vibrant metropolis, renowned as Japans second-largest urban area. Later, we'll explore Dotonbori, a lively district celebrated for its energetic nightlife and vivid atmosphere.
Day 13 - Osaka - Himeji - Korakuen Garden - Okayama
Today we head to Himeji, famed for its impressive castlea magnificent example of Japanese fortification architecture. Admission is included, allowing us to explore its large complex, which stands as a striking symbol of Japan's feudal era. Post-visit, well enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, immersing ourselves in regional flavours.Our journey continues to Okayama, where we will explore Korakuen, one of Japan's most exquisite gardens. With its serene lakes, cascading waterfalls, and traditional teahouses, it offers a perfect blend of nature and artistry. Youll have the chance to cross a pedestrian bridge over the river to admire the exterior of Okayama Castle, a historical fortification rebuilt in 1966 after wartime destruction.Following this, you'll have free time to wander around Okayama, allowing you to absorb the atmosphere of this lively city, home to just over 700,000 residents. Please be advised that on certain dates, accommodation may be arranged in Fukuyama or Kurashiki, and the Kurashiki tour might be conducted this afternoon.
Day 14 - Okayama - Kurashiki - Itsukushima - Hiroshima
Today, we begin our adventure in Kurashiki, celebrated for its well-preserved historic centre. You'll have the opportunity to take a leisurely walk through its quaint streets, immersing yourself in the atmosphere of bygone days. Our journey then takes us to Hiroshima, a city indelibly marked by the atomic bomb in 1945. Here, we will visit the poignant Peace Memorial Park, the striking Atomic Bomb Dome, and the insightful Peace Memorial Museum to reflect on the profound history and resilience of this remarkable city.After soaking in these powerful experiences, we'll seek tranquillity with a ferry ride to the island where it's said "men and gods live together." We will explore the renowned Itsukushima Shrine, devoted to the protector of the seas, which is famously built partially over the water. You'll have time to wander around the shrine, explore the scenic town centre, and enjoy lunch at your leisure.Concluding our explorations, we'll head back to our hotel in Hiroshima, where dinner will be provided. Please note, the order of our visits in Hiroshima may vary slightly to ensure a seamless experience.
Day 15 - Hiroshima
Following breakfast, our journey concludes in Hiroshima, leaving you with a treasure trove of cherished memories from your travels.
