Day 1 - Beijing
Upon arriving in Beijing, well arrange a seamless transfer to your hotel to ensure a comfortable start to your journey in China. As evening approaches, we'll escort you to Wangfujing Street, a vibrant pedestrian thoroughfare renowned for its lively atmosphere, abundant shops, and an array of diverse dining options. This bustling avenue offers the perfect opportunity to familiarise yourself with the city's unique charm. We'll enjoy a delightful dinner together before returning to the hotel, setting the stage for the exciting adventures that await. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Beijing
Our day begins with a visit to one of the world's most iconic landmarks the Great Wall of China, specifically the Mutianyu section. This remarkable feat of ancient engineering stretches across stunning mountainous terrain and holds over two millennia of history. We'll ascend by cable car to one of the most picturesque parts, offering breathtaking views of this legendary edifice.As we make our way back to Beijing, we'll explore the lively 798 Art District. Once a military factory, this area now thrives as a contemporary art scene filled with galleries, studios, and creative spaces. Our next stop is the Temple of Heaven, an architectural marvel and UNESCO World Heritage site, where emperors historically prayed for good harvests.After a day full of exploration, we'll unwind with a relaxing foot massage followed by a Tai Chi class, allowing you to experience the balance and tranquillity of traditional Chinese culture. To wrap up our day, we'll indulge in a local culinary delight a lacquered duck dinner, sure to leave a lasting taste of Beijing.
Day 3 - Beijing
On day three, we delve into the rich tapestry of Beijing, starting with a comprehensive tour of the citys most celebrated landmarks. Our adventure begins at the imposing Forbidden City, the epicentre of Chinese imperial power for almost five centuries, where we uncover the legacy of 24 emperors. Following this, we move on to Jingshan Park, where from the top of Coal Hill (weather permitting), well enjoy some of the most spectacular views of the citys ancient architecture, with the Forbidden City laid out below us.Our exploration continues with a walk through the immense Tiananmen Square, a cornerstone of Chinese history, offering a direct view of the impressive Great National Theatre. In the afternoon, we visit the Summer Palacea former imperial retreat of the Qing Dynasty celebrated for its enchanting gardens and tranquil lakes. After lunch, which is included, we experience traditional Beijing life with a tricycle tour through the historic Hutong neighbourhoods. This journey provides a rare glimpse into the citys vibrant cultural heritage, with an exploration of local shops and a visit to a Siheyuan, a quintessential courtyard house emblematic of Beijings architectural charm.As a note, please be aware that due to heritage protection and safety regulations, access to the Forbidden City can sometimes be limited. If were unable to visit, well instead explore the Confucius Temple and the Lama Temple, both of which offer rich insights into Chinas history and religious traditions. Well end the day back at the hotel, where we settle in for the night.
Day 4 - Beijing - Nanjing
Following a relaxing breakfast, we will proceed to the train station to experience one of China's advanced high-speed trains. This remarkable journey, covering nearly 1,000 km in under four hours at speeds of up to 300 km/h, will deliver us to Nanjing a vibrant city with a rich tapestry of history and a bustling commercial life. Nanjing, home to eight million people, is often celebrated as one of Chinas most captivating cities.In Nanjing, we will explore Purple Mountain, where the majestic Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum stands as a tribute to the founding figure of modern China. The site provides insights into the country's revolutionary history and is a place of great respect. Additionally, we'll visit the picturesque Linggu Temple, a tranquil Buddhist sanctuary enveloped by lush greenery, offering a moment of serenity.After our guided activities, you'll have the opportunity to explore the city at your leisure a chance to delve into its welcoming streets, savour local delicacies, or simply enjoy the surroundings. Our day will conclude with an overnight stay in Nanjing, allowing you to soak up the ambiance of this enthralling metropolis.
Day 5 - Nanjing - Suzhou - Tongli - Shanghai
Today, we'll make our way to Suzhou, celebrated for its magnificent classical gardens, which hold UNESCO World Heritage status. Historically, Suzhou was at the forefront of silk production and has long been synonymous with beauty and grace. Our visit will include the Garden of the Humble Administrator, the largest and most renowned of these gardens, where winding paths, serene ponds, and lush greenery form a stunning example of traditional Chinese landscaping.Afterwards, you'll have some free time to wander along the charming Pingjiang Road, an enchanting historic lane fringed with canals, traditional teahouses, and artisan shops. Well gather for a delightful lunch before setting off in the afternoon to Tongli, a captivating water town distinguished by its narrow canals, ancient stone bridges, and traditional architecture that harks back to a bygone era. A relaxing boat ride through these peaceful waterways will allow us to fully appreciate the town's enduring allure.Finally, we'll journey to Shanghai, where we'll check in for the night.
Day 6 - Shanghai
Our exploration of Shanghai begins in the modern financial district of Pudong, known for its impressive skyline featuring the iconic Pearl Tower. Crossing the Huangpu River on a scenic ferry ride, we get to enjoy stunning views of both the city's historic and contemporary sides. We then stroll through the Old City to visit the tranquil Yuyuan Garden, an exquisite example of classical Chinese landscaping from the Ming Dynasty. You'll also experience a traditional tea ceremony, an integral part of China's cultural heritage.Next, we continue to Xintiandi, one of Shanghais trendiest areas, famed for its chic boutiques, lively cafs, and vibrant atmosphere. Lunch is included, offering a delectable taste of local cuisine. The afternoon takes us to Tianzifang, a characterful neighbourhood that surprises with its intricate alleys, unique craft shops, and modern art galleries. We conclude our day with a leisurely walk along The Bund, where colonial-era architecture stands as a testament to the citys historical ties with European trade.You'll have free time in the afternoon to explore further or unwind at your own pace. An optional boat trip is available if you wish to see Shanghai illuminated at night a truly unforgettable experience.
Day 7 - Shanghai - Luoyang
Today, we take an early morning transfer to Shanghais train station to board a high-speed train departing at 07:17 a.m. Our journey will cover 1,000 km in just over five hours, transporting us through picturesque countryside to reach Luoyang. Upon arrival, we'll enjoy an included lunch before embarking on our exploration of the extraordinary Longmen Buddhist Caves. This remarkable complex stretches for more than a kilometre, with over 100,000 Buddha statues and carvings intricately etched into the cliffs along the river. To fully appreciate the grandeur and scale of this archaeological marvel, well take a scenic boat ride along the river. Following our visit, we will transfer into the ancient city of Luoyang. Here, the historic city walls and the vibrant atmosphere of the illuminated streets invite you to immerse yourself in the local culture and enjoy its traditional charm.
Day 8 - Luoyang - Longmen - Sanmexia - Xian
In the early hours of the morning, we will explore the outskirts of Luoyang, beginning our day with a visit to the venerable White Horse Buddhist Monastery. This significant centre of Buddhist scholarship has long been a gathering place for thinkers and practitioners from around the globe. Our journey will then take us to Sanmenxia, a city steeped in history. Here, we'll enjoy the impressive view of the mighty Yellow River and visit the Baolun Temple, famed for its towering pagoda. Our exploration continues at the acclaimed Guo Museum, one of Chinas finest, where we will view the ancient funeral carriages from the former State of Guo, offering a fascinating insight into the region's storied past. Lunch will be provided along the way. As we travel eastward, we'll pass by the sacred Mount Hua, noted for its dramatic peaks and spiritual significance. By late afternoon, we will reach Xian, where we will conclude our day's journey.
Day 9 - Xian
Our day in Xianan iconic city marking the start of the ancient Silk Roadpromises exploration and discovery. Our morning begins with a visit to the awe-inspiring Terracotta Army. These life-sized clay soldiers, hidden beneath the earth for centuries, vigilantly guard the tomb of China's inaugural emperor. After this remarkable site, we will return to Xian to see the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, an elegant Buddhist edifice that has stood for over a thousand years. The tour continues through Xian's historic walled city, where we'll wander into the vibrant Muslim Quarter. Here, we will visit the Great Mosque, a unique testament to the cultural and religious mosaic that has shaped China over the centuries. Our itinerary also grants us entry to the Drum Tower, where we will be treated to a brief performance of traditional Chinese music, played on ancient instruments. The afternoon is yours to explore freely, soaking in the atmosphere and charm of this fascinating city.
Day 10 - Xian - Chengdu
Today, we depart Xian aboard a state-of-the-art high-speed train, swiftly covering the 700 km journey to Chengdu in just over three hours. Upon arrival, our first stop is the renowned Panda Bear Research and Breeding Centre, a vital sanctuary that is home to 120 giant pandas and 76 red pandas, offering a unique opportunity to observe these delightful creatures in a naturalistic setting. Lunch will be provided.In the afternoon, we'll leisurely explore People's Park, a vibrant urban retreat where local residents engage in Tai Chi by the picturesque lake and unwind in traditional tea houses. Enjoy the opportunity to immerse yourself in local life and take in the tranquil atmosphere of this charming green space.
Day 11 - Chengdu
Today, we embark on a full-day tour to discover the enchanting landscapes and rich heritage of Sichuan Province. Our first stop is Dujiangyan, where we will marvel at the ancient irrigation systema UNESCO World Heritage Site that has been ingeniously operating for over 2,000 years. Next, we visit Qingcheng Shan, revered as a Taoist holy mountain, where we will wander along its forested paths, encountering mystical caves, traditional pavilions, and centuries-old wooden temples along the way. A delightful lunch is included during our exploration of this spiritual sanctuary. Our journey then takes us to the ancient city of Jiezi, where you'll stroll through its historic alleys, steeped in over a thousand years of history. After a day filled with cultural and natural wonders, we return to Chengdu.
Day 12 - Chengdu
As our journey in Chengdu concludes, enjoy a leisurely breakfast recalling the unforgettable experiences from our adventure. We'll part ways today, but the diverse landscapes and rich cultural encounters will surely leave you with wonderful memories to cherish.
